A facebook user shared pictures of flood in Owerri, along Okigwe Road yesterday. Flood covers roundabouts and roads as a result of heavy downpour.

The user took a swipe at the Governor when he said sarcastically that "Our Governor is working" .

i take offence at that statement.
Of course the Governor is working.
Do you think it is easy to create death traps so that it can be filled with rain water for people to fall into?
if he was not working, will he be able to host the APC mega rally that showcased the grassroot support for Buhari.
He has just been busy at the moment fighting to regain control of APC and put his son in law as the next governor.
when he achieves that then he will come back and repair the roads. During dry season.
ROCHAS IS WORKING.

The one that baffle me the most is Naze - obinze road a road that houses two Federal universities nekede and Futo that road is in shambles.
Another thing is the issue of waste disposal owerri and imo state is all in a pile of rubbish from orogwe to Douglas to nekede road is all scattered with dirt.
Whom did we offend in this country.

Waste managed properly can earn revenue for the state I don't know why rochas just abandon imo state

Look at the Douglas road he said he want to expand, he chased everybody closed the road even killed a little boy in the process. No work is going on there presently.

The roads are choked up because of Douglas road being blocked.

I heard buhari visited imo 2 days ago, because of that all traffic workers were looking neat. Yesterday dirty and rubbish lifestyle continues.

Imo state needs help sorry to say rochas and APC are all fools. I have videos to prove the deplorable state of imo state.

I used to respect rochas when he was not governor I knew about 7 boys he trained from primary to university level but as he joined APC he became a nuisance

So when it rains, i have to wait till it stops? As a resident of Owerri, Rochas has done worse in his road constructions. No matter the quantity of rainfall, you will always experience flooding in owerri. It is not a matter of tribalism.
amaco13:
the rain was too much yesterday, and when did you take this pic. because I passed this area 25munites after the rain didn't see this flood, so did you snap while it was raining or after.

Why won't it be flooded, look at one of the road okorohausa constructed, growing grasses
Good Lord. It seems the contractors didn't even clear the top soil. They probably just dumped asphalt on the soil and viola the "road" is ready. No wonder the infrastructure in Owerri looked fake.

Same picture of same place has been in circulation since work started at Wetheral road. Expect to see same picture recycled again once there's prolonged rainfall. Also expect pictures of excavated roadsides from ongoing road works.
Re: Owerri: Roads And Roundabouts Flooded by mandax: 10:19am On Jul 05, 2018
Owerri has one of the best drainage systems in the east - right from Mbakwe govt era.

After that, gov Amadi Ikwechegh started work on another good drainage system in Orlu.
As soon as Ikwechegh left office, Owerri killed the job.

It was not completed till today. Visit the part of Orlu near St. Joseph's Catholic Church, and see multi storey buildings condemned by rain floods

Orlu voted Massively for Rochas Okorocha in 2011 to complete the drainage project. He didn't

I remember my days at FUTO.....Owerri a small town has been a flood zone especially around "New market" in serious rain times because of blockage of the drainage system caused by market traders and consumers and no great sanitation techniques. Not only in okoroawusa tenure but far back 10yrs ago.
I
Someone need to change tinz
"Owerri a small town has been a flood zone especially around New Market" according to you. I can categorically tell you that you know next to nothing about Owerri. You may have been schooled at FUTO, I graduated from there too but you are probably among those that pass through Douglas and Whetheral road once per semester and then conclude they know Owerri. Firstly, New Market is located at the Emmanuel College end of Douglas road and it is never prone to flood! Once the rain stops, regardless of how heavy it is, the flash floods will disappear immediately. It is Old market that is prone to flood. Again, Owerri is not a small town, at least by Nigerian standard. I hope you know that the city has grown to encompass areas like Amakohia, Akwakuma, New Owerri, Umuguma, Naze, Nekede, Orji etc. So, Owerri does not start at Douglas and end in Whetheral. Be informed please.

Imagine the damage flooding has been doing in other parts of Imo state, like Orlu for example, that have no common urban drainage system;

if not that Okorocha govt and people like you have limited the narrative of Imo state to Owerri.
