The biggest scammers in the world history, has always been Russia. The first step in solving trust issue in Nigeria,
is for the country to have a comprehensive and uncompromising database the way is done is developed country.
With that you know who is who. There are several foreigners freely obtaining Nigerian international passport and claiming to be Nigerians. Such can't happen in developed countries. And the leaders are not helping issues, no mentorship centres, no leadership centres to groom the you ones. Ideas are not encouraged rather colossal immoral attitudes pays. Only in Nigeria, a politician will be richer than a business man. What a country.

I was discussing with a Pakistani importer based in the middle East for a business transactions 2 years ago, after we concluded every details of the transaction before the items will be shipped to lagos, he backed out at the last minute, he said and I quote, my lawyer in Islamabad said you want to do business with a Nigerian, you will be scammed and your fingers will be burnt, I tried to explain to him that you carry dual nationality even though you are originally born in Nigeria, he said whether dual nationality or not, Nigerians are scammers... End of quote, that put a nail on the textile transactions we were supposed to do together

The media and foreign embassies are also not helping the matter, they provide consular advices to their citizens on the dangers and pitfalls in doing business in Nigeria, CNN, BBC and ALJAZEERA have ran several documentaries on the dangers of engaging in business in Nigeria, this has further put a dent on the already battered image of the country, type doing business in / with Nigerians and see what my friend called Google will give you

The world reading this is a great help, maybe pressure from outside can force the hands of our governments to wake up and do things right, lots of square pegs in round holes, lots of incompetence, lots of avoidable mistakes, lots of same mistakes repeated over and over again to the extent that you start thinking its deliberate. We cannot continue like this.

And for some of you who have seen better, some of you who have experienced a semblance of good governance in foreign countries, how do you manage to lower all your standards, stoop lower to accommodate this sleaze? How do you feel when you see policemen posted to checkpoints for the sole purpose of fleecing motorists and beating anyone who objects into submission? How do you feel paying hefty bribes to free your relatives from cell for the offence of walking around in their own neighbourhoods? How do you feel when patients die just because there is no equipment in hospitals to save them after billions has been budgeted and embezzled, or because the driver of the ambulance drove away to do kabu kabu with the only vehicle for ER and so the patient died on top of a motorcycle after a spinal injury.

In all, nobody will be punished, nobody has been jailed yet for budget padding, nobody will ever be jailed for including thousands of ghost workers into most payrolls. And the whole cycle will repeat itself again tomorrow. How can I keep quiet?

Quite appalling.this is the life of a typical Nigerian just imagine,GREED AND CORRUPTION has really eaten into this "stupid" artisans medulla .when spyder88 was dissecting the Nigerian society it's as if he was hit patriotic, we need to have a paradigm shift as a people,nation by purging ourselves of these vices .

What a disappointment. I wish I am the one he sent this quote to ,he will explain where he got 2000square metre plus from a land up that is about 700 square metres

Interesting opinion, l agree with your position especially on the need to have an effective data base, linking BVN, drivers license, voters card, national ID with the International passport will be highly recommended if those are the helm of affairs will be ready to do the right thing

They wouldn't allow because of the ghost companies they award contract in order to loot money.

I was little late to respond to all your points, sorry no time now. I will surly respond with details of Nigeria society problems not until every one in that country wake to realize power belongs to them. The Nigerian politicians know well how to manipulate the voters. Nigeria major problem is upholding rules of law is what’s keeps things together here. Them busy later

Which is more expensive btw stamped concrete & interlock tiles?

Most of these artisans don't take measurements, they most use eye guage & judge with past experience, but they just come with tape. Same apply to tilers for room, many dont measure.

My fear abt this split nation of a thing is that, is there any part of the nation exempted from corruption currently? Aren't the same set of corrupt governors still be the ones to rule? Most state government are even more corrupt than presidency. Buhari & traditional leaders was at one time appealing to state governors to pay pensioners...

I beg to differ on your position, as a professional you must be seing to be above board in your dealings based on the ethics of your profession
How can an artisan come to a site to give estimates without using his tape to do the physical measurement to ascertain the dimensions of the clients need .that to me is a red flag, you don't just estimate by just looking at the plot it's wrong ,that artisan is a thief and that the way most of them behave to scam naive people of thier hard earned cash

It would be a smaller stage to mange devoid of tribal connotation or sentiments. The present system would not stand in that instance.

Okay ,the difference in results between the physical and the guesstimates is excess gains they make from the job.this is what Pisses me off most times I engage people to do anything for me, once I observe this trend I immediately discontinue further engagement with the person,had a similar example with somebody between a space of two months price shifted from N400,0000.00 to N1,100,000.00 this was a service that price can be verified from different service-providers.we are truly our own problems-"GREED AND CORRUPTION"

There will always be variables. Getting an under quote is the worst to happen. As far as measurements go, as long as you agree on the price/sqm one can always measure finished areas of job done and pay the required sum.

Even if we give him the benefit of doubt and go with your assumption, I think it casts a big doubt in his competence and professionalism if he can not even measure correctly (a core part of his business)! And the fact that when he did the estimate, it came to N8+ million, it did not occur to him that something must be wrong somewhere! Even if I was building a mansion in Banana Island, I wonder whether it will cost me N8+ million for ordinary stamp concrete of a plot (or less) of land

How you came to meet the fellow we don't know but I'm sure you must have seen his handiwork most especially if he's doing it directly and not to sublet before you requested for a quote. It's always something you can discuss with him as you're the only one with the machete to decide.

I don't need to show him the plan. He went to the site to physically measure it! And the truth is that I do not intend to use him any more (even if he came back with a correct estimate based on correct measurement). He's already failed on first impression, which is very important.

Physically on site is even better than layout becos we ammend things on site sometimes after the plan is drawn.
