BUILDING A MALL CITY

This is a new design I and my friends have thought about for the past few years. The igbos are a people with comparative advantage in some sectors in the Nigerian economy. With proper planning we can get a headquarter where all our strength can be seen from afar.

Onitsha has been the biggest market in West Africa since 60's. With recent developments in science and technology and the increase in market size over the years, it has become imperative to redesign our market to be the next big thing like it was in the 60s but with a more modernized model. This model will:

1. increase the marketability of the products within its area,
2, improve the image of locally manufactured products.
3. Increase market size.
4. Improve tourism
5. Attract FDI within the region
6. Create businesses for programmers and ICT experts
7. Increase government revenue
8, make individuals richer and
9, create a better image for the igbo people.

It was planned to be in Onitsha based on the fact that
1. Onitsha is the commercial capital of the east.
2. It's a border town in Anambra state.
3. It relates well with our anioma brothers.
4. It is easily assessable by anyone coming from the neighboring state or region.
5. It has a history of business.

The design is to build big malls in a designated expanse of land. The malls are not going to be one or two but we are talking about 50malls. I know some of you must be crying about space but I assure you, space will be utilized and managed well. Each mall will have close to 500 shops each and they will offer products of similar kinds. For example, we can have a mall of electronics. This mall will house computers, phones, TV, decoders, etc. This will enable us to get data about customers buying from the malls and their interests. It will be easier for us to know the products that are having falling patronage per time and find ways to solve them.

The mall city will be designed to cater for every need. You can get everything in this mall city. If you say you want to buy anything and it's not sold anywhere in Nigeria, Onitsha Mall City will have it. It will designed that online retail stores will use these shops as their suppliers. It will house a sound transport system that will transport goods bought to the most convenient spot the customer will need it.

This mall city will be designed to open for 18hours in 24. This will help in night trading because the lighting system will be the best. There will be no night. Anytime you come to mall city, you have a customer and a buyer at all times.

There will be sound movement direction system that will make customers not lose their way in the city. The roads will be well tarred.

Will continue later.
I totally agree with you that Onitsha main market and indeed most of those mono commodity markets within Onitsha and Idemmili are long overdue for upgrade to modern standards. There is every need to alter and rebuild these markets from ground up and install independent power, better sewage and recreating the Main Market Brand. I was at Aspanda Lagos in 2006 or so and i was a bit impressed at the modest standard they implemented there. I was informed we Igbos in Lagos built that market from the scratch. Also note that for Ochanja market to become a 24 hours destination, lifestyle and perspectives of Onitsha residents must change with it. Hong Kong,Istanbul,London,Joburg and Texas to mention but a few are all 24 hours cities. Security has to be top notch and nightlife recreated in addition to ensuring easy access and total illumination of the entire streets.I was in Awada in 2007 to see my friend. To my shock,by 8pm everyone was already indoors or tucked away at isi ewu joints only to sneak in quietly. The potentials of Onitsha is yet to be scratched. The sheer human density in that city is mind-boggling relative to its size. Now,that is also a goldmine for market promoters and other providers of improved lifestyle and services.Like Onitsha, like Aba,like Umuahia, like Awka,Asaba,Enugu and Nnewi We have the seed of our greatness within our hands!

Excellent. Then many people will be employed. Is this whites are succeeding?

Whites have the advantage of constant electricity in their countries. The solutions that I proposed will be very unique to Nigeria but can be scalable.

Using renewable (free) energy from the sun to power elevators in tall buildings. It can be done. If I had the money, I will do it.

Innoson needs to act fast or the Nigerian system will swallow his business. We are trying as much as possible to save many billionaires from going bankrupt due to change in policies and politics. If these guys invests in these sectors we are sharing here, they will be rest assured that come rain, come sun, they are highly protected from penury.

Your submission is totally true. The east doesn't have a working night life. A working night life can change the fortune of the east forever. We tend to close by 6pm and you see everyone running home as if someone is chasing them. Kano alone has a very vibrant night business life for retailers but we close our shops at 6pm.
I know in building this kind of business environment will need other sectors to make it stay afloat. We will need to redesign our banking system to enable us to do business easily in the night without cash. This will make more confident in going about businesses in the night.

We can take a big responsibility by lighting up the whole of Onitsha so that it will not experience darkness even at night. At least it will still fend off criminal activities in the area.

This market is meant to feed over 80million Nigerians who might find it difficult to go to Lagos. We need to create a better alternative to Lagos.

Some organizations are behind the power most skyscrapers on the island are using. They make so much money from powering these structures because they are used for business and as you know most businesses depend on power for effective functioning.

Some people can invest in power production in powering CBDs while some people can build CBDs. It's a chain of business that will make everyone gain at the end.

Electrical power is driving economies. It is making economies with no future look more promising than those with fossils.

Our politicians are busy trying to be more politically correct than the people in the corridors of power. An additional power station in the region can push development to another level but we seem.not to be getting it right.

