This is not a joking matter, people that can confirm this should notify the appropriate authorities. These things shouldn't be spotted in residential areas!

Let hungry Nigerians grab the snake, the venom would disappear.
That snake is not to be messed with. A small drop of its venom is enough to wipe out over 100 people.

what is it then?
it is true it is an inland taipan and it is not native to Nigeria, there is no facts that it is Nigeria

the pictures he took is from wikipedia.Inland taipans adapt to their environment by changing the colour of the skin during seasonal changes.
They tend to become lighter during summer and darker during the winter. This seasonal colour change serves the purpose of thermoregulation, allowing the snake to absorb more light in the colder months.

This snake wont adapt well here in Nigeria.

Point of correction, the inland taipan is the world's deadliest snake on land, not the black nor brown mamba. Someone must have smuggled the snake into Nigeria, and the snake slithered away from captivity.

Kylekent59:
There is no way inland taipan could be in Lagos. Do you think it wld adapt to that habitat. Each snakes have its own habitat. Check the snake well.

Some people just wonna trend online,no confirmation of news before bringing it to FP.

More so, poisonous snakes are snakes that cannot be eaten / snakes that arn't edible(e.g boom slang, water snake, mostly green snakes, even Python,Anaconda..etc), While venomous snakes are snakes with fangs, rattle,V shaped head, cat eyed.(e.g copper head,B.mamba, cobra, timber snake, rattle snake, boomslang with dark spot, dessert brown snake, etc)

Do not keep snakes as pets, eliminate them once seen in your house, at your home,POW etc.

Also,do not look into their eye, that's when they will spit and once it touches the eyes it could lead to blindness.

So note their differences.
No mind am jare...
He probably just got to know about it, saw a brownish snake, and boooom, its Inland taipan.
just like some people don't know the difference between alligator and croc....
its so worse that some see a black snake and call it black mamba

Such ignorance. He raised alarm yet didn't present a video or pictorial evidence. He said "imagine it spitting in your water supply". Snake venom is only harmful when introduced directly to the bloodstream, digestive enzymes render it harmless.

If the government arrests this one for misleading the public people will cry foul not knowing he brought it on himself.
You are correct but not absolutely. If you have a cut in your throat or stomach, the poison when ingested with water, can pass to the blood stream through the cut.

the oap is ignorant with that spitting into spitting into tank comment.swallow venom nothin go happen..it only only acts when it gets into the blood stream..however on hunting humans yes it does not not but one bit from this specie of snake in nigeria is a death sentnce because for one the anti venom cannot be here since it was not expected to occur here in the first instance
Again, You are correct but not absolutely. If you have a cut in your throat or stomach, the poison when ingested with water, can pass to the blood stream through the open wound.

According to the cool FM OAP, the world’s second deadliest snakes have invaded the Lekki/Ajah areas in Lagos. N6 brought this unsettling revelation to the attention of people and wrote;

Probably hid in someone's cargo or something.
Very soon it's Anacondas that they'll start seeing.

But seriously precautionary steps should be taken, this particular snake doesn't joke when it comes to highly potent venom..

But I trust Nigerians, nobody will bat an eyelash till they start recording fatalities..

U are absolutely right!
We are so used to being reactive rather than proactive!
Sadly, this mentality extents to other key sectors of our society!

All these dumb OAP.
Why didn't he mention the particular community it was noticed. Lekki ^Ajah is a generic name now used to name area's within that axis.
He should name the particular community/communities it was seen.
Was it any of the communities as mentioned below
Awoyaya, Lakowe, abijo, badore, Eleko, Shapati, Bogije, imalaetalafia, abijo GRA etc. With specifics it will be now easy to isolate and work on containing this poisonous snakes.

Snake venom ingested in any form is toxic to the human body. Please be well advised before spreading misleading information.

If you had a cut in your gums, tongue, or throat you probably will get poisoned, but it is highly unlikely as a considerable amount has to permeate into your blood stream to kill you. I don't know if it will have an effect in your stomach, Ulcer is the most likely injury you can have in the stomach and I don't think this can affect it. But you are kinda right.

AkpaMgbor:
I immediately dismissed the post when I read the spitting into your water part...ingesting a snake’s venom orally is not harmful..only when it is intravenously injected directly into the bloodstream does it get dangerous..the hydrochloric(HCL) acid and gastric juices in the stomach neutralizes the venom before it gets assimilated into the bloodstream...
Yeah, somebody talked about it having effect in the stomach, but if like you said the gastric/digestive acid can neutralize venom, then it means the only fear would be if one has an injury in the mouth. Which again may be unlikely to cause any fatal effect because the venom has been diluted in the water.

I am absolutely correct.

Maybe on the lips, yes but once the poison mixes with saliva in the mouth it loses potency. In the presence of water it is already diluted considerably.
My opinion stands.

when they say one drop of a snake venom can kill 100 men that doesn't mean it can actually happen,a snake can only bite one person at a time.
and about spitting inside water, drinking snake venom is basically harmless to humans
You know it's quite incredible the stupidity that pervades the Nigerian society and to think the guy is an OAP o! Seriously, snake spits in a water source? Daftness unlimited.
