what we did wrong was trying to use Mikel as a rebirth of okocha....

We need to tell ourselves the truth in this fvcking country.
Before the start of the game we prayed, after half time we prayed and before the start of second half we prayed the final prayer( benediction) and at the end we played badly.
We have problem. Deep one.

religion is part of our problems...

They say we love sacking coaches but I personally want to deliver this sack letter to this coach abroad just in case he plans to resign from there. Mikel that we have been managing now a supporting striker? how? Iwobi winger? Shehu? No midfield? they're just strolling as if they're spectators, leaving only Etebo and Moses to run from one post to the other and me foolishly putting na him pain me pass my 1k just go like dat.
Re: Nigeria 0 - Croatia 2 Loss: What Do You Think We Did Wrong? by micfoley: 11:13pm On Jun 16, 2018
Where does one even start? We showed too much respect to the Croatians and had a wrong tactical set up from beginning. We basically played with 3 defensive midfielders who we're too slow and ponderous. To worsen matters our coach didn't make changes early enough.
The coach should have started with Nwankwo and Iheanocho in attack supported by Moses with Iwobi playing as a number 10. I actually expected him to make changes to this effect in the second half . If we do this against Argentina and Iceland then we stand a chance
Re: Nigeria 0 - Croatia 2 Loss: What Do You Think We Did Wrong? by Femiajib: 11:19pm On Jun 16, 2018
Victor Moses was busy falling everywhere looking for free kicks and penalty. He was also busy taking the corner kicks like Messi instead of leaving the corner kick to others and get into the box 18 to try and make something out of it. I believe d coach should have used Iwobi and Iheanacho from both right and left wing, also Mikel should have come in second half. All in all, home based players with a mix of d intl players is still our best choice.

football is not for Africa.

We don't have the basic footballing brain or technique.

Croatia is an average European team and they played us off the pack.

We couldn't even create any decent chance. Just aimless sideways passes here and there.

Mikel was not even ashamed seeing the way modric was just releasing though-balls every 15 seconds.

Imagine all the millions of dollars wasted by the NFF on these people.

Invest that money in boxing and athletics which is the black man's game and we will get result.
Re: Nigeria 0 - Croatia 2 Loss: What Do You Think We Did Wrong? by amazingspiderma: 11:33pm On Jun 16, 2018
Etebo had the quickest feet and should had played ahead of Mikel. While Mikel should concentrate on picking the lose Ball. It was clear that he could take on two opponents so easily to give Moses and Iwobi some room to operate. If he was allowed to do that then Moses and Iwobi would have less defenders to contend with and a closer distance from goal.
But in Nigeria's case the no 10 Jersey must always lead the attack, even if he has nothing to offer.

I believed Okocha left the studio of super sport as there was no post match analysis just because Mikel played the full match when it was obvious he was supposed to be the first substitute.

This country, everything is politics.
Re: Nigeria 0 - Croatia 2 Loss: What Do You Think We Did Wrong? by lextube: 11:39pm On Jun 16, 2018
I don't blame Etebo for the own goal (It can happen to anybody). I also feel some of our players lack a little bit of experience (That's why Ekong will be marrying Mandzukic on the pitch).

Gernot Rohr should bench Mikel, or better yet, play him as a CDM.

I also don't know why Shehu Abdullahi should be seeing shirt. For Christ sake that guy is not good at all.

Iwobi should play central midfield (yet I feel he's not so good like that). Ighalo should be benched (That guy is a big pipe). Personally, I like tall strikers (because of their aerial ability) so I will suggest the coach pairs Iheanacho with Nwankwo.

Musa would have been good a winger for us , but he is also a pipe. If Moses Simon was available, we would have had a better option than Musa. In that note, it's ok he comes in as a substitute.

Then Victor Moses should play wing back for Nigeria.

All in all, I will suggest Nigeria plays 3-5-2. Ekong Kenneth Omerou and Balogun. Moses Ndidi Iwobi Mikel/Etebo Brian(This guy is very average), Iheanacho Nwankwo.

This would have been my ideal Super Eagles squad. Also, this our team should practice set piece. Free-kick, and corner kick, let them work on this two very very well.

Re: Nigeria 0 - Croatia 2 Loss: What Do You Think We Did Wrong? by drlateef: 11:50pm On Jun 16, 2018
I think the coach must have asked them to slow down th3 game with hope of frustrating the Croats. But they did it like boko Haram with their extremely abysmal slow motion. Even when they had few minutes left, they hardly realised they needed to wake up. To make matters worse, the coach preferred to watch their slow motion film rather than standing up to motivate them to wake up. Shehu should not be starting up any of our matches. He has proved completely inadequate times without number even during the friendlies. The coach should never use one striker for a non-lethal team like Croatia. At least a combination of Ighalo and Ahmed Musa or Musa and Iheanancho would be better. Victor Moses should have been placed in his role at Chelsea and Mikel should have been in defensive midfield while Alex Iwobi should have played attacking midfield. Etebo should have been on the right wing and playing the same role as Moses on the right. The defence is still very young and inexperienced but as Tyrone is injured, there is not much they could do. Moses and Etebo would have been helping them.

