The first three prototypes for test and evaluation will arrive sometime this year. Throw in the F-7N into the mix and suddenly you have a pretty descent Air Force that has teeth.

These are strategic assets. Together with the JF-17. This is the underbelly of the Nigerian Air Force and will be the next sector for major upgrades.
When you defeat Boko Haram, then we will take your projections very serious.

JF-17 has been paid for you must know. Its not matter of if, but WHEN its delivered. In the interim the F-7N and Alpha light attack jets are doing a remarkable good job against an enemy that does not have an airforce.

Frontline Assets

JF-17+Super Tucano+F-7NI

Light attack/Secondary Assets

Alpha Jet+Aero L-39+

SSGN is right, the only area South-Africa has a clear advantage over Nigeria is in front line fighter jets.
You know you talking shiiit right there is more to a airforce then just frontline fighters you of all people should know this or are you jumping on this foolish argument here with these fanboys Henry.

At least 15 members of the Afghan security forces were killed early on June 11 2018 in an attack by Taliban militants on their security post in the northern province of Kunduz, officials say.

How is Britain the architect of Nigeria's mess?
It's all about the amalgamation. Nigeria should never have happened. The British forced together disparate ethnic groups that have very little in common; deep cultural differences.
That is why we need to restructure, to correct the mistake made by the British. But the enemies of progress would not allow that. So we remain stagnant. You can go on dreaming about overtaking South Africa, but it will remain a dream until we correct the structural mistake of the past.

They don't have an aircraft like the Tucano or a unit like the Nigerian Air Force Regiment.

There are areas where they are better than us, there are also areas were we are better than them.

I don't think the South-African Air Force has an advantage over the Nigerian Air Force. I agree for their navy, but not the Air Force.
The Tucano is a old 3rd world crop duster sold to 3rd world nations with insurgency problems its becoming a useless platform when you look at the proliferation of manpads.

You can try to fool these boys here with your nonsense but not me. SAAF has a big advantage when it comes to air power including attack capabilities currently. Nigeria don't even have a credible conventional strike capability nor even a AD system in it's arsenal to take on Uganda currently.

The day Nigeria can field a world class made in Nigeria AAM missile in its AF that's the day I will take you seriously.

Seriously ?

From where did u arrive at this conclusion

Much before the 80s they had build their own fighter aircraft.

And according to u they had not built a reliable Keke in the same period when they had build the same in the early 70s.

In 1980 they were launching their own satellites from their own space rockets .

R & D on technology and science is a continuous process , first u got to learn to walk before u can run. They cannot be be simply developed in a matter of years. They need to be invested in the scale of decades before u can even start reaping the benefits.
U got establish the core competency first , invest in manpower and facilities , then mature the developed technology and then productionize the same , all these takes decades not years.

And brahmos is a cruise missile not a ICBM.

Who would have tought it possible a decade ago. If anyone had told you in 2010 Nigeria would operate armed drones you would have thought that person was a retard.
Brahmos is a multi purpose cruise missile.

There r many varients

1. Ship to ship (AShM)
2. Ship to surface (land attack)
3. Surface to ship (coastal defense)
4. Surface to surface (land attack)
5. Air to surface (air launched from fighters)

Another ignorant rubbish. The US NAVY SEALS are armed to the teeth with SuperTucanos, the so-called crop dusters, a plane that can level a small town with 3,300 pounds of weapons and the latest high-tech sensors, radar, warning systems and surveillance and frontlines attack capabilities.

In fact, the topic is not about the NAF being better than SAAF, they are projected to be better by 2020 based on their current build-up strategy so learn how to read and comprehend and stop making needless comparison. If by 2020 they are not up to par with SA, then feel free to run your mouth.

Btw, Tucanos are great against insurgencies so why is it a surprise or a negative that we are getting the best platform against the insurgency in Nigeria?

Countries build up based on their own local and regional challenges, not according to other country's platforms.

