Wow, i served in Biu 2009. My PPA was GSSSS, Biu. I had a wonderful time there, especially with the soldiers wives as I was teaching them English for a token. I was also taking school children after school lessons though language was a barrier as most of them don't understand English. The women would cook before I come and insist I eat before leaving every time I went to the barracks.
I would buy clothes from the main market and resell in the barracks. @Op, you are very correct about banks being filled every month end.
The NCCF family house where i stayed was a stone throw to the market and we would buy meat and foodstuffs at cheap prices.
The weather in Biu is similar to Jos, very cold especially at night.

It was a good one, Boko Haram was yet to become a menace like what we have now. Peaceful, cool weather and friendly people generally.

2009 till now is a long time ago, somewhat a decade! Well, it is nice my article caught your glimpse. You could still look up my older topics for more interesting threads.

I was in Biu some 8 years ago to hustle, I met a very nice Bikeman, Baba Ali, who drove me around. He helped me explain to the indigenes in their dialect whenever they questioned the GIS contract work I was doing then. so bad I've lost his Nbr now though. Nice experience.
