The death of the Saturday afternoon raid by suspected bandits at Gwaska in Birnin-Gwair Local Government Area of Kaduna State has risen from 27 to 45 on Sunday. The Birnin-Gwari Vanguards for Security and Good Governance said no fewer than 45 bodies were recovered by vigilantes and volunteers with the assistance of soldiers on Sunday afternoon.

The bandits pursued residents who mobilised to defend the village after overpowering them,” said a vigilante who asked not to be named for fear of reprisals.

“The dead included children abandoned by their parents during the attack.“The attackers were obviously armed bandits from neighbouring Zamfara state who have been terrorising Birnin Gwari area…,” he added.

The vigilante said the bandits struck Gwaska village in Kaduna state at about 2:30pm (1330 GMT) Saturday and stayed for three hours before retreating to their base in the forest in Zamfara.“

They burnt down many homes,” he said.A spokesman for the Kaduna state police, Mukhtar Aliyu, confirmed the attack by “armed bandits” but said they were unable to give further details.

Meanwhile, Birnin Gwari community in Birnin Gwari Local Government of Kaduna State, have Sunday, blocked Lagos-Kaduna road to protest the incessant killings by bandits across villages in the LGA.

Listened to this on BBC Africa and I couldn't help but smh. BBC put the figure at 51...,.....Yet CoAS is busy arresting vigilante after he has failed in his duty to protect helpless citizens.
Sometimes we deserve what we get. By the time we come to terms that we made a mistake at the polls in 2015 ( if ever we be so humble to admit it), Christians would have been chased out from southern KD and a better part of rural Benue and Taraba.
Its more irritating that our lame duck VP claims to be a Pastor but is comfy to enjoy the trappings of power while watching his brethren slaughtered.

Yes, it's a deliberate action on the part of the security forces to steer clear of the area to allow the bandits have a field day. That's why everybody must resort to self defence especially in the regions hit by herdsmen . Before, they're boko haram later the same govt said they're foreigners and later turned herdsmen and now, they don't call them herdsmen anymore but armed bandits. The fed government isn't telling Nigerians the truth and this is juts the sign of more crises coming should buhari win next year. We don't need old cargoes and ethnic biased people to govern us anymore. It's high time Nigerian youths who constitute the largest percentage of our population took their destiny in their hands. With your votes, you can make a difference. Many of the politicians , including buhari himself ruled this country in their 30s and 40s. Amazingly, it's still same people in the system.