You don't even need to go far. I am a facilities management consultant. Maintaining those sky scrapers and improving their capacity, market feasibility and aesthetics is my forte. For every of such building (or clusters) in advanced societies you see, there is a prevailing service level agreement which takes the burden away from the owners and shifts it to a competent facilities management company/consultant. Every single aspect of maintenance (cleaning, security(both cyber and civil),ventilation, power systems and electrical(powering the lifts inclusive. In some cases,a single company manages and maintains the lifts.I know of OTIS in Nigeria),aesthetics and horticulture, leasing and marketing are either handled by the parent company or leased out to tested providers. This is a complex chain of services whose multiplier effect is churning out more professionals, technicians and technocrats. And a money spinner too! The world is moving towards this direction and am glad we are talking already.

We don't have leaders. We have elected warrant chiefs.

I was hoping that okija power plant should have been completed by now and geometric power plant should have been running but the Nigerian incompetence and paralyzing factors have stalled those projects.

To my governors it is another white elephant project without making money. But to those people who have sense, we are looking at one of the biggest investment our region hasn't looked into.

We want foreign investors when our local investors can come with a good management team to manage this sector. Housing is not a dead project but a project that can make thousands of people millionaires in just a year. A good housing project will open other areas for business and market.

We need to key into these areas now.

I recall UNN pioneered alternative energy reseach in Nigerian universities. I recall the Energy Research Centre was located beside faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Hybrid and cheaper brands of solar panels were developed in that centre to encourage solar power utilization. I do not know how far that centre has gone. I can bet they were starved of funds and grants or bureacracy/corruption killed it off. I may be wrong. My point is,with the capital intensive nature of nuclear power, the fluctuations and instability of Hydro Power Stations, with the abundant supply of sun, solar power should be the next revolution in Igboland. From recent records, only 9% of power generated in Nigeria is allocated to the South East! This can hardly sustain street lights talk more domestic and industrial uses. Solar is the way to go. Pictures below are solar farms in China. This will not only generate the much needed power,it will also expand and sustain new curriculum in Electrical Systems and Engineering that will remain relevant for another century and beyond. Ndewo nu!

Okija would have been used to power Onitsha and it's environs but we keep disgracing ourselves in public. We cannot say federal government, this is what we need and disturb their lives to get it. This is due to the fact that igboland do not have an economic direction or plan. We keep moving in circles.

Enugu will be the house of solar energy in the eastern region because of its elevation and landmass. I was opportune to design a power consumption system that will utilize 10KW solar system. It was a sweet project because it exposed me to the numerous opportunities solar power can provide for our people.

The funniest part is that the professor is an igbo man from Anambra state. Then I was in the university of Benin. He called me and told me that this project is a money spinner, if I like I should take it serious and if I like I should play with it. I learned a lot of things from him and I really wish i learnt more after the project.

Solar energy is a big deal and if we are not careful, we will lose it to other competitors with money.

Should we build our own rail system and forget about the federal government or will stick to the federal government plan but push for its implementation.

The rail system passes through two cities in each state in igboland except Ebonyi and Enugu.

What are your opinions about this?

Keep studying the masterplan, can we draw out the best economic route for our products which will give us high returns. So that we can design our business routes to pass through this system.

Which rail route shows more promise than the rest?

All these are my opinions based on facts and deductions. First, note that the same backward political rationale that has always informed establishing infrastructure in areas of chauvinistic rather than economic considerations are at play in this master-plan. The same atavistic drives that saw Yola Airport,Kaduna Airport and even desert Kano Airports all given international status and receive better allocations ahead of Enugu,Owerri and PH Airports is at play here also. For instance, there are many deadwood towns that has no need nor economic clout to be there yet were included, especially in the north. Now,consider Talata Mafara,an arid and deserted hamlet like Wudil in Kano State,Daura,Dikwa and the rest. Why do we need to spend our resources to link a rail line with N'djamena in Chad? Cotonu and Lome? Mardi in Niger Republic? Is this not supposed to be a national master-plan or is it a sub-regional intervention? Check it,there will be rail line direct from Enugu to Idah but no stop-over in Nsukka! There will be a direct link to Abakaliki but no diversion to an ancient enclave like Afikpo. No diversion to Ibaka, which in view of the proposed seaport needs a direct rail like to major cities in the south. Above all,no rail link connected to Asaba and the entire Anioma even with its massive economic potentials. The only take away from this is that at least, they are providing a rail line base for the region. Should we attain self rule or autonomy, which am sure will come, new lines and links which will cost less will be added to the existing one. Nigeria as we know it is at its terminal stages. The requim is already humming at the background. We better get set for the worst.

Publicly traded company of Igbo origin in a tribalistic country like Nigeria is not always a good idea.

What we need is a privately held companies where stocks are held privately and open to those who want to see the company succeed.

"A privately held company, private company, or close corporation is a business company owned either by non-governmental organizations or by a relatively small number of shareholders or company members which does not offer or trade its company stock (shares) to the general public on the stock market exchanges, but rather the company's stock is offered, owned and traded or exchanged privately."

Like where shareholding is own to Igbos only

Spot on! B

But the question i tend to ask myself is where the fuc/k were the Igbo politicians and gov't appointees (either from PDP or APC) when the useless rail plan was being drawn up? You see what i mean when i say that besides the wickedness of outsiders, that our useless elite are also a big part our our problem.

