Oh please! It would be a big mistake - a huge mistake, to write Argentina off. Remember South Africa 2010? Spain, the eventual winners, lost their first game. Like I told Safarigirl, we're only in the first innings ... there are still more games to go.

O pari

The Argentina I saw not only can be beaten but they can also not make it to the next round. Football is not about who can keep the ball the longest it is about getting the ball in the net. I believe the template has been set, get extra men on Messi and let the rest beat you if they can. Iceland were lucky but luck is part of the game.

Welcome back Big Sir Terzurum5.... Missed you, we have.... cheesy

A big thank you to everyone who has kept faith with this dream.

I am relatively new here.

Almost everyone character seems new to me.

I had been away for long. But as I promised, I have come back before the real game will kick off.

I have high expectations from these Super Eagles because we have invested a lot into this project.

I do not expect a very beautiful display from the Eagles.
However, I did love to see a firm display and character of a champion from the lads.

Eagles are not always known to play well in the opening games in most tournaments of this magnitude.
Nevertheless, I expect a win, at least a draw. But even if we loose, which I pray not to, I did still be hopeful of something positive from the ever ready and hungry Super Eagles.

Go Eagles, we are behind thee.

Messi weak oo, small thing na to cry grin grin grin

You don't understand.

It feels bad not to be able to carry your team through most especially when their hopes rest on your shoulders.

See the way Ronaldo single handedly carried Portugal against Spain. Same way the greats of old; Maradona, Pele and co. carried their teams to the trophy.

If Messi is going to be reckoned as the greatest ever, he has to carry this team to the final and win the cup. Sadly this may be his last opportunity.

He knows all these. That's why he cried.

Denmark VS Peru could be a cracker to watch out for. Having watched Peru pre tournament, they play scintillating football with short smart passes, very tidy team. I love them

The Ronaldo-Messi Rivalry is the stuff of legends...

From @OptaJoe:

7 - Lionel Messi (11) attempted seven shots more than Cristiano Ronaldo (4) on the opening matchday of the 2018 World Cup, but the Portuguese scored three goals compared to Messi's none. Rivals.

Balogun ain't gonna play in this match, he's not fully fit and shouldn't be risked, hence I expect Rohr to play Omeruo, Ekong and Ogu in the 3-Man Defence.

Tyrone and Idowu as wingbacks, Mikel and Ndidi Pivot with Iwobi as a No. 10 in the Midfield. Then I wouldn't mind the Combo of Moses and Iheanacho upfront.
who told you guys that we are playing 3-5-2

with Mikel saying that they knew what they were doing during the friendlies and that right now they have to switch and play the way they've always played i dont see no 3-5-2 at least not from the beginning of the match.

I believe Argentina vs Iceland result is a blessing in disguise to Nigeria. why;
1) Iceland might feel too confident facing Nigeria which can in turn shock them
2) Nigeria is now aware what Iceland can do, so they will approach d game with more seriousness.
3) we now know Argentina is not as tough as we thought.. we can still manage to curtail them

As Peru-Denmark kicks off.... Note...

From @OptaJoe:

14 - Top scorer (11) and assist provider (3) for Denmark during the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, Christian Eriksen was directly involved in 56% of his team’s goals. Six of his 11 goals came from outside the box. Vital. #PER #DEN #WorldCup #PERDEN

He’s taken over from Martin Tyler as the best. But Derek Rae and Ian Darke aren’t far behind.
Here, Fox Sports has John Strong and Stuart Holden as the main commentators.
those names don't ring a bell. Perhaps because we're not used to fox sports here.

Did you watch the game at all?

This Argentine team that attacked Iceland for 95 good minutes.

Iceland would have their astute defending and goalkeeper to thank. The Nigerian defense and Goalkeeper would have crumbled if kept under such persistent pressure.

Argentina have a very good team and they played very well.