Some of you just criticize with ZERO sense or thoughtful rational, you try to sound intelligent but you end up sounding ignorant

Nigeria's national strategy is the very reason Nigeria has prioritized ISR/ISTAR platforms over 4th generation aircraft in the interim dude. attack drones, helicopter gunships, surveillance planes are of greater relevance today given the threat environment than a Squadron of new F-16's. Surely a country that acquires quite a number of attack drones and the continents most advanced ISTAR platforms can expand its combat aircraft fleet at anytime of its choosing. In times of austerity priority has to be made. You cannot modernize all classes of Air Force at the same time.
I have no problem with NAF upgrading, it's long overdue and current chief of air staff is progressive. The question is why the zero sum game pronouncements? Why are we keen to overtake anyone, when we're not anywhere close to full combat capability? Let them run their race, let's run ours. Ethiopian airlines didn't set out to overtake Nigeria airways, have they not left the continent behind? Just an analogy.

Or is it possible for SA to rent out F-16s that they don't have?

The fact that many of you love to run your mouth and let us know how much you hate Nigeria doesn't mean you hav e to do so with ignorance.
If you'd not been too hasty to show patriotic fervour, you'd have known that my inference to SA renting out hardware and mercenaries is clearly black market operations, not officially authorised.
Secondly, you can show your LOVE for Nigeria without being a jerk-off, they're not mutually exclusive. You counter every contrary opinion here with abuse where you can just share a more superior argument.

Setting and pronouncing goals sometimes motivates to attain your goals and it makes no difference if pronounced or not as long as your goals and objectives are met

NAF of today is not your old NAF or like any other AF in Africa, because their goals are well beyond flying and dropping bombs, this AF is programmed to be a full-service fighting force from airmen and women to special forces and their own ground troops to take to the battlefield, they a specialized anti-terror K-9 unit (ironically, they trained in SA)

Just last week, they accomplished Nigeria's first In-House TOTAL overhaul of Mi-35P by the 115 Special Operations Group in Port Harcourt. Meaning we won't be importing and spending money to bring in technical experts to repair our assets. This is even a tech know-how and transfer.

Personally, I appreciate the fact they are open about their objectives and if gives proud Nigerians like me something to look forward and be proud of and going by their activities lately, they are doing a great job and I see a determined and very professional organization.

1. You said SA, not mercenaries from SA and even sef, no mercenaries under the surface if the earth has access to F-16s, so you still fell short and still grossly wrong.

2. What exactly do we need F16S for at the moment? Do we need F6s to fight BH? Or we are getting ready to fight and destroy Ghana or the rest of our neighbors? you build capacities based on needs and challenges, not just because you feel like or spending money on what you really don't need.

BH is our primary threat in Nigeria and Tucanos and Mi-35s are more than enough to deal with BH.

3. You need to look in the mirror for the so-called jerk-off since you are do not have the capacity to debate basic issues with tact, facts and knowledge. Tocanos according to you are crop dusters 3rd world countries with insurgency issues buy when in fact the best fighting and military force in the world, the US NAVY SEALS.

How the Navy SEALs transformed the Tucano into a Super Tucano
U.S. Navy SEALs often identify the very best technology and then trailblaze with it.

The SEALS spotted the potential of the Tucano and fought hard for it to be adopted to provide better close air support, transforming it into the Super Tucano.

The birth of the A-29B Super Tucano and an aircraft that would prove the SEALS right time and again downrange. It performed so well that the Super Tucano stable grew.

The Super Tucano is a great example of how Navy SEAL teams quietly revolutionize how tech is used to provide critical advantages. Thanks to their early adoption, innovations sometimes eventually make their way into hands of wider American forces equipping them with better advantages too.

According to a source close to the program who declined to be named, the Navy has leased an EMB-314 Super Tucano for the job. Made by the Brazilian aerospace company Embraer, it is now being tested on desert ranges in California and the services top test facility at Patuxent River Naval Air Station, Md. The Navy loaded it up with sensors and weapons systems that would make an F-16 pilot blush, the source said.