I remember Ken Nnamani saying why he moved to APC was so Ndigbo can have a voice when decisions are being made at the centre or at APC. Total bunkum!!! This is always the excuse these lazy, greedy, self-centred politicians give when they want to gallivant from one party to another just to protect their corrupt behind or to be in with a chance of stealing more. What did Ndigbo gain when these muthafuckers were in PDP as chairmen of the party, Senate President, House of Reps Speaker, etc? This useless rail plan was drawn up with links to Daura, Niger and other places that means fuc/k all to someone like me, while in turn ignoring prominent cities and towns in Alaigbo like Nsukka, Afikpo and Nnewi, and someone wants me to join them and shout 'one Nigeria'? Notice the northern university town of Zaria was included while they totally forgot Nsukka...this is Zaria that has gotten more than its fair share of federal projects and institutions, while Nsukka is left with just the university.

This is why i'm finally convinced that the only way Ndigbo and Alaigbo can reach our full potential and be able to compete with the likes of Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong, and even little Rwanda...the only way this is possible is by a full and comprehensive restructuring of the polity so everyone can answer their papa name and control their own resources. And i don't mean the watery suggestions of restructuring being bandied about now that would still give a large amount of control to the envious and wicked bastards who since the late 60s have been plotting how to marginalise us and steal our resources and destiny to their own regions and pockets...i don't mean that type of restructuring. The national rail master plan should not stop the region from building it's own linked to the national network.

Railways are like roads. Some federal or national roads take you to Lagos etc. But state roads make sure communities in the state are connected. That is what the regional rail network will do. Besides, you cannot dictate the direction and flow of trains on the national network, but you can do so on the regional train network. Besides the national tracks are often for propaganda and political deceit. They may never be built as it is on paper. It will be based on political patronage . Build your own house don't depend on getting allocated federal housing, else you will spend your life waiting in vain. That is exactly what this do called national rail plan will do to the naive

It's either proper restructuring or the only other alternative is for us all to go our separate ways! Enough of this nonsense!
Sometimes I even pity our so called leaders. Massive odds are staked against them in Nigeria. From that subconscious persecution projected at every Igbo man to the suspicion borne of false narratives spewed over the years to diminish Igbo trajectory in politics and national affairs. This unfortunate reality leaves them with a psychology of defeat and an indelible scar of grief. This same condition is the basis of identity crises we all grapple with in Ikwerre,Ika+Ukwuani and upland Igbo groups. It is also the cause of the shameful gradual erosion of identity and cultural death among our people which manifests in decline of Igbo language among diasporeans all in unconscious alignment with a mental state of defeat and timidity. To get ourselvs back on track, there is the need to de-construct and de-clutter these demonic mental strongholds instilled into our people for close to half a century. I do not blame our fathers so much. They literally battled with demons to breathe. It takes a special race like Igbos to overcome the subservient and near death conditions they were subjected to,just to breathe, live and scrape a living. Times have since changed. We are the generation to change the narrative. Igbos cannot reclaim their lost glory by playing safe. Either we demolish the odds or "die trying". It took the assassination of Nnamdi Kanu for most people to acknowledge he has paid the supreme price. Either we all turn radicals and face the devil or this slavery is just starting.

Chai! This thread has already be threading and I'm not aware. Thanks to you Oga Spyder880 for the wonderful pictures you took from Abakaliki and Uburu - Ohaozara axis, truly Dave Umahi is working.

My problems and fears with all this wonderful contributions and plans are Nigerian government who will stop at nothing to ensure the states quo remain.

They can do everything anything to ensure that no meaningful plan or dreams ever comes to reality because by allowing us develop to such an extent will automatically keep our teaming youth busy and the influx to other regions will also be in check.
The hatred is mutual. IPOB is a case study.

I have always said it that paper analysis will not help us in developing nigeria but aggressive sacrifice must be made inorder to achieve a substainable goal.

I have refused to take part in discuss because i know we are going to hit the rock soon with the usual troll coming to feed as usual.

I have been meeting with some stakeholders on how we can set a massive trend that is capable of revolutionizing the nigeria space.
The proposal is to estabilish the first community or fan owned football club in nigeria.i am talking with some people about the idea which requries 10,000 football ethnuaist to sign in.

We are trying to use awka or onitsha has a case study since the both town or city has the case maybe has no professional club or stadium. That why i have refused to comment on the governors performance because i abhor mediocrity.

Can you send me your email for the proposal or better still ,contact at secarto7@gmail.com

Whites have the advantage of constant electricity in their countries. The solutions that I proposed will be very unique to Nigeria but can be scalable.

Using renewable (free) energy from the sun to power elevators in tall buildings. It can be done. If I had the money, I will do it.

Dude,
Elevator manufacturers will refuse to supply and install the product ifvthey knew you have intention to use solar power to move the cars up and down the heights.

There are things you power solar with, elevator is not one of them.

God forbid power fail and you want take solar power operate the machine. You and the elevator manufacturers go end up in lawsuits for trapping people and causing them to suffocate to death.
