In Neuer, we are talking of the best goalkeeper in the world in the past 5years atleast. I have seen him pull off miraculous saves that makes me believe even that goal conceded today may have been saved in his prime.
Don't make it sound as if I'm blaming him for the goal, because I'm not. I saw your comment about Uzoho and some other postulations.

Sir have we seen any other formation besides the 4-2-3-1? I have missed some games, which is why I am asking.

I dont think there is any. Just the 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 variants.

If he's not, why are you guys not calling out the big boys who flopped?

You really thinkMoses have no defensive responsibilities, especially tracking back to double team on Perisic, Croatias most dangerous player on the wings?
Why do you think Moses started on the right instead of the left where he has featured for the Super Eagles previously?
to the point of being fouled in our 18yard box?

I am not talking player vs player. I am talking of bringing in players that can inject fires into the team and make it stronger as a unit. A team of big heart warriors is what I am driving at.

Komekn says even if you are in Odogbolu it doesn't matter, what matters is the heart and mentality/determination.... That playing at the WC is motivation enough... But he will do a 360 degrees turn when talking about our own young top talents showing these traits even though they may not be in the Big Five leagues just yet. This is why I find it all funny and ironic.

The composition of a team of winners is not always gonna be a cast of those in the best sides... It will sometimes or most times have those special young players who bring a lot to the team yet are still rising in club football and even those maybe even playing football in some obscure league.

JoebieII:
this is not a player vs player thing.. we are talking about the team as a unit, and that's the reason why I'm thanking komekn. I am not against or for any particular moniker on this thread. I can share your post today, but totally disagree with you tomorrow.

Great formation. With Ighalo present lack of Mobility, I'd play him with Nacho instead. At least he's still better on the ball than Simy. Then again, we could play Iwobi with Simy and bring in Etebo. It all depends but this is the template for us to go.
Rohr doesn't have the balls to play Mikel deeper; I doubt he'd dare play Moses as a LWB.
Nacho any day bro.
To be honest I haven't seen much of Simy, but the little I have has impressed me a lot. I love his drive.

Rakitic?! guy at least if you read newspapers you would know that Rakitic was brought in to replace Iniesta. which formation did Barca play this season?

OMGoodness! i done nearly piss for cloth! grin grin

Barcelona played 4-3-3

Iniesta, plays on the left side of the midfield as a CAM. Rakitic has NEVER played in that position, even when he was in Sevila.
What are you talking about?
Rakitic was bought to replace Xavi.
Sergi Roberto was actually suppose to replace iniesta as he is a natural CAM, but he is considered not good enough, and thus has to settle for the RB position in place of Semedo.

I have seen that before, I even went ahead to check on reddit, but didn't use it due to the point I will state below.
But you are missing the point here by miles .
I stated in my other post, nobody plays 4-4-2 anymore.
It is pretty much a generational tactical thing.
Football is evolving and things are changing.
Take a look at the redened in your post quoted above and tell me what you notice.
And you are missing my point. In a 4-3-3, there's nothing like a "10". You can't call Xavi a 10. I told you he was closer to a Regista than a 10 in this 4-3-3. He is a playmaking "8". That's my point. There isn't a 10 in a 4-3-3 and a 10 doesn't SIGNIFY playmaking in general. It is simply used in a 4-4-2/4-2-3-1.
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by MetalJigsaw(m): 7:05pm On Jun 17, 2018
Thesame perennial problem of gifting the opponent too much room to operate keeps plaguing the Super Eagles. One could see how the Super Eagles players wouldn’t close down the Crots and giving acres of space for them to easily pick out passes, even in set-pieces.
Mario Mandzukic and another Crotian player were left unmarked in the area where the ball was floated to enroute scoring their goal.

The only Eagles player shielding the goal from these two was Etebo, and even at this, it wasn’t at close quarters. This gave Mandzukic the priceless gift of that free flying header to force an Etebo own goal.
It is the more sickening that this problem of gifting the opponents too much room to operate has been well noticed and vaunted, but with nothing done to mitigate it. I remember even Messi once pointing it out of the Nigerian team.

Conversely, the Croats were closely man-marking our players and smothering them of freedom of expression on the field of play.

It just occurred to me Kevin Trapp, Psg's second choice keeper made the German squad.
Care to elaborate on why he was chosen ahead of an inform Leno? If we eliminate the word sentiment.

Since you're very vast in knowledge of German football, can you tell me when last Neuer played competitive football for Bayern Munich and how many games he played last season.
Also tell me the rationale for playing an out of shape Boateng who have struggled this past season. The same Boateng Bayern have placed on transfer.

