State policing with the directives / orders coming from the State head is the way forward, state policing with orders coming from Abuja is a joke, for this to be implemented properly, the states have to oversee the state police structure, the FG shouldn't have a say in matters of state policing.

Then that is a stupid policy.

What happens when the FG police intefers with state policing?
Who wins?

Take police off federal government control completely and give the money to states to fund their police.

The federal capital territory is the only place that should have federal policing.

The NSCDC can remain under federal government control to mimic the National Guard of the United States of America.
the federal police would be their to be a check to the state police. Its quite similar to the structure of naijas judiciary at present .

An additional cost of governance for the federating states which i am very sure their Governors wont support through their houses of assembly unless there is an alteration to the revenue sharing formular and security votes

I hope the current budgetary allocation for the police force would be shared to the states to utilise since the FG will no longer control it.
states don't even need any allocation from the fed govt ,firms (banks, companies etc) and individuals in each state can fund them.Already many states has a security fund to provide the police with logistics.

It's time to emasculate the useless corrupt IG and kill off the murderous brutes called SARS once and for all.

The pen will always be mightier than AK47.

Anybody who wants to #EndSARS once and for all should write to NASS and support this bill to reform and liberalize the police. This is a step towards true federalism. Way to go!

I was against this bill sometime ago but I realized it must be supported. The federal police with all its hydra-headed cannot be dragging this country backwards. How can a sitting Governor not have control over the Commisioner of police posted to his state, and yet supposed to be the Chief Security office of his state?

Why should governors have to take persmission from an Appointee like the IG in Abuja before he order the police in his state to do what is right?

As for Sars, your days are numbered. You are also part of the reason this is happening.

I know Feudalisic buhari the tyrant won't sign the bill, he loves absolute power and hates federalism but unfortunately the NASS can recall the bill and pass it into law if the presidency refuse to assent. NASS has the numbers.

The bill as it stands is not perfect yet. Abuja shouldn't be dictating how the structure of how state police when state assemblies could easily do that. Next they claim to want commuinity policing but dont confer any powers to local government to form a police force. Next they still need to delete prisons from exclusive legislative list.

The point of this decentralization of police force is to get maximum efficiency. States can choose to follow different models to reflect their society. An Easy example could be Police chief is appointed by local government chairman or local government council. This will lead to less conflicts and reflect principles of federalism.

are you a policeman or a member of SARS. If you are, then sorry the country must forward without you. Uniformed Criminals!

Its not stupid they simply take on different roles and have a few duplicate functions. Don't let hollywood films fool you i to think police forces sre always arguing about juristiction all day. Take germany and the United States as an example. The FBI handles specific cases like corruption, interstate crimes child kidnapping etc. In germany the federal police worry more about border and other sorts crime.

The day to day opperstions will be carried out by states. No the states want responsibility so the need to fund it. If they want national guard that can be formed without bill. I doubt they want to be busy bodies when they have more than enough crime on their plate.

Can u help clarify this.

What will be the fate of Sergent Musa currently posted to Yenagoa,
How about Inspector Segun currently seving in Adamawa.
Are they gonna send them back to their state of origin.
Is the FGN doing away with state of origin.
Some state are so broke that they cannot afford to employ adequate number to police their territory.

No state is so broke that it can't afford its own security. All the governors receive security vote in millions. If any state cannot afford its security, the state should be auctioned on Ebay.

I dont know what becomes of those officers. I can only speculate. They will go where ever they are posted to keep it simple. The state of origin isn't going away. Nobody has brought up the idea of removing it.

States that cant afford to keep cost will provsbly be assisted by federal police. That was the assumptions made in governors meeting last time. State governments already recieve security vote money. Secruity isn't free, they have to raise theur IGR no excuses. They knew they would have to gund this pplice force.

though I condemn this bill due to the immaturity of our politicians who are to be in command of the state police as governors in their various states, the bill will hardly come into fruition because the core northern states' house of assembly will overwhelmingly vote down the bill. the northern states will be threatened by equipping some group of people with guns in the name of state police to perpetuate secession.

The way I see it, the federal police can transfer some of it sergeant or constable to their various state policing. And state origin might not be a problem. For those state unable to fund the state police at all, will still pertially be under Federal control.

These people are simply calling for civil war. Most Governors will misuse this development. By the way, don't compare Nigeria with the USA. If this development comes to co reality, we won't be talking about book haram, herdsmen or ipob but will we all be battling will impending war in our respective states

When the State IGP misbehave, the State Assembly impeaches his Boss, The Governor.
The NASS should have impeached Mr. President 100 times for Idris' recalcitrance. They just pity the old guerrilla Soldier. He's a Wolf.

If you take the control of the leadership of the police from the governor, then it defeats the purpose of state police.
And the governor cannot be held liable for security inefficiency in his state.

The president controls the leadership police right now. There is no reason why the governor shouldn't control it in a state policing scenario.
.

The Governor nominates, the Assembly certifies. And if the Police is stubborn to the Assembly, the Assembly impeaches the Police Boss, the Governor.