BlackManta:
I blame the coach 100%.

He got everything wrong. From formation to team selection.

1. He benched Iheanacho and started a lacklustre Ighalo.
Ighalo is slow and lacks composure. His decision making in the final third is wack.
He was very wasteful.

I dont need to talk too much about Nacho.
Everybody saw the impact he made and he made his presence felt within the few minutes he played.

2. Playing Iwobi on the wing.
A costly mistake. Iwobi is not a winger. He's an attacking midfielder. A no 10.
Why play Iwobi on the wing when you got a natural winger like Musahuh

3. Playing Mikel as a no 10.
Mikel is not an attacking midfielder. The no 10 spot belongs to Iwobi.
Mikel was slow and lacklustre.
He was one of the worst players on the pitch.
He should have played his natural position as a CDM or rather sit on the bench.
Mikel was the worst mid fielder on the pitch.
Etebo and Ndidi played better than him.
So much for being a captain huhhuh

4. Benching Tyronne Ebuehi.
Tyronne is our best right back. He got pace. He can attack well and with his speed, he can quickly back track when Croatia start a counter or those annoying long balls.
Shehu was slow.
Moses had to back track and play wing back just to cover Shehu's ass.
Croatia targeted Shehu's wing many times.
Modric was always crossing long balls to the right wing and Perisic always gets the ball leaving Shehu on the back foot.
Next time play Ebuehi and bench Shehu.

6. Set Peice.

Nigeria is weak at set peice.
Our first goal was conceded from a set peice and the second goal (a penalty) was conceded after Croatia took a another set peice.

This is not the first time Nigeria is conceeding from set peice.
They did it against England.
Nigeria should work at defending set peices.
It is their major weak spot.

7. Lack of pace.
Our players are slow.
Ighalo is slow as a snail.
Moses was back tracking to cover Shehu's ass.
Iwobi played out of position.
There is ZERO pace in that team.
Our pacey players like Ebuehi and Musa were on the bench and that constributed to our failure as there was no one to inject speed to the attack.
Pls everything you mentioned is true except Ighalo,
Your attacking midfielder is useless

I was surprised that our team could wrestle the midfield with Croatia.

This current team have the same problem with all our past teams..... We don't know how to defend nor make use of set pieces and it kills us all the time.

Iwobi was also played way way out of position and there was not a number 8 to link the midfield with our forwards particularly to Ighalo.

.....and then there is also a lack of experience. The manner in which we lost the match is quite painful. The World Cup is for veterans and not rookies.

Our best player on the field for me tonight was Etebo. He held and played fantastically well in the midfield.

The truth is Nigeria played poorly and is a bad “country”. No need to hire a quack Oyibo to coach us, then celebrate our jersey as of it is going to help us win a game.

I feel as if those teams in our qualifying group, particularly Cameroon threw their matches or were bribed so that Nigeria can go to the World Cup and give the impression that it is a good and ONE united nation.

Look at how people rushed a jersey that really isn’t all that, but could not invest that money in a good political party or revolution to make their land better.

SHAME

He would not have changed anything. The teams shape was in a total mess. Even the British commentators said that the formation the coach picked was wrong. They knew it was the same formation used against England in the first half.

The coach messed up because
1. he got no balls and won't drop Mikel to the bench. 2. Attack was dry just like in the friendlies because the midfield offer nothing with Mikel at 34 playing as a AM
3. The zonal strategy does not work for Nigerian football we need to hustle at every opportunity
4. Our defenders appear out of there depth here
5. We football needs flare

I was impressed we gave a good account of ourself. Yes we lost but our players were good.

I will advise our coach to give etebo the role of Mikel and tell Mikel to play the role etebo played.

If they can concentrate more in their two remaining group games we will qualify.

I am not sad because my expectations were very clear!!!?

Mikel, Echejile, Shehu, Joel obi, the wrestler, the goal keeper and some others have no business being in that team.

The coach is without excuse, his best bet is to resign after our loss to Iceland.

I share your view sir. I saw a fantastic team work in that match against Croatia. I agree Etebo and Mikel can swap places . I also feel we should attack more from the wings . I saw discipline and form on that field too and if we can manage to go to second round, we would have found our rhythm and may shock the world. I'm trust Mikel's leadership and moral boost which is needed on and off the pitch.
Despite the loss against Croatia - a catalyst to improve, Super Eagles did well yesterday and anything meeting us henceforth knows they are in for some actions.

God bless Super Eagles.
