2. Pls and pls , As stated so many times here... When asked how you got to know about the school.. they dont want to hear msinus or internet ish..
Absolute foolishness, how else are people supposed to look for schools, by consulting orisa and IFA abi grin grin grin..... there's nothing wrong with finding a school online, as that is what the internet was made for, getting information, otherwise previously unreachable due to location barriers, at the tip of your fingertips, hearing about the school from even buhari or Trump himself makes you no different from me who tailored my search on any of these college search engines, heck schools even have online tours for international applicants self, and ever ready support for those of us who "found them online"
Make sure you have a legit fellow who you heard about the school from..

VO asked this fellow how he got to know about the school and he called the name of a person.. the VO then told the guy to spell the name while he checked his database..
They have all this info on their server.. so be careful if you plan on using someone whose been through their system

Honestly, at bolded, how stupid do you think we are on this forum, VO's type all the time as they're constantly taking notes (which I feel is usually unnecessary). So the VO's have become the NSA , that have info about every damn human being you name, do you even realize that at least 4 people would bear your exact name, and except VO's can read minds how would thy know who you're talking about. grin grin.
Again , I call BS on this hearing about school from awon bill gates. Still no difference from doing online research, if Trump tells me about liberty university today, and I do no further research while femi who has done his thorough online research also appears for a visa interview, you think I would get the visa because Trump told me about he school?.. if your answer to the above question is yes, then your wisdom and intelligence has the mathematical complex number j attached to it ( its imaginary) grin grin grin grin

Ermm... i had a feeling i would have to explain this sooner or later cuz i just wrote it real quick just because all this have been mentioned here before...
Am sorry you werent able to get the message i was trying to pass across

1. what i meant about the internet ish is that,.. the internet shouldnt be your ONLY source or MAIN source..

and as for the 2nd one,
glad you mentioned the BOLDED... so the notes is for shako ba... i think you should go do your research on that.... ''as long as you went through their system, it doesnt take them up to 3 minutes to fetch you out"...

but all that doesnt matter.... Just have all your answers covered during an interview

The school has to pay for rent for its building and salary for it staff so there is no way they can charge international student 2,000$/3,000$ per year .

Minot state university tuition is about $6,500 and that about the cheapest

Summary: That school doesnt exist yet .

How will He explain that his relative is ready to foot the bill for his wife to eat and sleep in the United States.Remember the wife is not allowed to work to repay the money. This is not an investment in the students future. It is better he sticks to his personal fund else he will have a hard time convincing the VO. My two cents.

How will he explain his relative as sponsor on his i20 when asked? You can advise him.

That I don't have a definite answer for. He could try to explain the relative as her husband. That's is if the VO specifically ask about the relative stated on the I-20, which I really doubt. However, if the question is only who is sponsoring you, then the response should be her husband without mentioning the relative nor presenting the relatives account statement.
That is just my view on this matter and I might be wrong.
We all know no relative is giving his wife $5000 to be with her husband without promise of paying back. The VO just want to know she has enough money for her expenses and her husband is in the best position to provide that.

You have a point about ranking of the school but I disagree with placing mandatory emphasis on top 100/200 quota. How many folks from nairaland and outside have the financial capabilities of paying for a top 100 school? And do you know that some schools that are not even in the top 100 are great. My school is not in the top 200 but the dental program is the second best in the state. PVAMU and other HBCUs that are not in the Top 100-200 are highly respected in the US. I would rather suggest for folks applying to schools, they should check the school rating for the program they are applying for. Mayo clinic , Norton Health care, northwestern medicine etc, major health organizations hire alot folks from state universities you wont find on the top 100 list. And lastly, especially for Nursing students, check the rating of your school’s program in the state and the accreditation. In summary, a prospective student should ensure the school is accredited first, secondly, LinkedIn is an excellent source to verify the number of hired graduates from a particular school

Thank you oh.
Personally, I won’t even do outside #100

#FightMediocrity

Yes the course matters too. A lot of people here jump at courses that aren’t even marketable. If someone should talk now, they won’t let the person rest.

