In my opinion, i don't think the JF-17 is the right aircraft for us.

It is modern and delivers on it's marketing targets, but i believe there are few, but better alternatives available.
mig35 and inflight refueling capabilities and we are good to go !

Loooool, I love it how you make grandeur statements without any evidence.

Is there any to support your claim that a 4++ generation fighter, the SU-35S hasn't delivered? Perhaps you could post publicly available sortie rates to back your claims.

The SU-35S, one of the world's best air superiority fighters has failed in Syria? undecided undecided

This is new.

I give up!!

The claims you have made in this post are unbelievable.
I'm reading him and be like someone is living on planet Mars. This is the kind of s.hit some people write on nairaland you want to go gaga cos u don't know where to start. Russian Aerospace Forces Su-30s shown all over the screen everyday blasting enemies of Assad to smithereens turning the tide of the war in his favor. A single Russian Su-35 even interdicting two US Air Force F-22s. But again they say "if you lie a thousand times it becomes truth". So you wonder what the agenda is here.

It is alarming the length people will go to peddle falsehood or just outright ignorance displayed as symptom of a much bigger human complex. It's a shame. A big shame. Me too I give up!

How can someone run without cover and not get hit? is it extremely poor accuracy or the rifle has a terrible kill range?
Kinda find ur ? interesting lol! But joke apart warfare is not picnic; men die.

The soldier performed what is called evasion tactics. That's a professional Nigerian Army serviceman trained for combat. You can see how he quickly took in he's environment with one shot busts to pick his "danger close" target while taking fire and seeing he was outnumbered and outgunned with one man down and the enemy closing in on him, he ran, ducked, took flat cover timing the approach of his aggressor and engaged in hand-to-hand combat disarming and immobilizing the enemy fighter and quickly ran for escape in the bushes. Anything short of that he'd be dead. Having said that it is important to note that most Bokos (not all) have poor marksmanship compared to the average soldier. Terrorists tend to fire at random without picking targets for a clean hit. Nigerian soldiers however are well trained to use one bullet for one man or two to make sure. Still there are fighting situations necessitating rapid fire.

That soldier is a hero.

Well as i can recall the Nigerian army purchased a handful of Ara for evaluation....Now forgive me if im wrong but i've seen a few pics of the Ara in the battlefield, and I highly doubt the Bosses at the NDF will put soldiers in a vehicle which is not tested and just a prototype......IMO the Ara is very close to entering full production IF it can get a customer!
Pray tell pls what do you mean by the acronym "NDF" in your quote jln115?

I watched Russian footage of SU 35 delivering " precision weaponry" that missed target by tens of meters. This was Russian footage. Aircraft did not do jack against ISIS. Hezbollah, Qud force, Iranian supported militias and Russian Special forces did it on the ground. The only effectiveness of SU 35 was against tall buildings harbouring civilians.
Pls where did you get this fiction about interdiction of F22 by SU 35?

Even on Wikipedia, it is admitted that SU 35s were removed from Syria because of faulty electronics.

In any case which country outside Russia is using Russian aircraft day in, day out for months on a campsign?. Pls i want to know. I would also like to know the availability rates, MY TV, MTTR and things like OEM support before we even recommend those outdated hunks for NAF.
In the next few years, I see knowledgeable people surprisingly recommending Turkish, Japanese, Indian and Pakistani stuff over Russian. Such is the state of play and velocity of maturity hapoening now in those countries

Dude Wikipedia is heavily edited. And in this world of battle supremacy between superpowers all most everyone lies to market overhyped and overpriced weapons and equipment or at the least to save face in engagement failures.

Your posts reeks of one who clearly listens too much to talking heads on TV or skewed information on the internet rather than practical knowledge of the military defense system.

When they tell you precision strikes it doesn't always mean a hundred percent kill. It is often in meters within the target.

Every expert objective Syrian watcher knows their was an air interdiction of two US F-22s by a lone Russian Su-35 over the Euphrates. How that was possible is now a matter of disinformation by the intelligence of both countries. But did it happen yes it did.

And of course the interdiction was due to technical superiority and not Pentagon not wanting to escalate to lead to a nuclear war. So I am playing with my 13 yo nephew, he hits me on the stomach and i dramatically/playfully fall to the ground so he is champion.
Everything depends on the depth and discrimination of thinking you bring to what you read.

Meanwhile the SU 35 top of the line variant sports PESA radar. The JF17 variant Nigeria is buying is AESA radar. So apart from a larger weapon load of outdated missiles and range, the SU35 is an inferior aircraft. The range we can have with an airborne refuelling tanker.

