AlphaT1:NMA has a point saying that the title of consultancy would mislead patients because it is true. remember that majority of the population in developing countries are educated while the reverse is the case in nigeria. For crying out loud, many nigerians dont know the difference between a doctor and a nurse, especially if the person is female. Ask most female doctors, especially those that work in the public setting, a patient has referred to them as 'nurse' several times, meanwhile i have personally seen a lot of male nurses being called 'doctor' by patients. |

worlexy:leave him alone, he has forgotten that nigerian patients are good liars, they will say it was the doctor that did it, when some don't even know that it was an auxillary nurse. everyone in the health sector makes mistakes |

phantom:Stop kidding yourself. You can NEVER 'exsanguinate' any profession. They all distinct and independent as the court have previously affirmed. Have you ever heard of Consumer ordered test (COT) and Patient ordered tests (POT) as obtainable in advanced climes? If the Medical Scientists were actually entirely dependent on physicians they would have fizzled away by now as we all know how you have tried to no avail emasculate the profession. The laboratory have survived majorly without you, with enlightened walk-in patients, pharmacists, nurses, physiotherapists and other health professionals requesting direct testing services. Most of the successful laboratories I know have less than 17% of their tests requested by physicians. Afterall some of you greedy physicians run your fake 'side labs' in your clinics and hospitals employing lowly paid quacks and churning out ridiculous results like Widal tests with titre values of 1\45, 1/73 etc. Lol There are more than 12,000 different medical laboratory tests and investigations with different methodologies, and principles most of you physicians know only mp, widal, urinalysis, FBC, culture, eucr and a few others. Less than 0.01% of the total available testing panels that could help patients investigate their ailments. The medical scientist is trained on them all. Take a sit and stop hyperventilating about destroying other health professions. You have tried and failed. Give it up! |

frankpro27:You are cashing in on people's ignorance, congratulations though. If the health insurance scheme is strengthened. If everyone including those in the grassroots become enrolled in National, state and community health insurance, the way it is done in advanced, would ur gross, unintelligent and incompetent quackery still suffice. Comparing urself to doctors make u all shades unintelligent uneducatable. |

phantom:The fight for Consultancy status as carried by JOHESU will only benefit those who have gone through the rigour of their different post graduate colleges...not for all, and I doubt, Radiographers would be conferred such, as they do not have such school yet...The keyword is YET. phantom:I hope this will happen, so we can see how the health sector will be well served... God bless the nigerian health sector! phantom:Just like there have been a revolving place for a REPORTING RADIOGRAPHER in other climes, same will happen in Nigeria health system... It can only be delayed but it will happen (of course, I bet you are aware of some radiographers reporting currently) phantom:As for this statement...I smile, as it still showcases who was actually talking... Nigerians, you be the judge! Im out PHANTOM
Overall, nice reasonable thoughts to some extents... Note A leader must always be seen to be the leader (by carrying everyone along) and not just saying he is one... I made this comments, as I believe I am talking to a more matured Dr. |

Stoicbaba:Excuse me when this happens what will be the use of radiologists.because on this thread,we have pharmacists who claim to be doctors without surgical knowledge and now radiographers.personally it seems to me that varoius sectors are taking bits of the doctors role and adding it to theirs.pls enlighten me. |

worlexy:With this mindset you will find it difficult to assimilate well in saner climes. Everything you wrote here is what is wrong with Nigeria. Doctor's job are being done by other people. Some have done so for years without getting caught, maybe you have not been listening to news of primary and secondary school dropouts who have been working as doctors for aeons. Talk more of nurses, pharmacist and LAB scientists. The sole difference is that others were taught to obey the law and respect professional boundaries while doctors in Nigeria are erroneously told that they can commit quackery and go scot free. What more can I say, until the malpractice lawyers start living up to expectations, the disgraceful mindset behind this write up will always be a yardstick for international community to qualify our health system as one of the worst in the world. There is no developed country with good health indices that have their doctors claiming that they are jack of all trade. Honestly, this is quite unsettling and disgraceful. Please argue about this in the confine of your home not on the internet where every sane people converge. |
Argue with facts to disprove what I put up and stop wailing [/quote]What you put up there is fallacious a d quackery. You have been doing it for so long in this ceespit of a country that you believed it to be the norm. Doctors performing the professional duties of others are committing quackery. In saner climes you can be jailed for it but here a doctor is glorifying quackery. SMH. Many operating nurses in Nigerian that performs surgery will never come out to disclose it, yet you are here running your self up and down thinking that it is okay to glorify quackery and grandstanding. Pheww. That is very shameful. A case in point is a psychiatrist performing the duties of a clinical psychologist in Nigeria. Ewww. Just to show that he can do it...wth. Both are distinct profession for God's sake. Smh. I won't dwell in your early post because it stinks that a trained and board certified physician reasons that way. |

