One Dr. Ajibola from the Accident and emergency unit, ondo state trauma and surgical centre has decided to pour wound irrigation fluid on a nursing officer, Nrs. Oladele Olayinka of the same institution at about 11:30pm on Saturday 9th of June 2018.

Nrs. Oladele was said to have sent a porter to the pharmacy to get drugs for a patient but instead of the porter to finish this delegated task, he was hijacked by the doctor who delegated another task for him, the Nurse after waiting for his return with no success eventually got to know of the development from a medical student.

This angered the nurse, went to where the said porter was carrying out the new task assigned by the doctor and demanded that the porter should go back to complete the previously delegated task while she offered to continue the care of the patient with the doctor.

Instead of the doctor acceding to this, he resulted to calling the Nurse all sort of abusive names and verbal assaults. As if this wasn’t enough, he took the wound irrigation fluid and pour on the Nurse in the presence of the patient and other members of staff.

According to the report made available to fellow Nurses Africa, no disciplinary action has been taken on this doctor 5 days after this incident however, the National Association Of Nigerian Nurses And Midwives, NANNM of the hospital is working on the said issue to ensure the mater is not swept under carpet like cases of assaults against Nurses had always been.

The nurse has also made an official report through the Director of Nursing services to the management of the institution.

Nurses are too callous in this country. A nurse has no right to ask a porter working for a Doctor to leave no matter the excuse. Nothing will happen to that Doctor as the nurses refused to disclose the whole truth.

So decided to behave like a maniac he is by bathing his supposed coworker with fluid containing a mixture that is equal to the effluent from a mummified cadaver, a fluid that will make a healthy adult man to vomit for days on end. Fluid that contains different kinds of contaminants and pathogens- HIV, flesh eating bacterias to mention but a few.

He should be locked up, suspended and his license withdrawn till futher notice. He is a threat to both the patient, his coworkers and his environment.
In a sane environment, he should be behind bars, cuffed and awaiting arraignment to court.

Whatever prompted the reaction is no longer important as the fact remains that a trained professional reacted adversely even to the verge of physical assault which is totally unacceptable in the medical community.
What happened to reporting to superiors.? Well reporting will work against him seeing that he was caught using a porter who is not trained to performed or assist in the procedure. What type of quackery is this that a certified medical doctor will allow a porter to perform clinical duties in a government hospital of all places with him observing? This is how they breed quackery everywhere. Killing the unsuspecting public.
When are we going to get things right in this country?
When you are reprimanded for doing things wrongly and jeopardising the life of the patient you react like a wounded bulldog?

What a waste of space and school fees

Anybody who swept this case under the carpet will soon receive more humiliation than this.

It is the duty of the nurse to dress wound so why is the doctor usurping that role? What is Dr know it all doing irrigating the wound the nurse is supposed to irrigate instead of minding his own goddamn duties.? Is there no other duties for the doctor to perform or he probably forgot and think it is fun to irrigate wounds.?

This is the beginning of a new trend. Watch out for aggressive assaults on doctors in days to come if nothing is done. This case is one of a whole lot more that plagues our hospitals. Doctors slapping pharmacists, and lab scientists even assaulting practically anybody in the hospital which will ultimately be swept under the carpet because their henchmen is at the helm of affairs. Get this fact right. The ward porters works directly under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Read through your hospital organogram and try to educate yourself for once. The nurse instructed her subordinate to leave and he left. Your colleague could not take it since he believes everyone in the hospital works for him. It was too much for him and he went rabid. The nurse has already offered her assistance but the egomaniac is hellbent on causing mayhem and injury.
You can even call nurses nursery school dropout to massage your bruised ego but be rest assured that the table is seriously shaking and the unbalanced NMA at the top is going to fell very soon.
FYI, we have more degree holders in nursing now than diplomas.