Nearly every country outside of NATO uses Russian stuff including some NATO countries. Any one not wanting to be subject to sanctions when it comes to sensitive national security needs buys Russian or outsourced Russian technology in this case Chinese.

Yes Russian high-end Fighters are expensive to run and maintain but I'll tell you they are meant for real war. These guys build to kill. To this day even the F-22 does not come close to the maneuverability of the Su-30. A disadvantage in dog-fight and when it comes to the intelligent systems and stealth that is touted to give the F-22 and F-35 the edge the Russians and Chinese have developed and are developing the capability to neutralize it.

Maybe tomorrow but today an Su-35 piloted by a Russian will give the Americans a run for their money. That I can bet you. In war it is what works that counts not unproven hype.

Apparently I'm talking to a 13 year old.

What don't you understand! I'll help you.

The F-22s that are stealth weren't even aware the Su-35 was above them and had their positions locked. The lone Su-35 rapidly descended before they picked it up but then he had them locked. Now think...then think again.

Exactly. So we buy three (3) pieces of the PESA radar SU35 rubbish in a hangar at TAC to bully Chad but we keep two squadrons of JF17 Block 2/3 AESA radar aircraft for the serious business of securing airspace and killing enemy surface forces.

The same internet you read this sources saying that this version of events was fabricated and oversimplified by the Russians. Every country interested is still buying F35s in spite of similar stories some of them even put online by Americans to hide capabilities.

Yes. The DSS has been and (is going to continue) to actively mine information and do surveillance on social media. I support it. You (should) criticize your government when necessary but be VERY open about it. No insults and no incitements.
If you are a critic, let it be known on your handle that you are, let your ideology and politics be clear. That is how to protect yourself.

The SU35 is expensive, promises a lot, delivers little. It has already failed in Syria against militias and ISIS. The planes that did well in Syria were ordinary L-39ZA and upgraded SU25.

We can argue that the mission was below / mis matched to SU 35 capabilities but when you match it up in a sustained modern conflict against F-35 the SU 35 will again fail. Why?. Because F-35s working in packs are very modern, netcentric, adaptive, intelligent machines and SU 35 is just there to do dogfights and launch in-accurate missiles.

I think there is justification for Nigeria to buy just 3 SU-35 to scare the neighbours but it is an expensive and stupid aircraft to keep in inventory in large numbers. Let us buy refuel-able JF17s, practice with them often then we can achieve equivalent range of power projection at fraction of cost. We then follow up on upgrades from OEM as soon as they are available and try to develop own technologies from there.
I don't know where you got these from but am not in the mood for argument; had a busy day today.

But just give me facts or proof and I'll take it there from tomorrow cool

PRESS BRIEFING ON THE OCCASION OF NIGERIAN ARMY DAY CELEBRATION 2018 BY THE CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF T GEN TY BURATAI AT MAIDUGURI BORNO STATE ON FRIDAY 29 JUNE 2018

Protocol

1. I am most delighted to welcome you, distinguished members of the Fourth Estate of the Realm to this press briefing which is the first major event in the series of activities lined up to mark this year’s Nigerian Army Day
Celebration 2018. This Press Briefing is in line with the Nigerian Army’s resolve to carry every Nigerians along in our activities, I am therefore here today to brief you on the activities scheduled for the week-long event to commemorate this year’s Nigerian Army Day Celebration.

2. Let me begin by reminding us on the reason for this celebration as well as give us a brief history of the Nigerian Army Day Celebration. The unfortunate 30-months long Nigerian Civil War was announced by a shot that was fired on the 6th of July 1967 at Garkem which is in present day Cross River State. The Nigerian Civil war was fought to keep Nigeria one and a lot of soldiers paid the supreme price in that process. The Nigerian Army Day Celebration is therefore a constant reminder of the sacrifices paid by troops most of whom as I said laid down their lives to ensure we remain united as a nation.

3. This celebration is also designed to array Nigerian Army personnel and equipment as well as showcase the combat capability of the Nigerian Army. Furthermore, the celebration affords us the opportunity to celebrate our evolution, achievements and also to showcase our transformational strides in the area of innovation, research and development, civil military relations and technological advances. This is in addition to projecting the Nigerian Army as an instrument of national unity, integration and development. This year, the Nigerian Army will be marking 155 years of its existence, dating back to its inception in 1863.

4. We are aware of the many security challenges that have bedeviled this country in the last decade or so. However I am pleased to state that the Nigerian Army has made giant strides in this regard particularly in the last one year. Our security architecture as a country is one with a very positive outlook. We have not only consolidated on the gains established in the fight against insurgency in the North East but have progressed to the post stabilization phase where all efforts are geared towards ensuring displaced persons return to their biological homes which are now safe.