I think the best thing is for government to sack all of us in Johesu and we will then leave the health sector for doctors Let peace reign |

funmisticqueen:How does calling you a nurse as a doctor affect patient care? It is your duty to educate them that you are not a nurse but a doctor or vice versa. Thank God you made reference to public setting, is it possible for a pharmacist to go into d doctor's consulting room and consult because he is a consultant? No. Every professional has their area and office of practice which cannot be substituted. Even a paediatrician for example cannot just go and consult say in opd just because he is a doctor. Public settings are organized settings with rules and regulations and sanctions as well. |

AlphaT1:it doesnt but it butresses the point that a patient can assume a nurse is a doctor, and when that happens, espcially in the rural setting, quack practices can take place. i have personally heard a patient say a doctor gave his son 'blood transfusion' at home. only to find out that the blood in question was probably what i think was iron sucrose or iron dextran in normal saline solution. |

addey44:Kwara state has been appointing non-doctors as commissioners over the years. The records are there for anyone interested. Why this is being made another 'Hotoro' at this material time is what is funny and suspicious. What has their appointment done differently from what obtains in other states? What is grand about healthcare delivery in Kwara state? Truth is when the appointees get their on the back of their struggle, everything further down the line is personal. |

daniel2090:Honestly, you've said it all. I think it is high time they introduced history of medicine and it's allies to the curriculum of all in health so that people will understand where their roots lie. I also blame some medical elders of yore who never looked over their shoulders in the erroneous belief that their best interest would be protected. Patient welfare was all they cared about until emergence of these cancerous growths bedevilling us today. Some more elderly consultants even consider it an insult that doctors have to be struggling to have their salary relativity preserved when ab initio, doctors and justices were at same pay levels. Today the difference between a Chief Justice and a consultant special grade I is as high as heaven is to earth. It's really disheartening how we have treated ourselves where senior doctors ridicule junior ones in presence of nurses etc. We are like reaping what we sowed over the years. What most observers don't know is that this is a battle for the soul of medical profession. Losing it is not an option and this is the reality everybody else would have to assimilate however unpleasant and hurtful it sounds. |

funmisticqueen:There are quacks everywhere and in every profession. The case of mistaken identity due to patient's ignorance can happen but does not affect patient care. Again the public health setting is designed in such a way that a pharmacist cannot do the work of a doctor and the nurse cannot do the work of a doctor whether you call them doctor or not pls leave sentiment aside. I have discussed this erroneous assumption with my colleagues (medics) including our able boss who is a consultant (family medicine) and they have all kept sentiment aside to agree with the real facts. There is a kind of strange medical practice in Nigeria that d doctor assumes he knows everything and he is above error, the consultants also oppress the juniors doctors even when he is wrong you dare not point it out to him (he is all knowing)..it's all about ego ....this training is not good for medical practice and by extension, patient care ...ask any of your colleagues who are practicing abroad to gist you more about the practice over there... |

chioma134:Hahaha.... that is how they expose themselves. One so called 'vocal' pharmacist (I would rather describe him as having oral diarrhoea) was handed over to law enforcement agencies at a meeting organised by NDLEA that had in attendance other security agencies. It was a forum to discuss the menace of drug abuse and ways forward. The same spirit that has been pushing one of my acquitances to go shout 'transmission transition' at police station entered him. He started boasting how he was 'treating' people including youths with tramadol without doctors prescription. You needed to have seen the drama. Until regulatory agencies get more serious and arrest challatans in health care who exploit people's ignorance to enrich themselves, we would continue to be worse off in every area others excell. |

The biggest shame in Nigeria is poor political will, if we had reasonable leaders, Johesu leaders should be in jail now. Sadly, they persecute a visionary like NK, but pat medical terrorists like Biobelemoye on the back. Biobelemoye has caused the murder of over a thousand well meaning Nigerians and should rot in jail for the rest of his life. |
