MOROCCO : AFRICA BETRAYED US IN THE WORLD CUP 2026 POLL.

Morocco FA president said in an interview they felt betrayed by other African countries that voted for the US against them in the 2026 worldcup bid.

Morocco’s hopes of hosting the 2026 World Cup foundered on the failure to secure a united African vote as the country lost in its fifth attempt to stage the global event, the north African country’s bid team said on Wednesday.


Eleven African countries voted for the joint North American bid of the U.S., Canada and Mexico, who will host the 2026 finals after a 134 to 65 vote triumph in a poll of FIFA member associations at the Congress of world soccer’s governing body.

“We were very hopeful but, at the end of the day, if you lose a certain number of votes from your own continent, and from some of our Arab brothers, who flipped coins, then you have no chance,” said Morocco bid ambassador .NAN reports that Morocco lost the hosting rights to Canada, U.S. and Mexico, who presented a tripartite bid. Morocco polled 65 votes against 134 votes polled by the three North American nations to emerge winners. The voting which was done at the 68th FIFA Congress in Moscow had 200 out of 211 FIFA member-nations participate in the balloting. The 2026 World Cup will be the largest senior global soccer fiesta with 48 countries playing in 80 matches. (NAN)

They are: Benin, Guinea, Liberia, Mozambique, Namibia, Sierra Leone, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Morocco never voted for SA in 2002 but voted for Germany.

I love Nigeria. I know we are not doing too well, but you can't cow us into submission on the basis or bait of "aids" . Remember when we passed the anti-gay law? We called their bluff and the law is still in place despite their threat.

Morocco really had a strong showing. Divide what the unity bid( US/canada/Mexico) got by 3 and you'd see that on individual ground, Morocco came top.

Again, Morocco came into the race late and this worked against them.

Another thing the joint bid used to sway fifa delegates was the fact that they projected a bigger revenue of over $ 11 billion dollars while Morocco gave $6 billion revenue projections.

The joint bid claims to have the infrastructure, while Morocco plans on building new ones. This was seen as risky.
