I will quote it anyday anytime anywhere, I've been driving for 15 years and I've not had any major ish, it's God's grace and driving SKILLS

How many drivers are having accidents upandan? Less than 3%

Okay partner will wait say 2 years on ROI, lazy youths wait 5 years doing nothing so anybody can wait. Besides I put it in quote that time driving upandan, that's why partner is not driving the car him/herself or probably doesn't have the energy/strenghth/ruggedness to do it which the driver also brings.

Yes sir, driver brings something, many things. Owner only brings money (car) grin

So my grandpa says

driving skills ke...please don't quote this outside o... driving skills and drivers don't know about driving management ...having accidents upandan...

when u talk on Time... the partner is hit more... do u have a idea of how much time it takes on ROI? drivers time is calculated to best possible reach (peak period - off peak ). partner time is calculated with uncertainty. Abeg no make me talk too much this morning ... na money I wan find so

If Driver's skills is not important. Why is every partner asking for drivers with experience with evidence of previous work done?

No car, no driver.

Take your time to watch those programs for people with ideas pitching ideas to people with money to invest.

Ideas or skills are nothing without money to execute them.

If you have been in business you will appreciate this.

In business money is nearly everything.

Money can buy ideas, ideas cannot succeed without money.

Give respect to money and those who have it.

Someday you might be in their shoes and will feel their pain

experience and driving skills different ... very different

experience asked about by partners is more related to earnings and not driving skill... u don see any partner quote driving skills? wink

To buttress your point.

If all you bring on the table is driving skills and time remember Uber and other car manufacturers are currently testing driverless car. Once the system is perfected what do you think we happen to your driving skills and time.

Don't be like the old typist who was very good with typewriter but refuse to upgrade his skills when computer was launched.

Never stay static, the same Google map you now use for navigation in Lagos was developed in America/Europe now you are using it in the city of Lagos. Same Uber was developed in Europe, now you use it in Lagos.

So it is just a matter of time, before you know that you need to upgrade and now is the best opportunity for you to do so because now car owners need drivers.

In terms of investment, Drivers gain on the short term whereas the Car Owner gain on the long term.

So if you are a driver now, your plan is to upgrade to become a car owner because you can't be a driver forever, if you don't leave driving, driving will leave you. So you need to start preparing for the day, driving will leave you.

Cheers

Its been a long read so far but also Educative. Please i have a few practical questions;

I am based in Lagos but i currently work in the East. I am planning to resign and move back to Lagos so that i can focus on my budding business.

I am planning to start Uber/Taxify on the side......... (I don't have a car yet), so i am intending to take a car on HP.

Of course, I cannot survive on my business yet as its still at its infant stage. Hence me wanting to start Uber.

From experience, do you guys think its a good idea to resign and start Uber?? This is cus i also feel it will afford me opportunity and time to also run my personal hustle

I pray those driverless cars can identify potholes, out smart danfo drivers for Lagos, and have a rodit that can hold danfo drivers or trailer wey bash the car... Else insurance won't accept comprehensive claims on those cars

For most people. Uber/Taxify is a temporary business.

Buy a car, get a good driver and keep your job.

Only existing drivers will tell you the truth about the business. It isn't easy. Buh we are doing it and meeting up.

I'm doing better than most I met on the field doesn't make it that rosy.

From experience I do average of 135k when I started. Of recent I do below 110k ... Note all gross earnings

While many do hardly make above 90k a week. These are drivers that when they do,. They will be so happy to screenshot that achievement and when ever they are back to below 90k, they either mute or disappear from the thread

SweetJoystick:
Uber/Taxify registered drivers needed for car rental purpose, Toyota camry 2005 model. Driver should be resident in Lagos, preferably on the mainland (Ojota, Berger, Ikeja, Ogba, Agege)

Interested drivers will be required to make upfront payment for the first week to show commitment.

Interested drivers should send a mail or quote with his phone number.

You have to remember i don't have all the facts of the situation, only that which you have written.

I understand you want a big piece but it's important to not bite more than you can chew.

First, resigning your job is a really big step, many have done it and prospered and many have done it and tanked. The difference usually is, how prepared were you before you resign. I mean savings, rent security , contacts and whatever else you may need while you are transitioning between phases.

Be sure you are ready before you leave your current job.
You don't want to resign and then get desperate. Get as much as possible in place before you resign.

You say, your business is budding and you cannot survive on the proceeds right now, so I assume you are not making a lot of money from that just yet.

Your business will surely need cash infusions once in a while.
And so will your Hire Purchase, from time to time you may need to put your own money in it. Not yet talking about personal and family expenses.
That might be too many things tugging at you.

With hire purchase, of course you will make money, but the margins might be very very small considering the terms in HP.
Not saying HP is bad, you are going to be taking on great responsibilities with it. And we on this thread want you to succeed.

I would have said;

Resign your job, come to Lagos and find a rental contract for the first 3-6 months. So you can understand the terrain and also to give your business some time to grow. Then after that, you can look for hire purchase.

Right now, you can busy yourself with:
-How to establish your business in Lagos after resigning.
-Getting a driver's license.
-Learning how ride sharing works(you can go through all 700 pages of the thread or you can learn from Taxi App guy, we also teach you how to ace the Uber exams).
-Getting ride share contacts (drivers, partners etc).

When you are sure of all these, then make the switch.

But...

Your plan or proposed step is either a Sucide Mission or a step towards Greatness.

You current job, how much do you earn and what are the prospect.

What's your buddy business all about?

What is your backup plan, if the Uber thing didn't go as planned?

Is it remotely possible for you to raise money enough to buy a car instead of adding more pressure on yourself doing HP on Uber.

Doing HP on Uber, is business on its own because you can't afford to default in your agreed payment to the car owner.

Have you considered the expenses you would incurred during your HP period.

You need to gather more relevant information from people currently doing HP on Uber to understand if your next step is a step towards greatness or a suicide mission.

My One Cent.

Well, my current job is just one that you do not to go hungry....... If i continue in the job for another 2 years and i am on salary alone, i probably wouldnt be able to buy a car for the business after i eat, pay rent and sort bills.

The current plan is to make up some cash for the next few months, infuse part of it into my business and keep the rest for some rainy days while i get started on Uber.

Someone mentioned Rental Contract and i would really love to know how that works and if its the best for me as a newbie while i learn the ropes further.

I am trying to gather as much info as i can and learn a few things before i take the Dip into the pool.

I sure know its not gonna be easy, buy i think its better trying that being stuck in same position for years with salary that probably wont get u anywhere

Na wa for all these my people o!

How can you say driver brings nothing to the table?

If that where really true, then every partner would be driving themselves.

It's like a husband saying a sit at home house wife brings nothing to the table.

And please don't let us trivialize time. It is a fact of life money always flows to people who have the time to do what you dont have the time to do, regardless of if you know how or can do it yourself

You always end up paying for that time.

So if I can change my engine oil myself, but decide to pay a mechanic to do it.. I need to understand what and why I'm paying for it. I shouldn't come and say afterall, it's just to change oil, so the mechanic is bringing nothing to the table.

And funny thing is the Gazzuz that I know, you can't go to his workshop for an oil change and tell him afterall, it's just to change oil, that you will pay 1k grin he will pursue you with cane and tell you to go do it yourself grin tongue
