HiddenShadow: True, there is. And also true is the fact that I've not heard of any riot that was started by Igbos in all those places I've been. But the main topic at the beginning was about how Igbos view Hausas and I stand by my earlier submission that we have tribal bias in both tribes. So we shouldn't just label and judge people by their tribe or religion but by their deeds. |

Reelectbuhari: Now let me educate you a little. Not everyone in the north is Hausa or Fulani. It's like me assuming that everyone in southern Nigeria is Igbo or Yoruba. How does that sound? We have hundreds of tribes in northern Nigeria that are not Hausa and have there own unique culture and tradition. So no, I'm not Hausa or Fulani. But even if I was, then I'll still be proud of my heritage. Everyone should be proud of there origins. And again, using the wprd 'murderous' for whole group of people is so, so wrong. I've met people from different tribes, cultures, religion, nationalities, races and one thing I've learned, is never to judge people by labels. 1 Like |

Reelectbuhari: You can believe whatever you want to believe, like I said earlier, I have parents from both north and east so I have no reason to lie against either Igbos or Hausas. If you truly lived in the north, then you should know that there were casualties on both sides. And during these riots, it's never about tribe but about whether you're a Muslim or a Christian. That's why in places like Kaduna, you have Muslim dominated areas and Christian dominated areas. I truly just wish that all these energy we put towards fighting tribal e-wars is channeled towards holding our leaders responsible. Because at the end there are only two tribes in Nigeria, the rich and the poor. 1 Like |

HiddenShadow: Southern Kaduna. If Nigeria breaks, we'll definitely go with middle belt. But it's really not about Northerners or Southerners. The effect of bad governance is affecting everyone. |

Reelectbuhari: You know, it's very sad that while we're battling to correct the bad impression of Nigerians outside(the moment you state that you are a Nigerian, you are immediately associated with fraud, drugs and prostitution) and racism in general, then you come back home and your follow Nigerian has these preconceived ideas about his fellow Nigerian. Sadly, most of the people that hold these views have never visited and lived in other parts of Nigeria or even tried interacting with people outside their region. I guess it's comforting to stay in your cocoon and believe whatever you want about others. I guess we can only work towards making sure that the upcoming generation don't hold these same views, else we doomed as a nation. |

naijareferee: There's nothing "fabricated" about the story. Igbos dislike Hausa/Fulanis. It's a fact. They might even have some friends from there, but their general prejudices against Hausa/Fulanis are clear. Hell, I pride myself on being "de-tribalized". I have absolutely nothing against Yorubas beyond some e-battle provocations, but I have my prejudices against those from the "core North". I don't care for a "Biafra" but I'd be delighted if this country could be split between the North and South (though I don't mind Middle Belt people either and would be more than happy to be in the same union with them). We are simply very different people and we will never live amicably with them. 5 Likes 1 Share |

alhassanyusuf29: Fulanis have entwined themselves in Hausa culture to utilize Hausa numbers for political dominance. That doesn't mean it is "impossible" to tell them apart. I find it surprisingly easy to identify Fulanis from Hausas. 2 Likes |

Obi1kenobi:You want to live with the Yoruba's but you don't like the Hausa's. Bro... I believe you don't even know the difference between Hausa and Fulani. I guess you think middle belt is all about Benue and taraba. And you think these places are made of just non Hausa's. You are absolutely funny if you think for one reason that you can live with the Yoruba's but cant live with the Hausa's. If this country split into north and south as you suggested, immediately the Yoruba's will create another narrative between the south country in order to instigate hate amongst them and look like the impartial judge. Pls travel more and experience the different individuals before making a random statement. |

ur a bloody lier! there has been intermarriage and breeding between both tribes for centuries now that even predates Nigeria, for a southerner to claim he can differentiate them apart where a core northern cant is pathetic to say the least..u can only tell them apart by guessing, but not base on facts on ground..how do u identify them if I may ask? dreamchaser90:This is not true. Even a homogenous country like japan has poor ppl. The tribal and religious diff in nigeria is the reason we are almost not progressing. The bad leaders are a manifestation of tribe and religion. To grow we must divide along tribe and religion so dat govt can become inclusive. Nigeria is the 2nd country with the most diverse ethnic grouping after u.s....and the only country with almost equal moslems and xtians...how can we progress with such individuality |

naijareferee: Erm.....yes. Yorubas are educated, learned people. They're industrious and productive and pioneer most fields in Nigeria historically. They are tolerant of all religions - including even their traditional religions. They're artistic. They're not prone to mindless violence. They produce most of Nigeria's civil activists. It's the land of Soyinka and Fela and Gani Fawehinmi and Victor Banjo etc. Igbos have lived freely with them for ages with no drama, regardless of the tribal stewpidity on Nairaland. Middle Belt people are very different from core Northerners: whether Kwara or Kogi or Benue or Plateau or even Nassarawa. My biggest problem with people from the core North is their intolerance and this is why extremism thrives in their midst: whether Boko Haram or Fulani Herdsmen. It's a fertile place to recruit people who thrive on mindless violence. They brought it on themselves with their illiberal, intolerant proclivities. They brought Sharia law to Nigeria, running a parallel constitution that allowed them to harass and prosecute people who violated no Nigerian law, whether they're smashing the goods of alcohol sellers or sentencing adulterers or whatever. They are the ones who severally riot and mass murder people for nonsense like some Danish journalists drawing an offensive cartoon of Mohammed, or Nigeria trying to host Miss World, or a Yoruba teacher murdered by her own Secondary School Students for allegedly desecrating the Koran: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/6477177.stm You can choose to be in denial all you want, but those people have a serious problem with intolerance. And yes, Igbos do dislike Northerners. I'm not saying prejudice is a good thing, but it's a fact that Igbos generally dislike Northerners. 2 Likes |

alhassanyusuf29: Who said otherwise before that they've been intermarrying? What do you think I meant by saying Fulanis have entwined themselves among Hausas? I can differentiate them. The overwhelming majority of the Northern elite are Fulani. I can identify them starting from their looks. Hausas are a Nilotic group and you can identify them separately from Fulanis who look more like their Sahelian neighbours in Guinea, Senegal, Mali etc. 2 Likes |

As an Igbo man, I don't see anything I have in common with the average Northerner. We don't eat the same food, we dont have the same traditions or value system. All we have is that Lugard brought us together. Never have I seen or heard that an Igbo man anywhere in the world professed his "undying love" for Northerners. How can you love something or someone you can't relate with? Then there is the long history of Northerners massacaring Igbos in Nigeria. There is no special relationship between Igbos and Northerners, all we do is manage things from one massacre to the next and from one quit notice to the other 4 Likes |
