It is always difficult to suggest schools because you are the only one that know yourself and what's important to you. If you go through these thread I am sure you will see some schools people have applied to and gotten accepted. You can also come up with schools that are not yet popular in here and in turn open the doors for others when you get in.
Personally I am not a fan of Cleveland state, I think you should aim higher considering your GPA.

Noted. Thanks for your response
Was asked by one of the University to get my degree evaluated for equivalency to US degree. How do I go about it?

OPEN PHD POSITION - CHEMICAL ENGINEERING WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY
I am recruiting for an open PhD position in my research group, and looking for candidates with a strong chemical engineering background. My research is in process systems engineering, with a focus on chemical process control. This is a very exciting research area that applies optimization and advanced mathematics to the design and characterization of new control designs that tackle important
industrial issues such as process operational safety and process profitability. We utilize a range of techniques to simulate and mathematically analyze closed-loop systems to tackle cutting-edge problems, including cybersecurity of chemical process control systems, developing physics-based models for control design from process data, and accounting for the impacts of time-varying process input policies on equipment material fidelity. Wayne State University is also uniquely placed in the city of Detroit, which is an exciting place to be right now as it is undergoing revitalization.

If you are interested in being considered for this PhD position, you can apply officially to the PhD program in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at Wayne State University on-line. If you would like to ask any questions before applying, I would be happy to answer them. You can email me at helen.durand@wayne.edu. You can also find out more about my research group on my website: http://durand.eng.wayne.edu/.

Hello house,

I'm a newbie I stumble upon this page while searching for ways to get funding for my msc program in the US. I have been trying to get first hand info on how to get funding but no success yet, I also tried to lookup info on this page that will be related to my discipline but I can't seem to find anything related to "Linguistics" I am considering a MSc program in computational linguistics . Please Anybody, I will to know what GRE score would be sufficient enough to fund a MSc program in Computational linguistics and considering the fact that I'm not a maths oriented student. (The GRE quantitative seems to be more easier for the mathematics oriented students)...

I'm presently in my final semester in a university here in Nigeria and my present undergraduate GPA is 4.3

Please anybody

This is the first time I'm hearing about computational linguistics. It sounds really interesting based on what I saw online. Simply check schools that offer your course and then mail the graduate Cordinator about funding opportunities. Also check the Frequently asked questions section of the admissions website. You will most likely find information about the range of test scores required.

Computational Linguistics is a Computer Science discipline not a Linguist discipline. It takes concepts from linguistic but is done by computer scientists not linguists.

Oga you are being corrected but you remain inexorable. You can't generalize that statement it depends on how the school department set it up. Now tell me what Is computational linguistics? I will answer for you. it's an area which uses linguistics rules to model natural language to be processed by software this mean you don't need to have a background in CS though it would be an added advantage to be able to program in a couple higher level language, let say Java

Infact My fiancée was a linguist graduate and she didn't do any computer science course before she started her Msc in computational linguistics.

computational linguistics courses often don't require any computer science background at all.

@ miracleadeyeye you can contact the graduate school of Brandeis university I believe they offer funding opportunities in computational linguistics and your BA degree in linguistics is just fine for MSc in computational linguistics

The Brandeis MA Program in Computational Linguistics is a specialized degree offered by and housed in the Department of Computer Science.

The First Year

All first-year students take LING 131: Programming for Linguistics in the Fall of the first year, and COSI 114: Fundamentals of Computational Linguistics in the Spring. Additional courses for the year are chosen by each student in consultation with the computational linguistics advising faculty, with the final schedule tailored to individual student needs and academic interests.

The goal is for all students to emerge from the first year with:

a strong foundation in the basics of both computer science and formal linguistics
facility and comfort with the fundamental techniques, goals, and methodology of computational linguistics, natural language processing, and corpus linguistics.

Any additional room in the first-year schedule is devoted to developing and strengthening the student's computer programming abilities, along with taking other computer science or linguistics electives of interest to the particular student.

Computer Science Background Courses

COSI 11 Programming in Java and C
COSI 12 Advanced Programming Techniques
COSI 21a Data Structures and the Fundamentals of Computing (required, but can be taken in the second year)
COSI 21b Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs (recommended)
LING 160 Mathematical Methods in Linguistics

Stop fooling yourself. If it's difficult for you to understand English then let me explain it to you like a kindergarten teacher: When I said she had her masters in computational linguistics without background in CS I mean prior to her admission she never did a computer science course. You argue so blindly and you have never even been to the States before, why are some Nigerians like this?

Computational linguistics is the scientific and engineering discipline concerned with understanding written and spoken language from a computational perspective, and building artifacts that usefully process and produce language, either in bulk or in a dialogue setting.

When did Linguistic become a Science and Engineering discipline?

i will address this not for your sake, but for the sake of future applicants who tend to gain from it

According to Wikis definition: Computational linguistics is an interdisciplinary field concerned with the statistical or rule-based modeling of natural language from a computational perspective, as well as the study of appropriate computational approaches to linguistic questions ( and not strictly scientific and engineering discipline as you claimed).

and if you don't know what interdisciplinary means you can do your self a favor use GOOGLE because "it may seem as though you know nothing" lol

Infact The "Association for Computational Linguistics" defines computational linguistics as:

...The scientific study of language from a computational perspective. Computational linguists are interested in providing computational models of various kinds of linguistic phenomena

Now is there any difference with those definition and my own precise definition which states that

it's an area which uses linguistics rules to model natural language to be processed by software?

Furthermore As quoted on Wiki Page

Traditionally, computational linguistics was performed by computer scientists who had specialized in the application of computers to the processing of a natural language. Today, computational linguists often work as members of interdisciplinary teams, which can include regular linguists, experts in the target language, and computer scientists. In general, computational linguistics draws upon the involvement of linguists, computer scientists, experts in artificial intelligence, mathematicians, logicians, philosophers, cognitive scientists, cognitive psychologists, psycholinguists, anthropologists and neuroscientists, among others.

And if you still want to to know if CS background is not compulsory for a Msc degree in Computational Linguistic then contact the graduate school of brandeis University or any grad school offering computational linguistics to find out. i am not the one in desperate need of an America Visa
