personally i hate greyhound , the only time i entered it smelt so much (might be different now) but yes i understand as a student it good to cut cost .

For me greyhound is for short journeys , maybe if my school was like 5 hours or less bus ride but anything longer than 5 hours on greyhound then i rather fly . If you are still going to TN , then really check the price of local flights from JFK or LGA, it might be $150 or so more expensive than busing , but it quicker and easier for long journeys . Long journey with bus can mean a lot of change change as well , making it stressful

Yes oo aunty mi.. am really trying to cut cost oo. But anyway, i will look into both options closely and pickwthe one that will favour me more. However, i really can't thank you enough for spreading out all the available options for me.. Big kisses to you kiss

Share the list you have so we can see.

Your choice of school for MS Finance depends on what you want to do after graduation (Financial consulting, Private Equity, Investment Banking or trading) and where you want to work (Wall Street, New Jersey, big banks in the South or financial roles in normal companies)

Each school has its specialty in placements. So I'll advise you share the list of schools you have so we can view them.

Now, I told you to send me list of MS Finance programs you saw and I'm sad you just provided list of universities with some of them not having MS Finance programs. It will be great if you do things in a nice way so that you can get the best form of assistance you need. Let's look at the schools you listed.

UPenn - They don't have a standalone Masters in Finance. The Masters in Finance you saw there is part of their PhD program.

Ohio State - STEM program and relatively low tuition compared to most MSF programs. If you send in a decent profile (GRE 310 + decent GPA), you'll get some form of financial aid either through GA (50% tuition waiver + stipends) or monetary scholarship. As for placements, it is not a Wall Street placer but it can put you in a nice Finance role at a decent company.

NYU - Aside from their MBA program, all NYU Stern Masters programs get K-leg cos they're meant for professionals. So remove am from your list.

I'll assume you meant University of California Los Angeles (UCLA)

UCLA - UCLA does not have an MSF program. What they actually have is an MS Financial Engineering program. You need to understand that Finance and Financial Engineering are two different programs with different career paths. FE is more mathematically-inclined with some programming (mostly C++). FE leads to careers as Quant Analysts and they are very much in high demand. UCLA Anderson, UC Berkeley Haas and Columbia Fu Foundation Engineering School are among the best 15 Financial Engineering programs in the US.

UMich Ann Arbor - UMich Ann Arbor does not have an MS Finance program. It's instead offered by their Dearborn campus. I won't advise you to pay tuition for that program.

Boston College: I don't think this program is STEM. Won't advise you to apply.

UT Austin : The only STEM program at Red McCombs Business School is their MS Business Analytics. Since this is non STEM, I won't advise you to apply considering that you can get better STEM programs elsewhere.

Northwestern University : Kellogg does not have a standalone MS Finance program.

UCBerkerley Haas - As I said with UCLA, what they have is an MS FE program which is one of the best on the market.

University of Virginia : Darden does not have a standalone MS Finance. McIntire School of Commerce however has a MS Commerce program with concentration in Finance but it's not STEM. So don't apply.

Indiana University : Kelley's program is online.

University of Wisconsin : There are several Universities of Wisconsins. Specify the one you mean.

As I said earlier, you should have an idea of what jobs you want after graduation and where you want to work before choosing an MS Finance program. All programs have their area of specialty and how they place their students. Having an idea of that will help you in selecting schools that meet your needs.

Also, I should point out that most top MS Finance programs do not provide full financial aid especially those target schools with excellent placements on the Street. So if that is a priority, you should also consider that while making your choice of schools.

Forgive my typos. I wrote this in haste.

Please this is my proposed transcript, scrutinize mercilessly as I would rather get it here than from the VO
Me:Good morning
VO: good morning, pass ur i20 and passport
Me: passes them
VO : where re u heading to?
Me : Prairie View A & M university Texas, for my masters in electrical Engineering.
VO: So why PVAMU?
Me: I chose PVAMU for some reasons, the main ones being that I would love to have the opportunity to work with two professors from the university, prof obiomon and prof xianglang ,during my search for schools I was very intrigued on their approach in the fields of micro electronics where they instead of the Norm of viewing them mainly as tools in computer Engineering and telecommunications, instead utilized them for computational Biology and systems pharmacology in their various researches. In addition to this PVAMU Is well equipped with good laboratories and research centres with Notable fundings from both NASA and NIH, I Look forward to working in center for computational systems biology which is one of the six main research centers of the dept.
VO: What would this course do for u?
Me: I currently work As Junior maintenance engineer in *** pharmaceutical, this degree with a concentration in microelectronics would give me the required training in machine circuitry and also design and maintenance of electronic components such as this used in microprocessor used in control systems for manufacturing processes, this would see me rise to the position of a senior maintenance and controls Engineer. Also as because of my proposed research topic, I look forward to working with the pharmacology research team.
VO: How did u get to know about PVAMU?
Me: it was one of the schools recommended by a senior colleague ,so I then researched more about it via college sites.
VO: how many schools did u apply to?
Me: Three schools, PVAMU ,University of Louisville, UND.
VO: What have u been doing after Graduation?
Me: First I did my NYSC and then after that I got a job as a maintenance engineer at ***pharmaceutical.
VO: Who would be sponsoring you?
Me: my parents would co sponsor with my aunt and her husband
********* PS: My first degree was in mech Engineering.
please gurus take a look and highlight any loopholes or things I didn't address

