Good morning house,

Please I want to know what could be wrong with my car before I take it to mechanic to avoid wasting money . My car is Toyota Avensis 2005.
The issue is when I apply brake in order to stop I hear noise. The noise is as if the plastic sand protector under the engine is brushing or touching the ground. I have checked and there's no loose plastic hanging. Though my steering shakes when I apply brake in speed which I learnt is brake disc issue .

Oluwaseun, Gazzuz , anyone who knows it please respond. Thank you sir.

Vibrations when you apply brakes at top speed is likely a rough brake disc. I hope your brake pads are not too low.

I'm not too sure of the other sound.

Well like said or preached.. Assurance deposit will not solve all the problems.. It will reduced it, once the driver is owning you stop him from driving the car or take the car away asap ..and activate the deposit clause.. The rest of the money he owns you, u can try and battle it with his guarantor... my case for am example, a driver was owning me 10k for one week, and he said he will balance the following week ...you know what he did ,the following week came and he drop the car for

a minor repair.. And he switch is phone off and he never pay the week rent of 30k.. If I

collected the car from him when he owned me 10k and activated the deposit clause my case wil be different.. Now I have to chase him for 40k now, which I might not get... so I might end up taking an "L" for dis one .. Like I said half bread is better than none..

One thing you have to keep in mind.. By the time every partner is collecting deposit, the driver will eventually get tired of jumping from one partner to another.. Because he is aware that he will have to drop another deposit that might higher than previous deposit.. The trick here is to form a collective efford in which a deposit is a must for all car owners .. Now in Yankee before uber took over the cab business.. A cab driver will have to pay one weeks rent before he even takes the cab.. To rent a car in the states now ,u still have to put down a deposit, the car rental will need to hold your credit card on hold of a certain amount ..once you return the rental they take off the hold on ur card.. Assuming that you return the car in good order.. Now this is a standard practice within the rental industry.. So it will hard for people to mess up.. Same for the hotel industry... so if the partners on uber can collectively have the same standard, it will reduce not eliminate payment issues .. Similar to the banking industry ,if you own one bank money , it will be hard for you to open another bank account .. It will show in their system that u are owning xyz bank money.. These industries work collectively together to protect themselves.. But for naija only time will tell and that is why you don't see generation wealth been pass on.. There is no discipline

Dru, you are totally right on this. I had a driver that I trusted so much but he took my trust and leniency for granted. He collected my car on rental without any security deposit, all i asked from him was his original drivers license so he was driving with the laminated one. Since he took d car(tokunbo) on rental it was story upon story until Last week that i couldn't tolerate his stories anymore. At this time he was owing me 45k so i asked him to bring my car which he reluctantly brought, my car was looking dirty, he wasn't checking oil level and car engine could have knocked if driven one more day. To cut a long story short he dropped d car and left without any remorse knowing fully well d bad state he put my car. The next day i called him in a friendly manner that I wanted him to drive me to somewhere and he obliged. He came and I quietly collected his phone and d laminated drivers license, in less than 2hrs he brought all d money he was owing me and I made me buy new oil for d engine as a result of his negligence.

This is why riders always say Uber is more expensive, I always nod and agree with them

Chuwaa:
THE POWER OF BRAND!

So this morning enroute Abuja, my first instinct was to request Uber and I did so, after the ride I decided to compare Uber and Taxify. I was wondering as a driver why I didn't think first of Taxify?
As Uber as Indomie, as Omo ...
BTW is Taxify really more expensive as some claim.
I decided to compare

Yes Boss, Security Deposit a.k.a Assurance isn’t everything and nobody claims it’s a perfect system but as at this moment it’s working and if we don’t have Driver defaulting on pre-agreed weekly rental no car owner would be asking for security deposit from drivers.

At the highlighted words, Insurance covers accidents and if Na me, I go clear my car but the driver would be the one making the payment.

