There are ways to track a phone without sim card.

Using the IMEI number of a phone, you can know the current sim that is being used in the phone. So unless there is no sim in the phone, that's when it will be tracked. Lots of criminals are being caught with this everyday because they tink once they throw away the sim in the phone, that's all. Unfortunately for criminals, each time you make a phone call, the IMEI number is transmitted as part of the call information and that's how phone thieves are tracked.

In saner climes Kyari would've been given a blank cheque to reform the curved intelligence unit including the not so secretive secret police (DSS).

Am I the only one who thinks the usefulness of SARS is outlived? They should be drafted to control traffic cuz DCP Abba have demonstrated that the pen(intelligence) is mightier than the sword(AK47)

Given his track record in successfully sending notorious criminal gangs to justice, I think it's time he gets preemptive. Starts preventing the crime from taking place. That's the whole essence of the intelligence unit.

Nice man.

He asked you to snap the back of the phone that was already stolen and send to his WhatsApp number? Apart from that, is there any details at the back if phones that we don not know about? Thought it's the imei number and phone number that is used in tracking a phone not back cover?

There are many smart cops in Nigeria but the corrupt ones overshadow them. If NPF desires to solve a crime, they will solve it effortlessly but corruption and personal interests kill them.

Imagine a police asking a victim for money for biro and paper before he (victim) can write a report. A Police unit asking for money before your complaints can be attended to. Nigerians will rather take the laws into their hands than go through the inhumane process of reporting a crime to the Police. It's a sad tale that needs reprogramming from the hierarchy

Solstar:
Serial Number + OS tracking + Phone RF/Mast Triangulation to narrow in the search, then drive to the location to use google map + GPRS to location 4 real time tracking of the phone/device.

Your phone is actually a tracking device. No savvy criminal will use a phone with a popular OS.

It begins and ends with OS and Sim tracking.

So how come more stolen phones are not being recovered daily, if this is all it takes to track down phone thieves? shocked Even the telcos hardly ever want to help, when it comes to tracking calls or releasing call details of phone lines used by criminals. sad Abba Kyari's efforts just goes to show that crime can be curbed in this country, or reduced to a minimum, if only all police officers were willing to use their brains, and also carry out their duties to the best of their ability. God bless Kyari! cool

How many people bother to report their stolen phones to the police or go through the process of getting a court order in order to access the needed information to track the phone? Most people are not even aware that stolen phones can be recovered. You would not believe the number of people who are scammed and don't even bother to go through the process of getting the police to track the destination of the money taking from them. Something that has become easier due to BVN. But most people would just leave it to God.

Oga, the man was talking about the 'pack' of the phone (i.e. the pack/box which the phone came in), and not the 'back' of the phone. The phone pack, usually has the serial number of the phone inscribed on it.

Where did you read "back" of the phone? It's the pack of the phone. The IMEI number is written there on some phone models.

I agree that people hardly ever report the loss of their phones to the police, as most times very little or nothing gets done, even when they do so. sad But people usually report scams to the police however, and it takes forever for them to do anything about it. angry From uncooperative bank staff, to nonchalant telcos to lackadaisical police officers, it takes several months before anything gets done, and some people just end up getting frustrated and dropping the case.

My neighbour's car was stolen in February last year, and reported to the police the same day it went missing. sad You would not believe that till today, there has been no lead, no follow up and no headway in the case, on the part of the police. The picture of the driver who stole it, along with a copy of his driver's license, phone lines etc was provided. Instead, the police officers were more interested in mobilisation money which was to be paid. Even after collecting it, nothing was done. It is so sad. undecided

Net work agencies are now cooperating o, they are the only ones that can allow you pass Through their network before the persons can be traced. But for imei or serial number, the phone mast or so called antenna must be active before such phone can be traced ,once the person understands the engineering behind what I am saying and dis....the phone...... Then until thy kingdom come such phone would never be even if it is in the police station sef.

You need a visit to computer village. All you need to track your phone is the phone's IMEI.. not the sim

Good job done if true. I like that it was reported by a 3rd party and not by Kyari himself.

BUT this Abba Kyari aka Nigerian Jack Bauer grin craves attention too much, that's what i don't like about him

It is done to inspire good and intelligent minds to join the police force. At first we only read about him in the papers when he was in Lagos. And most people believed the name was an undercover name.

The technology to track devices are not sold in the open market, though the client system are sold but the server is usually manned by some corporate companies or Sovereign States. So you are given access to the intel. Abba Kyari is not just a Nigerian Police Officer, he is a smart one, who is assigned to access the server in the Nigerian Police Department. He is collaborating with other sister organisations abroad. So your penny penny cases do not get attention except he is a friend.

ignorance is a disease!!

A guy stole a phone in a super market, formatted the phone, threw away the SIM card...

Matter was reported to a police in Abuja, all he ask for was the serial number of the stolen phone.

in exactly 5 days... the dude and his girlfriend was arrested!!

so if u don't know how technology works... STFU!!