Goodmorning House.

To the elders in the house please i need your advice on something.

So in my school, we are allowed to work outside campus only during summer, it was a new law that was paased by the international admission centre last summer since there are rarely no jobs available during the summer in school. So my fellow Nigerians here who pioneered the move and also enjoyed that benefit last year had been here for more than a year. I got in here in January. Fortunately for me i got a job with a telecomms company for summer internship, now the company said the university must sign the page 2 of my I 20 form and that i must have been in the Usa for atleast one year. The internship department communicated with the Homeland and securities department and they said i must have been here for a year before i can work outside campus but school says international students have the summer to themselves so they can work anywhere. Now i am a bit confused on what to do.

Incase i get another off campus job and they are not willing to pay cash, will the off campus summer pay that reflect in my record affect me when i am filing for my papers? How is it like or done in your respective schools and states?

Thanks

To the best of my understanding, your school is referring to people that started in the summer. You need to have stayed at least one year before you are qualified to take summer internships.

I don't understand you really well. Your school made a law that superceeds homeland security or what
You can't work legally off campus without work authorization, even if it is an unpaid internship. Don't make that mistake!
The second page of your i-20 is for cpt authorization.
Since you've only been in the US for less than a year, you're not eligible to go on internship.
I hope this helps?

Post the two transcripts so folks here can scrutinize.
Is it F1 visa? What school? Did you write any standardize exams? Give us more info please.

My first interview was very dry and even I was not impressed maybe because I got timid seeing 2 people denied before me. (Abuja)

VO: Good Morning
Me: Morning
VO: So you are going to Maharishi University of Management
Me: Yes I am
VO: How many Schools did you apply to
Me: 3
VO: Mention Them
Me: Devry University, University of Manitoba
VO: Why did you choose this school
Me: Because they are affordable and their course fit perfectly well (He cuts in)
VO: Who is Sponsoring you
My Father
VO: What does he do
Me: He is a welder, He is into building of Iron gates, doors and bulglary
VO: Have you ever travelled before
Me: No
VO: Are you married
Me: No

My second Interview was more Robust.
It was a raining day in Lagos that day, even the VOs came in late.

VO: Good morning
Me: morning
VO: Can you pass your I-20
Me: passed it to him
VO: so you are going to study masters in computer science
Me: yes
VO: tell me about the software's applications you have built
Me: As a software developer in financial institution; I have worked on ATM and POS dispute management application, which helps POS merchants log chargeback and get resolution on transactions failures; (the VO wasn't even looking up at all );
I also worked on Coperate expense system management, this software allows Coperate organisation manage their expenses thereby putting in place the necessary approval before fund are disbursed. In this way company expenditure can be monitored.

VO: How many did you apply to
Me: 3
VO: mention them
Me: Devry University and University of Illinois
VO: so why did you choose this school
Me: having worked for some years as a practical software developer the school course content fit perfectly well into my current experience and my future career goal; I am aiming at rising from being a mere software developer to being a software architect which will make me a valuable asset when I return back to my home country.
VO: are you married?
Me: No
VO: Can I have your account statement
Me: pass it to him
VO: {Checking and was looking through it page by page; he concentrated on it for some time; dropped it and started typing on his system; he stopped again and now started looking @ the statement flow one by one} ...stopped for a while; (my opening balance was 18000 and closing balance 1.6million; I have a financial aid assistance that requires me to only have 1.2million; it's a 6months account statement)
VO: what is the course's duration
Me: 32months
VO: am sorry; visa was denied. NO HOME tied

Please help me guys... What am I doing wrong...
I am not required to write any standardised test as the school has conducted some online test and interviews; this is also stated in my I-20 form. That I don't require any standardised test
