True but no matter how good they are, they're still humans. They're bound to make mistakes but Elizabeth and Philip don't. Each time they go under, they always complete the mission. I mean it could never be that easy.

Into The West

This compelling show stirred up in me mixed emotions I can't quite put into words - an amalgam of anger, sadness, empathy, joy, etc. Speilberg does a great job of depicting the journey west as something both exciting and extremely dangerous. The story is told on two ways - the white man's point-of-view and the native indians POV - but without being preachy or heavy handed. There were good and bad sides to both cultures. Then, I love the use of the native language as it added to the realism (it would have been ridiculous if the natives spoke fluent).

The format of this show is interesting. It has 6 part, each part has a runtime of over 2 hours, so basically, each part can pass for a movie in itself. In other words, it's produced like a movie but with 6 consecutive parts all hinging on each other for consistency. A miniseries.

Dude! Elizabeth & Philip aren't infallible. They make mistakes, just like everyone else. One of their mistakes nearly precipitated their cover getting blown in the 2nd season. Elizabeth actually engaged the new guy, Agent Aderholt in hand-to-hand combat. She won because of her superior fighting skills, but the FBI got a composite sketch of the couple out of it. Suffice to say, the FBI knew they exist, but don't know who they were or where they live.

They don't always complete their mission. Occasionally, Philip, usually the point guy, have to rely on his well horned instinct to deviate from a mission because things didn't look right, ditto Elizabeth.

In season 5, their cover was nearly blown when another sleeper agent (they were working with) is caught by the FBI. The poor guy whilst dying from a self-inflicted weaponize lassa fever virus, unknowingly blabbered to the FBI that a couple just like him are still very much active, with two kids, and more integrated than he ever was. Elizabeth even seriously contemplated fleeing to Russia with her family at the climax of the whole saga. Fortunately, nothing came of it, and they stayed and continue with their fake American lives.

Point being, It's never easy for anyone, especially Philip, whom is less patriotic than Elizabeth. There was a time he even tried convincing Elizabeth to just drop the whole spy thing, disappear and become Americans for real. And It wasn't his idea to let in their first born on their secret spy life, and still resent that decision to this day. Elizabeth and Philip are always living in constant paranoia, and every time they leave for a mission, there is always the possibility it might be their last, and they know this. They switched their handler to the present one, because they didn't trust her to keep them safe, that's the extent of their paranoia, and it's perfectly understandable. Spy business is no joke.

I haven't started watching the current season yet, but it's supposed to be the climax. It's the make or break season.
