Whenever I come across divisive topic like this, I aways feel pain in my chest. If only people can live and let live and work to forge a peaceful and progressive future for all. I believe I can speak for post-civil-war yoruba generation. That generation were not taught all these internecine hate-filled narrative. All I can remember was that Igbos were decimated and should be encouraged in all facets ( I can remember a man then that had almost 12 children, while people were castigating Yoruba family with more than five children, they supported and justified the man decision). Other tribes were just neighbours with different tongues. This was my belief until at university in 90's when some Igbo friends poured out bile continously in my prescence. The irony of it is that their parents were living in Ibadan and they, their family and properties were never threatened during or after the war according to them. Till today, I will not teach my children hatred, but, I know, some Yorubas are not taken it. lightly.

So true. Growing up I never heard even one negative thing said about igbos by my parents or any of their generation. We were taught to sympathise with them, encourage them and admire them for what they went through in the civil war.

Its so sad to realise that the parents on the other side were busy breeding hatred and training their children to despise the Yoruba's.

And forget those that say it's just online. It's not. They just keep it well hidden.

Stop posting trash on public forum. No Igbo family is taught to hate Yorubas. An average Igbo family has no time for that.

Would Awolowo have supported Nigeria if your mthrfvkng warlord had not entered into Yorubaland with boots and guns?

Hausa declared war on you and killed you. Yet you were bringing war into Yorubaland. Did your ragtag biafra not know difference between North and West? Why should Awo not support blockade, if the same shyyte repeat today and you ignore North to bring war into West your situation this time around will be worse than that in 67.

Bloody punk!

Are you saying the reason Awolowo pitched his tent with North against Biafra is because the Igbos entered Yoruba land?

Now it's clear you are ignorant and you proudly wear it as a badge on your chest.

Before the Biafran army invaded Midwest and on to the south west till they were stopped at Ore, the Yorubas as a nation had not given support to the war effort, save for a few Yoruba men who were in the ry and government.
Places like UI and other institutions in Ibadan still kept Igbo friends safely and the rest of the Yoruba country were sympathetic to the Igbo's cause.
But when the few Igbos left in SW under the safe keep of their Yoruba friends started rejoicing openly on hearing that Ojukwu's planes raided Lagos, Gen Ade Yinka Adebayo had to order that they be removed from the institutions where they were. And attacking Ore got the Yoruba people angry and the support for the war against Biafra became natural.

If Igbos had remained at the east fighting for survival, who knows, there may have been several Yoruba mercenaries who would have gone in to fight outhe of sympathy for them. Financial aid and secret support would have gone their way from well meaning and sympathetic Yorubas

But....

And at the moment like this, I always appreciate our parents that taught and inculcate in us 'no hatred for anyone'.
