boman2014:
After marathon meeting between the House of
Representatives and the Senate, the National Assembly on Tuesday listed conditions for peace between the legislature and the executive arms of government.

The lawmakers, arising from the over two hours closed
meeting, also threatened to invoke their constitutional
powers should the President fail to adhere to the
resolutions as they passed a vote of no confidence on
the Inspector General of police, Idris Ibrahim.

Here are the resolutions:

Senate President Bukola Saraki reports that at the joint
session, the National Assembly resolved as follows:

1. The Security Agencies must be given marching orders to contain all the sustained killings of Nigerians
and protect the lives and properties of Nigerians — as
this is the primary duty for any responsible government.

2. The systemic harassment by the executive of perceived political opponents — people with contrary
opinions in the legislature and the judiciary — by the
police and other security agencies must stop.

3. There must be strict adherence to the rule of law and protection for all citizens by the President and all his appointees.

4. The President must be held accountable for the
actions of his appointees and must be ready to sanction, those that carry out any act, that will ridicule
or endanger the country and our democracy.

5. The government should show sincerity in the fight
against corruption by not being selective and also
prosecute current appointees that have cases pending
against them.

6. The sanctity of the National Assembly should be
protected and preserved by the federal government and
prosecute those who invaded the Senate to seize the
mace.

7. Democratic elections must be competitive and inclusive by removing the current reign of fear and
intimidation — particularly as we approach the
forthcoming 2019 elections.

8. The National Assembly will liaise with the
international community through the IPU, the APU,
ECOWAS Parliament, Pan-African Parliament, EU, US
Congress and the United Nations to secure our democracy. The National Assembly will also engage
with civil society organizations trade unions and NGOs
to further deepen and protect our democracy.

9. The President must take immediate steps to curtail
the growing level of poverty and unemployment in
Nigeria — especially now that we have an advantage
of high oil prices.

10. Both chambers of the National Assembly hereby
pass a vote of confidence on the Senate President, the
Speaker and the entire leadership of the National
Assembly.

11. We also hereby reaffirm our earlier resolution on
the vote of no confidence on the Inspector General of
Police, who does nothing but preside over innocent
Nigerians with an outright disregard for constitutional
authority of both the executive and the legislature.

12. The National Assembly will not hesitate to invoke
its constitutional powers if nothing is done to address
the above resolutions passed today.

Can you imagine ajebota Saraki or Dino in Gashua prisons? The charge they will use is ready, the judges that will do it are all ready. When you are corrupt, you are the weakest politician alive

They should first a d foremost return the money they collected to approve 2018 budget.

Until they are truly independent and don't partake in the perceived corruption going in in the govt then nobody will take them seriously

Cowardly Senators. All noise, no substance.

By the time Buhari is done with those thieves, they would regret coming to the Senate.

For those expecting them to attempt impeaching Buhari, here you have it. Your cowardly Senators dare not go against Buhari.

In the end, they'll still disown Saraki and throw him under the bus to save their own necks.

I was expecting the national assembly to inculcate Restructuring and devolution of power to the grassroots. The aforementioned point are nothing so far it doesn't take the cognizance of changing the life of common men.
All I see is act of self interest. As for PMB the karma that will arm him still doing press up .

There is no saint in the political sphere of our dear country.
At this point, the humiliation, ridicule and molestation of rule of law and National Assembly must stop.
Having a differing opinion is one of the tenets and beauty of democracy.
Buhari has relegated the rule of law to the background due to his highhandedness and mediocrity.
Enough is enough.

My own is that why is The Senate leader from the same party at headlong with the President from same party? And this will go on and on...

Why is government fighting government but it is Nigeria who is dying.

The opposition too is nothing to write home about. Do you have to teach each other what you were elected to do? Is this the example you are laying for the upcoming leaders?

And for the first time I feel Buhari is really giving this people a tough time since it took Saraki's police summon before the National assembly can realize the plight of Nigerians.
I may have to rethink my 2019 voting options because we will need this kind of Buhari's check on the National Assembly.
Saraki needs to be impeached, that man will stop at nothing to fight back so he can cover his corrupt activities.

Saraki writes IGP:
Dear IGP, the thugs you said I hired were actually used to rig election for Buhari in 2015. If in doubt, find below the total votes by Kwarans for Buhari & Jonathan. I'm sure you will be convinced after realizing that Buhari won Jonathan by wide margin in Kwara and that was made possible by those 'good boys' you now call 'robbers'.....prof Jega Iscariot is my witness, wallahi!
The 2015 presidential election results as verified by Jega:
Buhari - 302, 146
Jonathan - 132, 602
So, in actual sense, those boys robbed Jonathan for Buhari....so, hold Buhari responsible for any robbery in Offa....after all, we all saw him & Tinubu robbing CBN before the election and we still voted him to continue robbing the country...

It is not the time now to impeach the president when election is less than a year away. If they were serious about law and order, it could have been rightly and right on time done long time ago. It is not when senators are having a tough time that the senate should think about impeachment. Any attempt to impeach the president can endanger next year's election. He will just arrest all of them and declare state of emergency or dissolve the national assembly. They are just fooling around. The president still remains the strongest man in the land and with a strong president on seat, they will just commit suicide if they attempt to impeach him.

What they should do at this time is to shelve selfish interests. The opposition and the opposition parties and opposition figures should unite for the interest of the country and the poor economy everyone is suffering from. They should put in place a convincing method to choose a genuine, young and viable northern figure (with an attractive VP candidate from the south) who will contest next year's election. All the big names should come together and work together behind the opposition candidate like APC did for 2015. With a fragmented opposition and many figures hoping to run for president, the president will win next year.

If you ask me, give it to Kwankwaso for president and Fayose for VP.

They forgot to talk about the obscene pay they allocated to themselves ( 20million Naira monthly with 200million Naira each as annual bonus) while workers are fighting to even get the 18,000.00 minimum wage. Don’t they know that injustice and tyranny they are inflicting on Nigerians May be one of the causes of banditry and mass killings?
