D'banj and his wife ought to be arrested and sued for negligence.

This is why this country is terrible.

And he even has the guts to come to Instagram and be telling us about trying times, his head is not correct. In a country with a working legal system, he would be chilling in jail by now alongside his wife.

They think parenthood is about taking pictures and looking cute for the gram? I hope this has taught them a grave lesson

I swear, I'm pissed at this boy's death because it should never have happened
Well, we not yet know what happened. But in Africa being rich/famous and able to acquire the good tings of life often doesn't mean they are aware of safety measures.

Questions need to be asked: In whose care was the baby? Was the pool secure, as in fenced round with metal barriers without holes big enough for a child to go through? How otherwise accessible is it to kids/pets from the main house? Anyone trained in first aid always around?
Did they consider safety when designing the house?

A few years ago, the grandson of late Morgan Tsvangirai visiting from Canada drowned in a pool at his prime ministerial residence in Zimbabwe.

not so fast. Dbanj and his wife have money.without a doubt they have different people they paid to take care of the boy. it is probably negligence on the part of one of those parties.

crime scene ke?
a lot of people are to blame for that. dbanj, the architect, the builder

to be frank, nigerians simply do not have enough paranoia. most people charged with taking care of or watching kids are frightening careless.
since we don't know who was home, we blame the parents first.

After all, na dem bring the nanny. I don't care how much they have, what does the wife even do for a living? What is keeping her busy that she needs a nanny?

Sometimes, you can't help but reason with people who prefer stay-at-home mothers.

I can't even sympathise with them because I'm so angry such a thing would happen to a child, it has been years since I felt this much shock and anger over anyone's death and I don't even know the kid

But my dear this is 9ja. Nothing will happen. Certainly not when you're wealthy. Unless they want to punish one "house girl" for it. Then someone may be charged.
its so sad

I don't want to do coulda woulda shoulda because this is honestly not the time

But, that pool can make someone, a fully grown human being who can't swim drown,

A pool in the living room? No protection round the edges of the pool? Nothing. Especially with a toddler. embarassed

There is no reason an indoor pool should be in a area people have to walk around frequently
That is just a disaster waiting to happen.

They can just put it in an room and designate it as the indoor pool and keep the door locked, so if anyone is going there, it's clear the objective is to swim.

Safety over swag and fashion please

Now he and his family have to deal with this. cry

This is beyond heart breaking. Their
Baby, their little baby cry cry So sad. :'
The baby is resting in peace already. cry

I wish them the strength to bear the loss.

nigerians of all levels are extremely careless.
my neighbour, a fellow whose family travels to us every year, keeps his toddler in the front seat of his car. i am tired of telling him how dangerous this is.

a baby is very very stressful to manage, and anyone who can afford it will get a nanny. it does not matter whether the mother is working or not.

there are a lot of things in your life that will change once you have a child . for instance, you have to babyproof your house. we have thrown out all the rat poison, throw batteries away immediately, clean up all messes, and keep everything out of the boy's way.
Re: Death: D'banj Son, Daniel D' Third's Throwback Photos by Nobody: 12:02am On Jun 25, 2018
As long as we keep relegating health and safety to the background, cases like this will continue to be common place.

When you have a minor in the house, all potential hazards should be identified and controlled.

Having a protective barrier round the pool with close fitted rail links/ gauze would have reduced the risk of drowning by an infant.

With the mindset that there is a risk of drowning, there would have been a controlled/restricted access/exit to the pool area.

As long as there is a minor in that environment, a second layer restriction should have been put place(after the last security door) incase the first one fails.

This appears to be a clear case of negligence until otherwise stated by the family.

When you move into a new residence/environment, call a competent Health and Safety person to carry out a comprehensive risk assessment exercise inorder to highlight potential hazards and profer possible corrective and control measures.

May his young soul rest in peace.

How sad!

As a busy man, D'banj most probably would have not been around when this happened, but let's wait and see for full details. For now, I'm believing the young pretty ajebutter half-caste wife would have been the one responsible for looking after the kid. This why just marrying just becos of beauty even when the person is not fully matured/responsible enough to be mother of a home can be risky

This was purely an accident from what I gathered.

The wife passed out in the pool while with the son who couldn't be revived. The wife is presently in the ICU of a specialist hospital with prayers being offered by family and close friends.
If this is what happened then there's little anyone could have done. Did the wife have a history of blackouts/fits? Something hush hush about her from the beginning anyways.
Poor boy, looked somber in most of the pictures. Must have been an intuitive kid and wise beyond his years. Maybe worried for his mama and wouldn't let go of her. Tragic, but what is life if not one big tragedy. Adieus.

What is required is a designated adult, actively watching the children at all times. No substitute for adult supervision

Carelessness on the part of the parents.
It need to be investigated.

Very disgusting and excessively senseless comment .

Can't you just put your ridiculous insecurity, useless need to bash women and irritating misogyny aside for some minutes while you post in regards to this situation? undecided

Is that too hard?

What's really wrong with some people who post on nairaland?
So many crazies everywhere on this forum

God!!!! I am so sorry for your loss. Sometimes these things just happen. Nothing could have been done to stop it. Kids are so curious! The smarter they are, the more curious and unstoppable. Even if there was a hedge, the determined ones will attempt to climb the hedge. May God give you and your wife the fortitude to bear the loss.

You are not as pissed as I am...this is so avoidable. This will haunt them for the rest of their lives. They build fancy homes without safety precautions. Useless set of people!....You will see their marble floors/stairs and wonder how they could not envisage that if someone falls, its straight transport to heaven.

It's true that the child died out of improper monitoring. But the truth is that when it's your appointed time to die, there is nothing that can prevent it, whether you're 10 yrs old or 80 yrs old.
Don't forget the people in care of the child are humans and are not above mistakes, stupid ones or not. They should be investigated for negligence but don't also forget there is nobody who has kids that will say they have not lost track of the location of their kids even for once while bringing them up, especially when you're very busy with something.

According to instablog, dbanj is actually currently in the US. He's just on his way back. The boy died this morning in ikoyi and theyve taken him to the morgue.

Kai! His wife will never be okay. Even dbanj will forever blame himself for not child proofing dt pool. I pray they survive this and find their joy again. This is every parents worst nightmare!!!!!

Exactly same question I was asking myself. This is a death that occurred as a result of the negligence of the kid's immediate adult caretaker at the time of his death.
This kids death was very preventable.
Rip to him. I know he's now in the loving arms and care of the almighty

rip boy, parenting is more than showing swags on social media. little kids are fast, smart, think fast but are too gullible, parents should never take chances with them. my two little niece that stays with us, I don't take chances with them I flog them little with a ruler and I scold them, but there mother are still the weakest, you have pregnancy for 9 months, gave birth and they are less concerned about how ur children palys around.

am 100 percent sure that bangalee is not at home when the child drowned, the mother must be held responsible for the infant death.