He can run but can’t hide. grin cheesy

Trust me, that’s when you understand the meaning of the terms of the agreement you signed and your suitable Guarantors that signed for you.

Don't mind him.. Tell him also that comprehensive insurance is not everything.. Am sure insurance will not cover the car if the driver internationally damages the engine by putting salt inside the fuel tank

Yes o it might be the brake pads. Have had that experience few months ago.. This is what happens when you use cheap brake pads..

Wow, am happy for you that you finally get your money and your car back without major issues.

Please before you give a new driver your car, kindly ensure to do the following:

1. Call him to come for inspection. Have him drive your car while you seat close to him in the front seat observing how he drives etc.

2. Collect 2 reputable Guarantors. Collect their passport photograph, a copy of their work ID, and a copy of either National ID, Driver License or International Passport. (I prefer the international passport sha)

3. Call and visit the guarantors to confirm that they signed the documents and understand the implications of signing it.

4. Do take time to visit the driver’s resident address as stated in the agreement. Do that without informing him, and do enter to confirm someone like that live there and if he his around enter politely to let him know you just came to say hello.

5. Do ask for the previous car owner phone number and ensure you call him/her without the driver knowledge. Ask about the experience his/her experience with the driver.

6. Collect Security Deposit “Assurance” from the Driver.

7. Never Ever joke with your vehicle inspection. If you do weekly physical inspection of the car with your now ex-driver you will have observed the abused on your car.

8. Be flexible but not too flexible. Never ever be Rigid with him.

9. Treat him like human. Forget about Car Owner - Driver relationship. See it like partnership, treat him like your family, your brother or your close paddy. Treat him well.

10. Don’t mix business with pleasure with him. Also have a contingency plan in place in case he want show say he be your village people.

And please, transfer his excess back to his account if he does more card trips than your agreed weekly rental payment. Don’t owe him a kobo. Remember it’s his sweat and he deserves to enjoy his fruit of labor.

Let go make some money.

Lol, someone once said on this thread that experience is overrated.
Not so, those of us who know, know
We've earned our stripes!

Na me talk am grin

It's all about the context of discuss.

We were not talking about driving experience, but prior experience driving on uber in relation to making money.

And I still maintain my earlier stance on the matter.

For me, if I were to partner with a driver for e hailing, my basic criteria would be

Pass driving test
Pass Google Map test
Pass common sense test
Pass Background and guarantor check
Can pay weekly rental upfront or assurance deposit grin

With these, I would easily drop my car without requiring prior experience driving on uber or taxify.

I just gave my first car out 13 weeks precisely and the driver is yet to default once or come up with any excuse, before giving him the vehicle he had no experience with uber or taxify and i had to help him with the registration because he his a very good driver . so i agree with you 100% on this, general driving experience is more important that the driving on uber , personally i think those ones experienced with uber/taxify are the ones that think they can outsmart you

Ok, I have heard you.

Wether you have e hailing experience or not, there's no end to knowledge and even the experienced ones keeps learning daily on the job.

Or did you bring e hailing experience from heaven at birth?

When you started driving, are you saying you couldn't make money at all? Or it wasn't possible for you to set aside 35k weekly if you do the general average of 8-10 trips daily?

If you could do that, that is all the partner cares about.

Everyone starts from zero e hailing experience. Initially I was concerned cos I didn't know much of lagos roads. But I quickly discovered that one could achieve the 80-100k weekly benchmark if you're not lazy.

Personally for me, I will never accept lack of e hailing experience from a driver as a reason not to deliver weekly rental. And that's all we are really talking about-ability to deliver your weekly rentals without stories/excuse. It's usually about laziness, lack of zeal, integrity etc and never about e hailing experience.

Nice one bro.
This is the kind of stuff that's important to me. As long as he can pass other important tests, I see no reason why one should not partner with this driver just because he doesn't have e hailing experience. Someone that's ready to put down weekly rentals upfront. I personally will consider him first compared to someone with e hailing experience but no upfront weekly rentals
