Nigerian tech space has been growing rapidly for a while and with it came the tech YouTubers with niches from start up tech to consumer tech. Eric Okafor who has over 2 million views on his channel is the first Nigerian tech youtube to become a bronze member after hitting the 5 figure subscription mark. See Link https://www.youtube.com/EricOkafor

Now what does 10K+ subscribers mean for a YouTuber? YouTube creators with at least 10,000 subscribers can always get help when they need it as well as access to produce in any YouTube space all over the globe.

All of these equate to best practices, better SEO, more monetisation revenue and increase in brand value.

Many Nigerian YouTube channels have crossed that mark years ago. And truth is, it doesn't necessarily equate to more money. Still depends on how much views his videos are getting.

I had over 13k subscribers on YouTube before I lost my channel because I broke just one rule. You can lose your channel on YouTube for the flimsiest of reason. Hundreds of channels get terminated daily.

Abuse of web form. The mistake was that I deleted a video while a case had not been settled.

Old Nollywood classics and entertainment videos. I also create slideshows.

I accept responsibility for the error. But YouTube hardly gives second chances.

I was already clocking over $1k monthly. It was very painful but I had to let it go after series of appeals were rejected embarassed embarassed

Case as in? Was it based on copyrights infringements with the Nollywood classics and entertainment videos that you posted on your YouTube channel?

Yes. That's a common issue when you deal on anything entertainment online or offline. You just learn how to navigate the waters and settle claimants.

I am really sorry about the setback you experienced with your YouTube channel. Do you have plans to start up a new one with another Niche?

Actually I have another channel I run just for fun. I don't really give it serious attention. Its not monetised.

The fact is that they're trying to eliminate as much channels as possible to decongest the platform. When I started my first channel, monetisation was very easy to activate. You just link your AdSense account and switch on monetisation. But now, you need to meet some very high requirements before it will be activated on your channel. And unless your content is entirely yours, you may not be approved at all. If your channel was previously monetised and you break a rule, you're gone for good.

Thats true with regards to the new strictly enforced rules in place. But pls do try and take your new channel seriously, i have a huge feeling that it will be better than the old one.

Sorry you lost your channel. You cannot lose your channel when your content is original i.e created by you. Even if you use copyrighted music, YouTube sends you a mail that you have done nothing wrong but some of your earnings are going to copyright owner. Rules are pretty simple on taking video copyrighted content and slapping on your channel. Don't do it.

Again, the monetisation policy is not that serious. Should people be making money from other people's sweat to begin with?

That's how iroko tv started. The advantage he had then was rules were a tad lax, and copyright owners didn't know any better. But I agree, nobody should profit off of other people's sweat illegally.

Someone just said his channel was blocked for the kind of content you're pushing on your channel. There's no point growing it when it's stolen property.
