The thing is we hardly use the pattern... Pattern is just like a backup password... We use fingerprints most of the time to unlock our phone, it's possible he must have forgotten it

My views though, I may be wrong

So I finally got hold of my redmi note 5 from maceybyland, very nice dude.
I updated the software to mui 9.5.13.0 immediately I inserted my sim. However, I noticed that the battery is not as good as y'all are taunting to be here. My redmi 4x battery lasts longer compare with note 5 pro. Heck even my old fashioned redmi 4a battery would give this note 5 run for it's money.
Could this be software issue or the battery isn't good?

Software issue. Download the full rom, flash and factory
reset

**modified **

You downloaded the oroe update. So just factory reset as they only have the fastboot rom now (9.5.14.0) and no recovery rom

Problem I experienced on 9.6.2 was freezing while going into some apps I minimised and the Ram management
Are you on global or china rom?

4GB or 3GB RAM?

Rooted?

Any other special customizations?

What apps did you experience the freezing? I would like to test them out.

Guys, thing is I don't really use pin/password/pattern.. I make use of Fingerprint most times. So I went home and decided to quickly change the password cos of younger ones... So I've not been using it cos when I wanna unlock I just use my finger...

But I restarted my phone and I'd have to input password to unlock as Fingerprint won't work on reboot. Naso I no remember my password oh... Been trying it for like 2days now, decided to format it. After making up my mind. If there's any other way I can open it without loosing my data, I'd really appreciate..

If we follow your story correctly, before setting up a fingerprint you'd still need a pattern/pin/password. Also do we take it you don't restart your phone at least once a day? Anyways if you have a miui account you can recover ya password

Why rush to update? You should have used for at least a day or two before updating. Definitely you've got some bugs from the update, do a factory reset and see if there is any improvements.

3gb ram was not rooted then.
WhatsApp, Facebook, if I minimised WhatsApp and head straight to Facebook.
If you use the phone you should know about the ram management issue
It'll freeze.
I flashed a custom ROm now though

Don't worry, just go to Mi cloud on the web and do what you have to do, data on your phone don't need to be switched on.

So, I did a backup and then a factory reset on my device. I've copied the backup file back into the MIUI folder, but I can't seem to see how to restore the backup. Help, please.

PS: I followed Jboixxx's instructions all through.

My assumption wasn't that you stoled the phone, but maybe you could be trespassing on someone's device (It's somehow surprising that you forgot your password).
Just login to your Mi account with a pc or another phone to unlock the phone.

It's better to do a manual backup, by copying your files to an external memory, then backup your notes and contacts on your stock backup, if you care about WhatsApp chat history, you also do the backup from WhatsApp.

Well I am currently typing from the phone (4GB RAM). I have two instances of WhatsApp (Dual apps), LinkedIn, Twitter, etc installed but not Facebook. I play some online games frequently.
I have not experienced the RAM management issue or freezing as mentioned.
Running on the default rom that came with it and have been updating ever since.
I also update apps from Google play at least once a week.
