Besides, will the handover date now move to 12 June or remain 29 May? Confusion.

Where they would have solved this was in 1999 and used that date ie 12th June rather than 29th May. But that opportunity is gone as any unsentimental person knows 29th May is the anniversary of Democracy in the Fourth Republic.

All this shows is that Buhari is really desperate to rein in the SW.

A political stroke borne out of desperation (It wasn't on the agenda in his first and second year but is suddenly on the menu in the third).

Whether the people from the region take it will be seen come February.

If June 12 is now Democracy day, that will mean that all office holders will unconstitutionally remain in office for about 14 days.

But if true, Buhari has really gone full scale sentimental and tokenist in a bid to secure his SW votes.

It would be remembered that this was a noble action Obasanjo refused to do.
He kicked Obasanjo in a sensitive spot.

Today the FG declared that henceforth June 12 will be regarded as democracy day. The President stated this via a statement released a while ago.
In the statement, the President also said the presumed winner of the 1993 elections will be posthumously awarded the highest title in Nigeria GCFR. The vice presidential candidate Babagana Kingigbe will also be awarded the title GCON.

Late Human Right activist Gani Fawehinmi Is also awarded the title GCON, the statement signed by the president said.
