MrBigiman: Your empty lamentations should not stop here. Write a lengthy protest letter to the Americans, Australian, Ghana, British and ask them to stop training Medical Scientists in microbiology and haematology and remove it from their curriculum. Unfortunately even after your journey on mother earth the elite field of Medical Laboratory Science will keep progressing and evolving, your cries and lamentations regardless. 10 Likes 1 Share |

People are quick to insult on this kind of thread because of the perceived hatred between Doctors and other allied health professionals. Which by my reasoning would not end soon. This write up as much as it's educative is riddled with flaws. Liver cirrhosis is not same as liver cancer A medical lab scientist offering to offer treatment I feel is wrong. While not stick to prevention diagnosis, false positive, false negative. and refer to a doctor. (separation of powers and knowing litations) Nothing like contraction in medicine it's called mode of transmission. Mother to child is the commonest route. And it might take years to manifest. Even till the child becomes an adult. While some have it and remain asymptomatic for life. It's the internet age, anybody can write anything. It's left for the reader to have discretion but sadly in our environment so many People are misled. 4 Likes |

Uglymugg:That's for chronic hep b. Was educated on it when i took the vaccine. If it's not chronic hepatitis b, the body sheds it off after 6 months and the person becomes immune to having it again in future. Even d chronic hep b can be shed off provided d drugs are taken. D doctor said the drugs are about N20,000 for 30 tablets , so getting the vaccine is cheaper. General hospitals give the vaccine free. 1 Like |

Look at how these malaria and typhoid specialists want to mess up this thread .. OP you try, you have every right to talk about any health topic you want to talk about,. You are a health professional. . In this your write up, liver cirrhosis is not the same thing as liver cancer, rather liver cirrhosis increases a person's chance of getting a liver cancer.. Mode of transmission is what you should use, Which one is contraction? Just edit that part. 3 Likes |

Uglymugg: HepB is a common disease found everywhere. It's been in Nigeria for long and kills people silently. Awareness brings everything hidden to light. Like you said, lack of awareness is the major reason why many people are just hearing about it now. I don't think there is any concrete epidemiology record of other diseases that are not HIV and malaria in Nigeria, partly due to large % of Nigerians that don't use hospitals. Locals die every day from liver issues associated with HepB but not all are reported to disease control center for data collection. |

Amarabae:If you haven't faulted this post according to the level of knowledge you have i would have taken u serious but haven spotted an error, it means that those who have much knowledge in medical science see the post as not as informative as it should be cos it is flawed with falsities. & so, it is advised he gives advice only on what he can defend (in dis case, his post should be restricted to the topic, medical laboratory perspective of hepatitis b. Test specificity & so on.) |

Op thank you for this thread. Last week my friend who was to come to Saudi discovered that she had this HepB. The result (HepB) is likely to disqualify her at the embassy. So she went to the hospital for treatment. She was given an injection and tablets to take. According to her, the doctor said that will cure it. Please I want to ask is it possible that since she has taken the injections and medicines, when she goes for another test, the HepB won't be seen? I mean will the test result show negative? |

Amarabae: When did u become a Lab Scientist. Is it the job a scientist to Educate people about ailment? Even his choice of Language and his equating cirrhosis, as liver cancer, already shows how much of a Google maniac he is. The other day a Chief lab scientist was running around saying a neonate has jaundice because the SB is 75umol/l, because the range on his book put total at 17umol/l. In a bid to look intelligent ran out to say the value is high. Whereas the value just amounted to 4.4mg/dl which didn't need photo. Trying to explain was more confusion to the semi-illitrate. I had to tell him to go back to his office and allow the Doctors do their own job, and he walked away thinking he was right. A pharmacist sister had a positive HBSag, after visiting the Doctor he only wrote linvolin, and asked her to follow a particular management plan. The pharmacist went ahead to dispense antiviral without the hepatologist consent. It was during severe viral reaction, the patient presented, her condition was reexplained, and she used her own mouth to curse her sister, the pharmacist. People should be content with their role and stick with it. I have several lab scientist oriented journals from UK, and other advanced countries, and they always maintain a Lab oriented scope. |

MrBigiman:Honestly this is unnecessary. Why put people down? There are so many cowboys out there with Nigerian MBBSs who are no worse than butchers. It is not having or not having MBBS that mkes a person knowledgeable but continuous study and updating. Anyone with A level science can read up and understand cirrhosis /cancer and the science .Mind you most of the research that constitutes the knowledge base in medcine is not done by doctors but by specialist scientists whether they be viroligists pharmacologists etc. This " local" attitude of Nigeria doctors is embarrassing. You folk need exposure You give an example of a bad Phamarcist for every one there are dozens of doctors in th US or UK undergoing fitness to practice hearing. Your anecdote proves nothing about pharmacists but proves you cannot reason logically or scientifically without bias 5 Likes 1 Share |

It's a great thing to be Civil. It says in the next few days. I would enlighten you about hepatitis B. Where he mention history, diagnosis, contraction and treatment. He didn't mention it in this post, cos he limited it. But in coming days he intend to write about it 1 Like |
Re: Hepatitis B; From A Medical Laboratory Scientist Perspective by MrBigiman: 6:02pm On Jun 27, 2018 |
aribisala0: Don't come here and mutter gibberish. Anyone can read up anything, but anyone cannot be a specialist. I have reffered aged men today to urologists, and they were thankful. 1 was for bladder CA. Guess what's? pharmacist had milked those dudes dry before presenting to our facility. One with passage of clots, but the pharmacist kept loading him with antifibrinolytics. Just a history of bloody hematuria, without concomitant rise in BP clinched the diagnosis. If u say I shouldn't educate people of these then u are an enemy. There are terrible Doctors, pharmacist, lawyers etc. Yet Doctors don't go parading as lawyers, pharmacists and nurses. There must be something wrong, as u walk into pharmacies and they consult and are called Doctors, and they can't even call the client to order that they aren't. If asking people to remain within their scope is unprofessional to u, then u need ur orientation and education rechecked. |

MrBigiman: There are many problems in the world real and imagined. Who is parading as a doctor on this thread falsely.? The subject matter here is Hepatitis B . I know for a fact that over 99% of doctors do not know what the virus looks like ,hell how many doctors in Nigeria have seen and electron microscope. So because the person who started the thread is not a doctor you must put them down? That says more aout you than anything else Your biography is of no interest to me apart from revealing your immaturity and lack of exposure. You need to get out of Nigeria and see how healthcare delivery works in advaanced societies 7 Likes |

asaretolulope: And which do you belong to? The national mor0ns association (NMA) or a student member I guess. Why are you preempting him if you are not biased. A medical Scientist is trained primarily in disease investigation and you can not be a medical investigator if you are not grounded in mode of transmission, history, epidemiology, pathogenesis of the disease in question. You are talking to an M.Sc Scientist and I have lectured even your senior colleagues in CPDs, CMEs, conferences and seminars. Go take a sit. 1 Like |
