I don’t want to keep dragging this car issue. To each their own. The amusing thing is that it’s even the least of my monthly outgoings. I pay much more on my mortgage and childcare than the “chicken change” that goes towards the car. I work too hard and I earn too well to be driving a tokunbo. cool

Again I stress on affordability. If one can afford it, there’s absolutely nothing wrong in driving a brand new car every three years.

May God bless us all. Amen.

You 100% right, lets not drag this car thing out but I think you are on the wrong thread.

Most people on this thread want to be more frugal with their money and need down to earth advice.

Sometimes I feel like showing myself, sell my car and buy something new, you know...parking assist, lane maintaining and all the papas in these new cars, but my dream car is probably the new E class with the double iPad speedometer

I am still thinking of my dream car...... I have a few on that list.....

Audi A7
Porsche Panamera
BMW M6
Mercedes S630

Dreams Dreams Dreams......

It is not your duty to tell me which thread to be on or not.

I have given down to earth advice to many on this thread and I do not know where you have suddenly jumped out from. If my posts gives you headache, please ignore. The car talk was never directed to you in the first place. Jeez!!

I think everyone on here has contributed well from their own experiences, giving invaluable advice.

Every opinion should be welcomed,it's left for the reader to take the one they like and discard the rest.

The beauty of this thread is the varied economic strata represented and that is the reality of life, some are rich, some middle, some poor.

I'm always interested in reading especially from those more well off than me so i can double my hustle if possible & learn from them.

Many have invested well, many know about financial markets etc

My own is to be inspired as the only way for me and my family is up!

I will not rest shaa till combined income in my home is 20k or more after taxes grin grin grin grin grin grin..

That’s it @ bolded.

Buying a new car is quite a popular choice for many (both migrants and non-migrants), so I am surprised someone is taking offence with my suggestion.

Honestly, if you can afford it go for brand new. Do your search. It is not as expensive as people tend to perceive. Some manufacturers offer 0% interest and even pay a contribution towards the deposit.

With a new car, you pay no road tax for the first year, no MOT payments for three years, some manufacturers even throw in free annual motor servicing.

Fatima04,
How far?Did you finally move scot?

Mamatukwas how's it going?

@all
We are moving down south in a few months!! So scared and excited! I love this place but we have to go with the cheese.I hear things are more expensive especially in the KSS area but we will be fine..fingers crossed.

Still haven't bought the house because of this move. The houses i'm seeing around the area are from 5-6 huns for 4 bed grin grin grin grin I pity myself.

Have learnt from old mistakes, have very good credit history, using the credit card for payments and always pay back etc etc.

Since it's a new area we've never been to,we plan to rent first and then buy in 3-6 months.

Don't be angry bro...our mileage varies. It will be foolish to compare brand new car to fairly used. If I am a permie I will be driving a brand new SQ7 but I hate the fact I have to budget for financing a car during bench time...this is why I prefer to get a fairly used car. Mind you some fairly used cars are more expensive and durable than brand news, its all relative.

But to advise you guys who want to buy a very cheap car, if you have been stranded on a b-road on a cold night where AA takes 5 hrs to reach, you will think twice, most especially with kids.

You only live once...enjoy life!

Ehen meanwhile between us... I have an international drivers license being sent to me this week.. seeing as I already have a provisional U.K. License will it affect my record if I'm caught driving with the Intl one? Or since I'm legally allowed to use it no shaking? I don't want to do anything that will affect my records but oga feels it's no biggie. He plans to drive with his Intl one for 1 year.

Your date stamped arrival on your passport, must be under one year and you must also inform your insurance company....

Assuming you get stopped and required to produce, you would be required to submit your passport and intl DL together......

Some crafty dealers and private sellers would not tell you about the insurance history, till you attempt to make an insurance claim and your insurance company refuses to payout......

You guys are awesome. The OT from this thread alone is enough to guide a rookie to mastery level.

From my deductions so far, getting a mortgage is always the sure fire. It never goes out of style. Albeit, getting a car also is important. As long as you can afford to maintain it, then you should be in the clear.

If you have the bar , by all means, get you a car your spirit will be happy driving but I don't think people actually get bothered with what kinda car you're driving here (I may be wrong).

Was it not one day in London that I saw an Aventerdor parked behind a golf GTi. Imagine such insult.

If yes, how were you able to get on it without being UK or EU citizen?

Indeed the only person that cares about what you drive, is YOU & YOUR pocket.........

You could be driving a 2018 vehicle, while your Boss is driving a 2008 vehicle (he that wears the shoes......)

A banger or tear rubber, you are not meant to exceed 70MPH on the motorway and as low as 20MPH in certain places (average speed camera would clock you + fine + points imposed)......