With top end electro-optical and infrared sensors, laser and GPS-guided bombs, rockets, twin .50 cal. machine guns, encrypted radios and even the capability to tie in UAV surveillance feeds the Super Tucano outfitted for the SEALs is a ground-pounders angel from above.

Also, I did not discuss anything about Tucano purchase with you and if that's your new headache, it's still ignorant and misguided because it was a country to country purchase and the US government spelt out what they are selling us and what we requested and they also acknowledged the fact that they received payment from us and how much they received so what part of it was handled poorly apart from mischief makers, crooked and corrupt senate and middlemen the president cut out spewing ignorant nonsense all over the place.

Dreaming? I dont think so bro. The expansion of the Nigerian Air force is is expanding fast. The NAF has been left to rot for over two decades. Expansion and modernization will be a gradual process, but we are getting there already.

Largest attack helicopter gunship
fleet in Sub Sahara Africa and 3rd largest overall after Egypt and Algeria. These are not average run of mil helicopters. Nearly half of Nigeria's helicopter gunship fleet will be the Mi-35M helicopter gunships. This is one of the most advanced attack helicopters in the world with night mission capability.

Biggest fleet of heavy lift transport planes. We talking about Five Hercules C-130 aircraft. Its complimented by a similar number of G-222 meduim transport aircraft.
planes
Largest and most advanced of ISR/ISTAR platforms in Africa currently. Two ATR-42 Maritime patrol. Four King Air 350i surveillance aircraft and of course drones. Nigeria operates a fleet of four CH-3 Rainbow attack drones. These drones are armed with the Ar-1 antitank missiles. A Chinese adaptation to the American Hellfire missile, but still capable.

The one area the Nigerian Air Force is lacking is in strike aircraft. Qualitatively and numerically Nigeria is pretty much deficient in this area. But this is more or less by design not be a lack of capacity. Should the NAF decide to upgrade its fleet of strike aircrafts there will be no sweat. If the three JF-17 Thunder slated for delivery proves to be a highly capable aircraft during testing and evaluation i see Nigeria acquiring a Squadron or more. Until then Nigeria has to make do with the assets on ground.
So much ignorance here:

- NAF currently only has 11 Mi24......Thus it does not even have a larger AH fleet than SAAF, I will acknowledge that NAF has 10 more on order.

- Again this is wrong SAAF 9 C130(also more modern than NAFs C130) in inventory as well as 3 C212s and around 9 TurboDaks

- in this regard NAF has an advantage since our MPA consist of 80 year old TurboDaks

- As you said NAFs has 0 4+ gen strike capability

What about armed drones and surveillance systems, do they have that?

They don't have a good air defence system.

We have double the attack helicopters they have.

F-7 might not be 4 Generation, but it's not a dead beat either. We use the advanced PL-9C air to air missile.

Although the JF-17 hasn't come, but it is the same class and very similar capabilities to the Gripen, even though the Gripen is slightly better.
- Well documented that 10s Sqd has been reactivated and the SANDF was the launch customer for the Seeker 400

- GBADS bro........

- You don't actually....you only have 11 Mi24 at this current stage

- Dead against any 4gen aircraft....I would even put my money on a Hawk armed with an A-Darter to take out a Mig2........sorry F-7.

- But it's not though!!

Lol dude...you quoting from wikipedia...as early as 2007 before the Boko Haram insurgency Nigeria had more than a dozen Mi-24 gunships. The Nigeriam Air Force helicopter fleet is made in Russia. Besides the Mi-24p Nigeria also in service six Mi-35, these come with rotary gun turrets. NAF recently signed a deal with Russia for the delivery of 12 new Mi-35M helicopter gunships. The first brand new helicopters Nigeria will be buying in decades. This is one of the most advanced helicopter on the planet and gives the NAF night fighting capability.

This is the Air Force. We are yet to know what the new Nigerian Army Aviation Corp will be composed of. Im not taking anything from the SAAF but its an understandable trend. Nigeria is building up because its been at war for long. Aircrafts lost to attrition and all are certainly going to be replaced and improved upon. Its not rocket science.