5. That is why I directed that an operation codenamed Operation LAST HOLD be conducted in the fringes of the Lake Chad waters and Northern Borno. This operation is a humanitarian one in which we seek to return the Internally Displaced Persons and also provide the much needed security and guarantee for them to return back to their economic lives of farming, fishing and trading. With the defeat of the insurgents, it is time to encourage our people to return to their ancestral home.

6. This year’s Army Day Celebration is quite unique as you will see the innovative, research and development and technological side of the Nigerian Army. We have carefully packaged some activities along this line which you will witness in the course of the celebration. That is why the theme for this year’s celebration is “The Nigerian Army and National Security: A Panacea for Nigeria’s Economic Development”. We as an Army are determined more than ever before to contribute our quota to national development. This theme is also in line with my vision “to have a Professionally Responsive Nigerian Army in the discharge of its Constitutional Roles”.

7. Like I stated in the beginning, this press briefing kick starts the series of activities for this year’s celebration. Later today, Jumua’at Prayers will be held at the Prayer Ground in Maimalari Barracks here in Maiduguri and across all formations in Nigerian. Likewise, there will be an Interdenominational Church Service at the All Saints Military Church, Maimalari Barracks as well as across all formations in the country on 1 Jul 18 as part of the events for the Nigerian Army Day Celebration.

8. Other activities lined up for the week long celebration include the following:

a. Sanitation Exercise

b. Medical Outreach to be undertaken at selected locations across Borno State and other parts of the country by all Nigerian Army Formations and units between 2 - 6
July 2018.

c. Local and International Military Equipment Manufacturers Exhibition.

d. Mini Trade Fair.

e. Static Display of Nigerian Army’s Equipment Capability.

f. Airborne/Paratroopers Demonstration.

g. Fire Power Demonstration among others.

9. The grand finale of the celebration will take place on Saturday 7 Jul 18 at Monguno. The President, Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to grace the occasion as the Special Guest of Honour on that day.

10. Gentlemen of the press, the Nigerian Army is continuously making sacrifices towards ensuring the unity and development of this great nation. We therefore use the occasion of this celebration to solicit for the cooperation, prayers and goodwill of all. Let us join hands to collectively build and take this nation forward. I therefore urge us all to desist from acts that are capable of truncating the peace. We must be tolerant of one another and learn to give peace a chance. Let us also remember that no nation can develop or be economically vibrant without peace. I therefore want to use this medium to solicit with us all to be our brothers’ keeper. We assure all Nigerians that the Nigerian Army is for you and will continue to work for the common good of the country while professionally carrying out its constitutional responsibilities.

11. The current crisis in Plateau, Benue, Taraba and Zamfara States are both induced internally and externally. So many forces are against Nigeria. The target is the corporate existence of Nigeria as a country. The blame game along ethnic and religious fault lines is not the solution. Nigerians must unite to solve this serious challenge. The Nigerian Army is not sleeping. We are continuously exploiting all the linkages and leads towards addressing the security challenges we shall get to the roots of all the crisis militarily. Therefore, we must be tolerant of one another and give peace a chance. let us also remember that no nation can develop or be economically vibrant without peace. I therefore want to use this medium to solicit with us all to be our brothers' keepers. We assure all Nigerians that the Nigerian Army is for you and will continue to work for the common good of the country while professionally carrying out its constitutional responsibilities.

12. On this note, let me express my sincere gratitude to the media for their wonderful support to the Nigerian Army at all times. I urge you to give this year’s celebration the wide coverage and publicity it deserves. Finally, I thank you for your continued support in our efforts in the pursuit of peace, security and progress of our dear nation.

13. Thank you for your attention.

One of the dangers of the social media age is mental timidity and lack of critical thinking. The Russians are actually more sophisticated in propaganda (as seen in the US elections) than designing and fielding modern combat jets.
Technology is leaving them and that is why they kept to what they knew best (theoretical aerodynamics) recycling the same SU27 airframe with different engine sizes instead of trying to keep up with advances in stealth and netcentric warfare. I am not even sure they have as much talent in key areas as ordinary Ukraine as we speak

No points to back up your claims.

In January 2016, Russia, for the first time in combat conditions, deployed four Su-35S planes to Khmeimim air base in Syria as part of Russian air operations in the country.[95] This occurred following an increase in tension between Russia and Turkey as a result of reported incursions by Russian aircraft into Turkish airspace.[96] The aircraft complemented the Su-30SMs in flying combat air patrols and providing protection to other aircraft that were conducting bombing missions.[97] As a result of operations in Syria, problems were identified with the aircraft's avionics and were subsequently rectified.[98] The aircraft reportedly will attain full operational capability in late 2018.

They where rectified not pulled out of Syria.
