Niv25: Thank you so much for reposting this. First things first, don't kill yourself over things you can't change. The 6 year gap is something you can't change, it has happened already, why worry about it? Nobody will deny your visa solely because of a 6 year gap. They may not even ask you that question. If you're asked, say what you've been doing and keep it simple (your proposed answer wasn't). Personally, I think your answers are too vague. You talk about a curriculum matching your desired course for instance. I have absolutely no clue what that means (A VO may not ask you to explain and instead go with the "this one is just saying nonsense" gut feeling). I always stress understanding a question before answering it. Let's take your question 1 for example... Depending on when this question is asked, it may mean different things. Scenario 1: VO: why are you going to the U.S? You: to study at CSU. VO: Why did you choose CSU? Scenario 2: VO: how many schools did you apply to, name them and how many offered admission? You: Three; CSU, OU, UT; all three. VO: Why did you choose CSU? See? In these two scenarios, I would think the first one is asking WHY did you apply to CSU? What about the school caught your eye? While the second one is asking why you accepted the admission offer from CSU (and not why you applied there). I like the guaranteed tuition part (try to quote figures), I feel like it answers scenario 2 a whole lot better. You need more work on how you're answering questions. Try to watch Donald Trump's speeches (I wish I had a better example lol), he won't just say "the past governor wasted a lot of money" or "That was a bad deal for Americans". He will specifically tell you the amount of Millions abi billions wasted, and immediately, he'd sway your mind and you'd think he spent the last 72 hours investigating lol. This is what I encourage. "They are going to double my salary" is not as strong as "They'll increase my salary from 150k to 300k". "The course will make me practise computer" is a "No" for me. Finally: Considering the fact that the degree gotten from the us is highly respected internationally. This degree will make me more relevant in the Nigerian work sector. So I will be returning home to join the work force in my country. I will be fit to work in different sectors such as Industries, government etc. summarizes your general approach to answering questions: Too vague. My recommendation: go back and read your "statement of purpose" if you submitted one during your application. Tell yourself what YOU really want and practise how to communicate this clearly to a VO. 14 Likes 1 Share |

Good day Everyone. I'm a silent reader from Kuwait and I'm in urgently in need of you guys help. I was refused F1 visa some weeks ago and the main reason was because I was refused visit visa in 2016. This is the transcript V.O: why did you choose New Mexico Highlands Uni Me: I choosed New Mexico Highlands Uni because it's a public research institute which core values are responsiveness, diversity & excellence. It's a small & calm place to learn and grow. The computer science department has 2 large teaching lab, 3 small research lab & also an areas set aside for network experimentations. The classes are about 15-35students, this enables the professors to know you all by names and u can always meet them if you have any problem with your studies. V.O: which countries have you been to Me: Nigeria, Kuwait and United Arab Emirates. V.O: where do you work and how much is your salary Me: I told him V.O: does your husband works for Us Army Me: my husband is an accountant V.O: ohh your friend works for US Army Me: then I remembered the family friend sponsoring my visit visa back in 2016 works with the Us Army but lives in Kuwait. So I told him yes a family friend works with the USA Army V.O: Are you going with your husband Me: I'm going alone, my husband works here in Kuwait. V.O: he types for a while and told me he is sorry, he can't approve my visa. Please I'm planning to go for another interview by next month hopefully. I know it's hard to convince them since it's in their record I have a family friend in USA army but I need you guys help. I believe you can help me out. I just need to get this b.sc please. I will be patiently waiting for your responses. Thanks in advance & God bless |

good morning all...... to me there is no such tin as red flagged school ...if you have the right documents, the school is accredited and your intentions are good ,I see no reason in you been denied a visa ,,though it is based on the vo's perception....... yesterday a guy said to me that the school I picked is a red flagged school ,he said I would be denied a visa ,which is absolutely wrong ........i have a brother and a friend that was issued a visa and they picked the same school I picked ....do not let anyone discourage you ... 6 Likes 1 Share |

I do understand your point Ma'am. Thank you I think the question that the VO asked was 'how did you hear about the school?' Is it out of place to answer by saying that you heard or it was recommended by a friend who is a student there then you went ahead to make your research...? LagosismyHome: |

theamerican: Thank so much ma'am for your observation and correction. Actually I was trying to be concise in my answers here. in the first answer I was unable to talk about how the curriculum fits with my intending course. I also want to ask, what if I talk about the rankings and the guarantee aspect of the tuition and the boards as the reasons why I chooses the school. will this be ok? or do I really need to talk about the curriculum matching with my choice of course?. The answers I gave towards what will this course do for you? was gotten from the school's website. But am still going to work seriously on that ma'am. what would you be doing after your study in the US? what if say. I will be returning to my Nigeria to join the work force. I also intend working with the government agency like EFCC to help in combating against cyber crime in Nigeria. i would also love to setup a big IT firm here in Nigeria, where I will able to groom and train passionate computer lovers.( I can also provide a job letter as In form of a job offer from a Chinese company partnering with our company as a proof of home tie) would love to know your own thought on this ma'am. |