See, in all human endevour, there's always favoritism. Favoritism is not a Nigerian word. If not for Lowe's sentiment, he wouldn't have dropped Leroy Sane. No way an out of shape Neuer gets into the team ahead of the Barcelona keeper. It is all sentiments, nothing Nigerian about this.
Low simply starter Neuer due to his reputation. Neuer has a fear factor that Ter Stegen doesn't possess as of yet. I didn't watch the game properly so I don't know how well he played.
As for Sane, he doesn't do well in the NT. It also didn't help that he missed the Confederations Cup and Brandt was great at it. Sane wasn't going to replace Reus. When Reus is fit, he plays

No... I think the 3-5-2 is the way. An Iheanacho, though not a bully, is better than Ighalo. Ighalo without being fed is useless and when fed, There's a over 90% chance that he'll miss them. Ighalo being a bully is nonsense. He ain't no sh!t.
Na nacho own go worst pass. The solution is ri play twin strikers with an attacking midfielder behind them. We will surely create more chances.

Leno case is complex. He and Ter Stegen have a big rivalry between them so apparently it was a choice between him or Ter Stegen. Ter Stegen has obviously had a better season so he dropped Leno and took Trapp instead. Not too much of a loss as Leno isn't that great and is very error prone

Icon4s, remember yesterday, I said we would concede, we just needed to outscore. them.

As soon as I saw Ighalo in Rohr's line up, I lost faith because I knew that we would not outscore them.

If I say I am not disappointed, I am lying. I rate our team worse than the Saudi team sef, because Russia at least worked for their own goals and scored themselves. We CREATED goals for Croatia, we dashed them two goals and couldn't even pull one back from an honestly, terrible team

So many of us on this thread especially, stuck our necks out for those boys, and both the boys and Rohr slapped us in the face. If they couldn't play for themselves, they could have at least played for those who had faith on them. How do you just lie down and take rubbish?

No fight, no spirit, nothing. We would have done better assembling kids from oshodi and Mushin in that world cup, because those kids would have had FIGHT.

These shaku shaku boys and Rohr, just disgraced themselves. We can blame Rohr for wrong tactics and fielding players in the wrong positions, but it was Etebo who scored an Own Goal and Ekong who gave away a penalty. It was Ighalo who could not fight for balls, it was Shehu who was too scared to cross. It was Moses who was falling over when he needed to stay on his feet, it was Iwobi who shriveled and hid when he most needed to take flight, it was Mikel who failed to show true leadership when he needed to step up

Firstly, he had said our players are average. So you need to look at the context here.. We've gone past selection. The best thing we can have now is team spirit driven by determination. It's the individual player's determination that makes the unit, granted, but there is no guarantee that they -- the individuals -- would always bring what you know them for.

Secondly, the Super Eagles may not be good in pressing. But let's ask ourselves, how do these players play for their clubs?

A fit Neuer never conceded such goal before?
I am making this points because we make it look like for all seasons and for all games a goalkeeper should not concede. Your point being that sentiments made Loew field a not so fit Nueur who conceded because he was not fit.

And I say that's too simplistic just as peeps here were saying Ebuehi would have made the difference difference. Them dey score gk. That's what I know and in very much so in the circumstances in which Neuer was scored.

This is where man management comes in. If there was friction between Leno and Ter Stegen, the Manger should have stepped up and resolved it. Those 2 guys played at the confed cup last year. Kevin Trapp was binned by Unai Emery last season, reduced him to just making appearances in French cup games.

ah swear, mikel should have done more in inspiring the younger, inexperienced players, he played, like mikel "the follower, not the leader".. No zest, just flat, I know he is a quiet guy, but mhen, he needs to learn to charge up his boys... Imagine, the slow, old Croatians bested us in pace which was, supposed to be our strength, we could not run, we didn't make them chase the ball, we didn't tire them out.. We just played to their strength, and they didn't break a sweat.. Ahh

Calm down my sister.

You are not as disappointed as I am.

I recall you saying we like to concede. The thing now is we don't concede from open play it is always through set pieces. I believe we were also unlucky with the own goal. That really influences the course of the game.

Ekong did almost what Eguovoen did against Italy at USA 94 WC. Meaning we didn't learn from that.

I will not give up on the boys yet. The minimum I expected was a decent performance even if we don't qualify from the group.

I have always rated every Nigerian team high going into every WC. Let's see how they will respond against Iceland.

You cannot keep saying Germans are not sentimental when there's no clear definition why some of those guys made the team. I'm sure there's a German word for "sentiment"

The expansion you are giving to the discussion is noted but thing is I don't wish to take it to that extent. Firstly because I am watching my second favorite national team in world football in Russia right now... wink and also because I only simply wanted to point out that him (Komekn) shouting odogbolu doesn't matter in Mexico's case should also recall that he looks down on other odogbolu players of GWG extraction... Players with huge potentials and the heart to deliver the goods in the GWG when given the chance. Just like we saw K.Nwakali do against Partey in midfield, Oblak in goal and against Atletico as a team.

And yes, there are no guarantees that even our finest will always be on song. Even this same Mexico that shocked Germany today will still drop some meters short in their form as this tournament goes on and may not deliver enough to win all games to make it into the final but it still takes nothing away from their performance today.

So it is noted but my simple point is already stated. On your question... I am sure the answer differs for each player. Now allow me get back to my game plsss... cheesy

It is not a permission... Ooooo... I don commot. You may hold the keys to all doors here but I got replicas to all mehn and those "secret" originals.. **zooms off**
