Wow...

You mean you just admitted you're weaker than a man because your psyche has been affected by years of mental conditioning, just because you want to defend your madam? shocked

Who are you and what have you done with the real Mindfulness please? cheesy

In the West, where the interview was conducted, the idea of chivalry stem from a time where women were indeed in weaker positions. Fairy tales, which little girls all across the Western world grew up with, had a Princess and a Knight/King, who eventually saved her, as their main protagonists. While you may think that this is romantic cheesy , anyone with an ability to read between the lines, understands the gender roles that are enforced by such tales and how they affected the female psyche. wink

Just that she never discouraged men from doing it. Quite the contrary.

Don't try to make light of the situation jor.. You have been honest for once about how you really feel.

You like the idea of a man taking control of your body and spirit, throwing you on a bed and burying his face deep in between your legs. You want him to treat you like a princess, his fragile ladybird.. all this because you are just weak compared to him with all his raging testosterone.

Don't worry I understand, it's nothing to be ashamed of Princess. gringrin

Feminism like Christianity and Islam are imported concepts. Trust Nigerians to abuse those concepts. Adichie is a true Nigerian. Being more white than the whites themselves.

Arguments could be made for or against. My own is, why is it okay for Yoruba Nigerian to ask Igbo Nigerians to go back to your region, and not an American asking a Nigerian to go back to her country
Re: Chimamanda Should Return To Her Country And Speak On Gender Mutilation by bukatyne(f): 10:18am On Jun 16, 2018
Hmmmmmmmmm

Chiamanda making an issue of their chivalry system (what's left of it) is akin to an American speaking against women kneeling to greet their husbands.

A native who is familiar with the genesis of the culture is best suited to speak against it.

I always associated chivalry to women as weakness (i have no issues with chivalry) so after her interview on Chivalry, I went back to dig and interestingly, it was said that it was a code of conduct expected from knights and fine-tuned by Christianity/the Church (organization).

To be honest, some chivalry acts called romantic are stemmed from perceiving the woman as physically weaker.... placing her on the innermost side of the road, giving her your coat when cold, opening the car doors, drawing out a chair etc.

This perceived physical weakness hasn't stopped same man from expecting dinner when they both return from work or handling chores when they both have busy lifestyles.

One wedding photograper explained the gesture of moving wives to the left of the husband after the joining as the man should place his wife at his left hand side to shield her while the right hand is free to defend her. Others have interpreted it as symbolizing a wife's submission/inferiority to the husband. Samething, same gesture, different meaning.

@ Cinderella stories, well, they depict the traditional roles which people still expect today without the perks of the rich husband and woman staying at home.

As for her passiveness, domesticity and patience. .... are all virtues women all over are still expected to have.

Chiamanda just take a break do it doesn't become a case of empty barrels make the most noise.

When you have something to opine about everythin, our opinions would start to count for little even when they are weighty.

Same reason why it's okay for black people to call each other 'Nigga' but when a white man does, it becomes a sensational headline.

Mental slavery stemming from a subconscious racial inferiority complex.

It is true na.

We are not privy to the genesis.

I was surprised when I read that it had to do with knighthood not even romance or expected of all men.

The populace just adopted it as aspiring to be knights at least in their own sphere of influence.

And the match is ovvvvveeeeeeer!

A draw!

Woaw!

Greater fighting chance for Nigeria.

Honestly, I believe I was one of the few Messi fans who was happy when he wasted that penalty kick. I didn't even know I was this patriotic to my country.

How market? angry angry angry grin

To think that we were permutating to ensure that Nigeria had a fighting chance.

Our juju nor reach their own.

We helped an acclaimed better team beat us. They didn't even score a goal by thenselves.

Their goalie also didn't catch any shot throughout the match.

Chai!

Anyways we have two fashion awards under our belt.

Which is probably why they were playing as if it was an international friendly - no zeal, no fighting spirit, no enthusiasm...with the exception of Moses though who also over-did it by continuously diving to win a spot kick.

I don't even know what Mikel's job was in that game. undecided
