If you are in Lagos, you can go to NAHCO at International airport and get quotes from different agents. However, I was referred to the agent I used, and I can say that he 'get mouth'. On our way to drop the cargo off, policemen at the entrance said they wanted to inspect the things, we just called the agent, he spoke with the policemen and they let us go through immediately.

Got registered with Immigration centres and have received tremendous help there. Got a 2 bedroom apartment in the NW area for 1,300 which is ok. A friend helped me with securing that and I did not have to make payment for 3 or 6 months in advance. Just a refundable security deposit and first month rent. Like most have mentioned previously here, you will need a vehicle especially in the NW as small grocery shops and stationery stores are not easily accessible by foot. I got tremendous help with my Banking needs from a Nigerian working in a Bank. Free Banking for one year, 2,500 MasterCard limit with option of a Line of Credit etc. He says after the one year I can still transition to another free banking account without minimum balance if I want. He even helped to refer me to employers in the Finance Industry and one of them has even called me for interviews already and I only met the guy on an online forum oh. Also, like many have mentioned here previously you have to target your resumes to job postings. What else am I missing in my story? Anyways it has been a great number of days being here with no regrets (except that there is no suya here lol) . Let me know if you have any enquires I may be of help. You do not need to write any English exam for citizenship as long as you can provide transcript of your secondary or postsecondary education that shows that you studied in English.

What I would advise is that you should apply for personal copies of your transcript, scan and save on google drive or icloud and keep the hard copy with you.

I'd advice you write the IELTS, Academic in particular. I am in same situation and my wife is going to write. You never can know where you would need it. It's better you do that now and get it done with while you are still here,when you get there,you may have less time on your hands

Ive also been to CCIS and they have been of help too with regards to filing of tax/benefits etc for newcomers. The Bank was the Govt owned Bank of Alberta called ATB Financial. They really have cool products specifically for newcomers too like all the other banks but i found their own products better suited to my individual needs as an “upcoming albertan”. For the apartment i checked on Rentfaster and had my cousin help me call on my behalf.

Its uncle. No vex taken. Any successful story should be followed up by specifically how it was done. We're here to help each other out, and make the landing process as easy as possible. So I did it for you.

1. Immigration services. Immigration service Calgary will help with employment, integration, converting qualifications, etc. As mentioned you can register with them online before landing, or one can call or email them about any immigration questions. And if you're not landing in the Calgary area, they'll link you with a local immigration service anywhere in Alberta you're staying. Out of province I'm not sure. The Calgary Catholic Immigration Society (CCIS) also helps with such services as well.

I have honestly heard how lucrative and in high demand the IT Control role is , i was moved into the unit from branch control recently due to me passing the CISA exam. IT control unit, where i work is a relatively new unit and i have just worked in a sub unit for about a year.i am afraid of messing up when i get called for interview.

Did you ask if you would be charged ATM fees when you withdraw from a different bank's ATM?
ATB has very few ATMs/Branches. I would be suprised if they have up to 50 ATM terminals all over calgary. Good news is that cash as a means of transaction is no longer common, so it might still be a good or the better deal.

A general comment: Power supply in North America is 110/120V 60Hz, while Europe and most of Africa (inc. Nigeria) is 230V 50Hz. Long story short is that a lot of appliances from Nigeria (particularly items that draw significant power like microwaves and electric irons) will not work here. The sockets here are also not designed to fit the plugs from Nigeria although you can buy adapters. In some cases, you will need a small transformer that comes with an adapter. My personal opinion is that it is not worth it, but hopefully a few seniors will contribute to give alternatives or a balanced opinion.

Per the cost of items, there are loads of options to help out. In Calgary for instance, if you've got a woman in the family, you can always try Women In Need (WIN) for free goods which include mattresses (i believe they have new ones also) and all sorts of items to make a house start to look like a home, and they deliver.

Got my PR in November and went to Alberta for like a month, but still have not moved finally. I'm engaged to be married but my fiance's PR has not clicked.

I have a question tho.....when would the PR ish be revoked if I don't go till about next year December (2019). I'm planning to get married early 2019 before we both finally move to CANADA.

Not that I know of. However opportunity for employment tries to find employment from 3-6 months where you can gain experience, I’m pretty sure it’s unpaid though.

Do you have your PR Card already?...the PR rules is easy its 2 out of 5 years..you have to stay in canada for 2 years in total out of the 5 years to renew your PR, else your PR can be withdrawn..so you still have lots of time.

Please be careful with whoever you use in changing your naira to CAD (including bureau de change). We (my family) are currently still accused persons in a fraud case over the money we money we bought from a bureau de change in lagos which was transferred to our canadian account. Apparently, some yahoo boys defrauded some Canadian lady and unknown to us, we bought the money.
