One he-goat just made me transfer #100 to his account.
Trip fare from fola agoro to Lekky County was #3400. He gave me #3500 and asked for #100 change. I told him I didn't have #100; but I have #200, so does he have #100 let me give him the #200. He said no.

I had to transfer #100 to him from my account, at the cost of #52.50.

It's a thin line between default and security deposit activation...

Where does one draw the line? When do u activate the security deposit clause?

Payout week is Monday - Tuesday, this week Uber paid out Wednesday - so when is default period?

Well like said or preached.. Assurance deposit will not solve all the problems.. It will reduced it, once the driver is owning you stop him from driving the car or take the car away asap ..and activate the deposit clause.. The rest of the money he owns you, u can try and battle it with his guarantor... my case for am example, a driver was owning me 10k for one week, and he said he will balance the following week ...you know what he did ,the following week came and he drop the car for a minor repair.. And he switch is phone off and he never pay the week rent of 30k.. If I had collected the car from him when he owned me 10k and activated the deposit clause my case wil be different.. Now I have to chase him for 40k now, which I might not get... so I might end up taking an "L" for dis one .. Like I said half bread is better than none..

One thing you have to keep in mind.. By the time every partner is collecting deposit, the driver will eventually get tired of jumping from one partner to another.. Because he is aware that he will have to drop another deposit that might higher than previous deposit.. The trick here is to form a collective efford in which a deposit is a must for all car owners .. Now in Yankee before uber took over the cab business.. A cab driver will have to pay one weeks rent before he even takes the cab.. To rent a car in the states now ,u still have to put down a deposit, the car rental will need to hold your credit card on hold of a certain amount ..once you return the rental they take off the hold on ur card.. Assuming that you return the car in good order.. Now this is a standard practice within the rental industry.. So it will hard for people to mess up.. Same for the hotel industry... so if the partners on uber can collectively have the same standard, it will reduce not eliminate payment issues .. Similar to the banking industry ,if you own one bank money , it will be hard for you to open another bank account .. It will show in their system that u are owning xyz bank money.. These industries work collectively together to protect themselves.. But for naija only time will tell and that is why you don't see generation wealth been pass on.. There is no discipline

Partners should note that "assurance" is not everything ooo. Or one day someone will just come and drop assurance of #50,000 and run your car under a trailer or have LASTMA impound the vehicle

Why can’t you take time to add the vehicle since no inspection needed on UBER. Uber accepts from 2000

I guess that should have been defined beforehand and also one thing I have come to learn in this business is NEVER BE RIGID.

Be Flexible and Be Human. Don’t be too flexible and don’t be rigid.

If Driver didn’t pair with you and claim delay in payment by Uber, you can simply confirm the authenticity of the claim.

If claim is genuine like this week delay payment by Uber, Na to just understand with Driver (That’s if he never give story before about weekly rental oooo).

And like I once said, there is no One Fit Them all Solution in this business. We keep learning and keep getting better daily in the business.

Let go make some money.

Yes Boss, Security Deposit a.k.a Assurance isn’t everything and nobody claims it’s a perfect system but as at this moment it’s working and if we don’t have Driver defaulting on pre-agreed weekly rental no car owner would be asking for security deposit from drivers.

At the highlighted words, Insurance covers accidents and if Na me, I go clear my car but the driver would be the one making the payment.

He can run but can’t hide. grin cheesy

Trust me, that’s when you understand the meaning of the terms of the agreement you signed and your suitable Guarantors that signed for you.

You miss the point. He felt I wanted to chop his #100 when I told him I had no change.
Meanwhile, this was someone I waited for at pickup location for about 15 minutes, while he was chatting with and hugging his girlfriend at her hair salon, I also dropped off his friend at Dominoes area Yaba; before we commenced the trip.

And by the way, I provided the service. I'm not supposed to be the one tipping him. It should be the other way round

Drivers can default.
Take for instance that partner whom the driver set his debit account on Uber back by over #48,000. grin

Never say never.

Bottom line... owners should collect assurance deposit.. It will limit your risk.. If I had collected deposit, the debit would have been reduced or non existed... owners should collect assurance deposit period...

True it's not everything, but it is because of things like lastma precisely that security deposit is necessary. The trailer own will happen whether or not they pay security deposit, that is where insurance comes in. That's why I advise partners to do comprehensive insurance.
On a friendlier note; for partners in Abuja. I manage vehicles for partners who choose not to do it themselves. I assure you get your pay weekly.
I also have guides for both partners and drivers, you can buy those from anywhere in Nigeria.
Give me a call.