It’s so painful because nairaland is very popular. Newbies can come here and just jump at some of the “schools” they see “flying around”

I applied to UCMO during my application stage... Its a great school and the tuition is quite decently affordable too. Are you going for a health program?
quinzypearl:
Hi guys,

Please, Is it save or a good idea to pick university of central Missouri (UCMO) over Arkansas State University?.. They both offer me the course I want which is MA in mass communication... it was university of central Missouri I use last year for my visa interview for spring but was denied and that was due to me not been able to answer the VO questions properly...
Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 13 by Mekurexx: 6:54am On May 16, 2018
There is nothing like tuition waiver. Apply to schools that offer graduate assistantships which in turn waives off your tuition. GAs dont come cheap, you have to present a strong application. That being said, if you have a budget, do some research on google and you will find schools that fall in your financial range. Just discard the tuition waiver idea. Even Americans no dey go school for free. The kind gbese wey dem get for head due to accrued loans ehh !

You cant do that. Get admission, your i-20, book your visa appointment and then pay sevis

Not sure if you can pay with card from Nigeria, its blocks the option. Get somebody in the US to help you pay it via Paypal or wire transfer

Please I'm also having the same issue with eshipglobal. I can't add my mastercard to the PayPal. Can someone help with how I can pay for the eshipglobal

#100 is my own personal threshold. If you read earlier text, you’d see where I said that no one should do below top #1000 globally.
You’re just speaking out of context. Didn’t you read the full thread of the conversation

Like I said earlier, I’d say again; apply to the best school your profile can afford.
A lot of people here have modest profiles. >300 in GRE, 4.0 GPA, yet they’d apply to schools that are not even ranked. I never said everyone should apply to Harvard or Stanford or MIT. I remember saying the minimum threshold should be the top 1000 in the world. Why would you carry your hard earned money and go to a school that has no ranking?

ALL I’M SAYING IS STOP SETTLING FOR MEDIOCRITY. Yes, University of Ibadan is well ranked than some of the schools that have been mentioned here. People are blinded by the fact that it’s USA.

Wake up, not all schools in the USA are worth it. Do your research and aviloid mediocrity.

Cheers

The truth is I take into consideration the ranking of this schools, I will never leave the shores of Nigeria to attend a school where UI is well ranked above. I applied to 9 schools for fall 2018 and I made sure they are well ranked above UI (1099 in the world), which has the highest ranking in Nigeria. I know I cant made Harvard, MIT and Yale of this world but the school should ranked above what we have in the country. You must know what you are doing, don't just jump out because it is US or any part of the world. That is my take on this

Visa denied. Lagos. Post 2. 6am
Interview lasted for about 6 to 7 minutes

Me: Good morning
VO: no answer, pass me your passport and I 20
Me: Gave her

VO: why did you choose this school?
Me: I chose GGU because GGU has this curriculum that suits my career goals in this sense that offer students this environmental law and justice clinic whereby students get to work under attorneys and other US agencies(names one agency) while they study gaining rich practical experience on environmental Law. Then secondly GGU offered me a merit scholarship of 18000 dollars ( She was just starring at me)

VO: which program are you going for?

Me: masters degree on environmental Law

VO: (Cuts in) LLM on environmental law so what will this degree do for you?

Me: This degree upon my return to Nigeria will score me a job as legal officer with Nigerian Federal Environmental Protection Agency, then secondly when you look at PORT Harcourt where I live, there's a lot of ongoing environmental pollution cases and most of these victims are masses who can't afford to pay a lawyer,so I intend to set up a service oriented NGO in ph where these victims could be offered free access to justice and I believe that a good knowledge of this course will go a long way in equipping me.

VO:How many schools did you apply to?

Me 3 schools

VO: what's your highest qualification?

Me: BL... Barrister at Law

VO: Are you married
Me: Sure am married

VO: Any children?

Me: Yes I have one child,a son

VO: who is paying the rest of the tuition:

Me: My elder sister(calls her name)

VO: why did you chose this sponsor?
Me: Because she's been the one paying my tuition since secondary, university and Law school, she's like a mother to me

VO: sorry I won't....(hands me a blue paper and my passport

Me: Thanks

Please the gurus in this house should help me look at this, add or subtract where applicable. I actually prepared well for my interview and my interest is a bit dampened which is not too good for me.
I have a virgin passport which I have had since January 2014.

I am looking at reapplying but don't know what to state as the reason for the previous denial/what has changed in my application. I wouldn't also mind a mock interview
