The Bishop of Sokoto Catholic Diocese, Mathew Hassan Kukah, has advised the federal government of Nigeria to change its tactics in the anti-corruption fight against looters.

Kukah said the government should negotiate with looters of the nation’s treasury in order to recover stolen funds.

The cleric made this known while speaking at the 29th and 30th Convocation lecture of the University of Jos on Friday.

Bishop Kukah explained that some countries had negotiated with corrupt officials to recover stolen funds and it worked for them, hence calling on Nigerian government to adopt the same tactic.

According to him “Fighting corruption as a whole is beyond just recovering stolen funds, although it is necessary to punish treasury looters and corrupt officials, to solve the whole problem would involve tackling it from the roots and that means the institutional framework.

“Investigate what they have stolen, then call them and negotiate how much of it can be recovered, while you put frameworks in place to holistically solve the problem.

"Corruption is not only a Nigerian thing. Former presidents of nations like America, France, Israel, South Africa, among others, have been removed due to corruption charges. Yet, their countries are working.”

No my lord bishop!!! Government should never negotiate with these wreakers of our collective commonwealth but deal decisively with them irrespective of faith, region,political affiliation(APC, PDP, APGA etc) and without fear or favour

If you want to fight corruption.
Fight the mentality first.

What you do is this

Federal government gets all the looters list,
Comprehensive list of past and present

Mix them up and have them in groups
Then have them fund developmental projects as a consortium
Maybe group A
Amaechi, orji uzor kalu, obanikoro, ibori

They have stolen in the excess of 10 zillion pounds

They form a consortium and pump in the equivalent of what they stole into generating Power.
Fund a 100 gigawatt solar plant.
Fund a 100 gigawatt hydro plant.
Fund a 100 gigawatt wind turbine plant
Fund a 100 gigawatt renewable energy plant

Nb.
Money go still remain.

Then group b
Tinubu, atiku, diezani, metuh, fashola , otedola, Stella oduah
These group tackles transportation,
24 High speed trains plying the entire country
A national carrier with 100+ aircrafts
1000 vehicle intercity per state.

Nb, money go still remain

Group them all including yusuf buhari.

They fund these projects and form the management team too.

The render these services to the public at subsidized rates till they make 1 zillion pounds and pay back the loan they took.
Then the companies becomes theirs but they pay taxes and royalties to the government.

Tinubu was a looter under PDP. PDP ruled for 16 years.

Out of those 16 , TINUBU was without immunity for 8 years yet he was not arrested by PDP.

It is either PDP has conscience that they are stealing more than him or there is a problem.

Asking his party to prosecute him within 3 years is very clueless.

Politicians keep stealing us dry because they know when it is time to answer for their crime, people will start shouting witch hunt.

That's a terrible idea. You don't negotiate with terrorists neither do you negotiate with looters who are in essence economic terrorists.
