If u want to avoid addiction, then don't buy the games. We grew up with Nintendo games, and a pc at a very young age. Trust me they can be addictive and can also make you a social recluse. My parents believe till date that they stunted our social development.

Now, I have kids of my own. I can afford all these games but I will never buy anyone cos I want my kids to learn to live without them. Already they are addicted to their TV. I am not about to introduce another.

Oh, I hope we parents know that addiction to games is now listed as a legit mental disorder in world health organization. Soon, these games will be restricted to older age group and not to young children anymore. Let's be wise.

Poor parenting. Writing lists like the Laws of Moses that are an invitation to sin. Is this how to raise a child. Most folks don't donot realise thd purpose and function of children because if they did the formation of children will be well planned and templated.

What a so called list should contain are objective steps towards a set target. These children have a limited time to learn the steps to actuslise vision and should be occupied in that way. If she can envision her child you and and map outa path towards that objective eithset targets of performance during the holidays she doesn't need to worry about what he does on day to day or hour to hour basis because a individual who has personal goals to achieve dies not squander time on mundane issues.

Any activity without purpose is death and any purpose without vision is dead. Tne power to make a child into a successful citizen person is in getting the mind to dream, think and plan.

Please, please, please parents.... play is the exact opposite.

People have different forms of parenting. Moreover, this mother knows her children more than anyone posting comments here. Also, I don't think she will be rigid with all her rules cos we all know how kids are..... we were all kids once and some of us have kids. No sir, I played while I was a kid too... I cannot see what benefit that has accrued to me today. Rather the things I know today I wish I knew sometimes back. Yes water is nd essary to make a soup, sand is necessary to bulk concrete, nitrogen is necessary in the atmosphere to bind other gases but if you undestand that the end is what important then you will find ways to integrate play into objectifying vision or finding a better substitute for play. Most of what we do and by extension what we permit our kids to do have no bearing on our future whatsoever. They just erode the precious time we have to be whom we should in the time space of our lives.

And that is why 95 percent of people have one or two regrets at the end of it.

Exactly! These are kids with a cognitive development that is quite different from adults. Rather than lay out rules that their little minds will never comprehend, simply take away the source of distraction.

Ben Carson's mum set such rules for Carson and his brother,Curtis but not quite exactly,though she was not with her husband and there was no tab during their days as kids but TV and playing with friends and they later became people to be reckoned with in their professions.These rules can be obeyed to reasonable degree in eyebrow areas but not slum areas where you have many distracting and too playful kids who can discourage your kids,so environment has its own negative influence apart from the two parents not both on the same page on these rules 100%.These could be seemed as hard rules but they pay off in the future.

When I was much younger, my mom would load me with novels, newspaper and magazines and ask me to read up everything and tell her what I read when she gets back from work. Concorde newspaper, daily times, Guardian newspaper, Tell magazine, Camara Laye's "African child",etc. She'd leave me with a dictionary so I check the meaning of words I do not understand while reading. I was roughly 8-9 yrs then. It was a burden initially but it helped my reasoning, and I knew of things my mates didn't know and I grew up having a lot of friends way older than I was. I was practically sitting and playing with people at least 5 years older than I was as I grew up. It still hasn't changed up till today. Most of the people I relate with regularly are actually 5-15yrs older than I am.

my mum tried these with us, the next holiday we gang up to our dad telling him we will like to spend our holiday with our cousins which we are very sure he won't love the idea, so he asked us why and our youngest brother told him that is due to the restriction of playing games on us. since then, is a story

What happened to summer lesson. My own plan for my 4 boys is to enrol them for summer lesson. They'll leave by 8 am and come back by 3 pm, monday - friday for at least 5 weeks. I think that will also help.
