Hiawathia1981,
So are you more familiar with the Yoruba culture? Cause you seem to be a little knowledgeable.

It's soooo hot here....
If one wants to exercise outside, it's like one has to go out around 5:00 a.m. (BEFORE ) the sun comes out....
Cause that thing is a killer.....

The one thing about living down south is the ridiculous humidity level. It's soooo hot here....

See, everytime I think about relocating south, that heat factor stops me every time. I would rather be cold than hot.

Our friend, Martino was asking about you earlier.

Exactly....cause when it's cold, you can layer up. But with the heat, the only way to cool down...(outside) is to practically be in one's "birthday" suit...lol.
The humidity is the problem. It takes the heat level up so many degrees higher.
The only thing that scares me about the cold is the "snow" and driving in it....you know the black "ice" thing.
Re: foreigners chillout joint. by Nobody: 6:23pm On Jun 10, 2018
Do you have any challenges preparing any Nigerian food?

Actually, driving in snow is not that bad. As long as your tires are good and you drive slowly, there is good traction.also driving with 4 wheel drive helps alot. Driving on ice freaks me out bc like you said there is no stopping bc there us no traction.

Ive not made it to that far yet. Im still at the admiration stage.

Being Nigerian American, did your household eat an equal diet of Nigerian and American food? Or was it one side more than the other?

I saw a Ford Expedition do a literal 360 degree turn on a busy Chicago highway and when it stopped it was facing the traffic! It happened to be at nighttime...and thank God there were no cars traveling at the time...
That truck could not be stopped....it was completely powerless.
I saw this on the news.....while visiting a relative in Chicago several years ago, but that image has stuck in my mind.

Ive slid on black ice once and ended up on the road into a deep ditch. I was traumatized for a while. I spun too. What I did wrong and possible him too was when you begin to slide, ride the slide out and or turn the wheel very subtly into the opposite direction.
Turning abruptly makes it work.

I understand....
Well...we definitely ate way more American food than Nigerian food... simply because my mother was American and did all of the cooking.....
However, she did make lots of "egusi" and "ogbono" soup with fufu! We also had African "stew" a lot.
I'm gonna try to make "akara" balls....(which are made out of beans).

shocked
See that's what scares me and I tell you angels were watching over you....
I think sometimes going into "panic" mode is what makes people NOT do what we are told to do in accident situations like that.
I absolutely love to drive.....and would hate to have anything keep me from doing it.

Definitely, bc when I swerved I went across 2 lanes. It was only God that kept me from hitting someone else or them hitting me. I have alot to be thankful for.

So are you addicted to Nairaland by now...lol?
Re: foreigners chillout joint. by Nobody: 6:41pm On Jun 10, 2018
Yes,I confess.
I might need intervention. But I dont really do other social media, so that is my excuse.

Lol....Oh, so you aren't into Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram? Wow.... really?.
Just kidding.....this is the only social media that I do ...and I know I'm too addicted....intervention needed for me as well.

I know the owner won't do this...but it may help us addicted people by only being able to view the site if we log-on.
Cause I think what makes it really nice is that one can read the threads without logging on....so one can check it all day!

Yes. I keep a browser up on my phone and just refresh it.
Yeah, social media isn't really for me. I just actually completed a fb page and that was to prove I was a real person. But then it was a slippery slope bc I didnt have enough pictures or friends to prove that I was indeed real. Before then, it was just used for spying purposes.

Well...as confident as I am in loving to cook, I am a little hesitant with making Nigerian food.
I am currently working on perfecting "egusi" and "ogbono" soups because they are extremely popular, can be made in larger quantities and is tasty if made correctly.
I know people would be happy with that as a meal.
