-As Police declare bankers wanted

The Divisional Police Office, Lion Building, Campbell Street at the Lagos Island has declared eight persons, who were of the banking profession, wanted over charges bordering on fraudulent theft of over N600 million naira from depositors’ accounts with First City Monument Bank (FCMB).

After securing an arrest warrant from a magistrate court in Lagos, the police division stated that the suspects, if seen, should be arrested and brought to its station or the nearest police station, even as it gave 08033068667 and 08182465467 as numbers that can be reached by anyone who comes across the wanted persons.

The names of the bankers as declared in the official gazette and made available to meganews.com.ng are: Linda Natufe Chekwube, Matthew Akpan Benny, Juwon Faromoh, Oluwasoji Ajetumobi, Ogunlaja Olasukanmi Ganiyu, Oshiojum Chibuzor Wilson, Akanaga Christian Chika and Nelson Omuzagha.

The names and offences for which the bankers are on the wanted list can be seen and read in the special police gazette bulletin published below.

Though, the Adam Nuru-led FCMB prides itself as one of the most reliable financial institutions in Nigeria, depositors have continued to wonder how safe their monies are with the lender as the bank has become a safe haven for fraudulent officials.

Recall that a staff of the bank, Adejare Sonde, was arraigned recently over the theft of N124million from a depositor’s account.

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in Ibadan Zone, arraigned the suspect before Justice A. A. Akinyemi of the State High Court sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on a 12-count charge bordering on stealing, forgery and uttering.

Sonde was accused of using his position as the account officer to a micro-finance bank to steal N124 million from the customer’s account.

The petitioner explained that Sonde, as account officer of the customer, allegedly collected cash from the micro-finance bank on several occasions totaling N124 million which were not credited into the customer’s account.

Further investigations revealed that the defendant (Sonde) allegedly doctored emails which he sent to the micro-finance bank as monthly statements of account, while there was no remittance in the account.

Similarly, on January 19, two officials of the bank, identified as Walter Ekomaye and Ebenezer Adelowo, were also arraigned for allegedly making illegal withdrawal of N23 million from customers’ accounts and stealing N17.5 million from Automated Teller Machine (ATM) deposits.

Some bankers will just be stealing left, right and centre, after swearing oath of secrecy, and pledging to protect customer's funds.

It's quite pathetic

This is why lengthy jail terms should be slammed on fraudster. 20-30 years in prison.

These guys are worse than armed robbers and on the same level with ritualists.

Someone's sweat!

I am not surprised.

There was a morning I was in one of their branches.
A woman walked in complaining of unauthorized withdrawals from her account via ATM.

She complained bitterly in the banking hall, she said her ATM card had expired over a year ago and never got a new ATM card intentionally.
She was flinging her card for whoever cared to see the expiry date on it while complaining.

Those bankers couldn't explain, in fact they didn't show any sign of concern, it looked as if it was a normal occurrence to them.

After the woman left, few of them talked silently and all bursted into laughter.

I felt bad.

Since then, I run from FCMB.

While our political leaders did not swear an oath while assuming office abi?

When all other sectors in the same country is wallowing in corruption you expect sanity in the banking sector.

Fcmb is more of a micro finance bank to me.

Very unprofessional bank.

Why wont they employ former yahoo boys turned bankers.

Most of the young ones working in the bank were once yahoo boys/girls in the university.

In as much you can't pray for your father's investment to pack off over night. Pls learn to address issues on social media. Otunba Subomi has really sacrifice a lot to make the bank become what it is today. Go and read my post today on this you will find answer to your problem there. To be honest there is nothing wrong with the bank but the system is faulty.
I know board of director very well, they must have been thinking on what to do ASAP.

When they keep sacking good staff everyday with the excuse of performance .What does FCMB expect ?The bank is just a haven of disgruntled elements posing as bankers.

Anyway what do you expect from a bank funded by the Balogun family .An institution funded on fraudulent activities will always produce fraudulent staff. The staff only took their own share of the loot. I just pity the depositors.
