Have u considered a change of course, since ur not doing well in ur present department, a change of course (department) will serve as a tool to clear all ur loads (carry ova) nd create a fresh platform for u to study with ease,gives u a relaxed state of mind, cos from wat am seeing now, u're already under pressure and u can neva study with dis kind of pressure. If ur staying far from sch, try luk for someone dat stays inside sch (preferably) or outside but very close to sch to squat u, by so doing u won't have issue wit transport nd won't have any reason again to miss classes.
When uv done dis then u can start applying all d advice that have been given to u on dis thread concerning reading pattern. Trust God dat all will be well. av been in ur shoes b4.

Mr Man i won't say i know exactly how you feel but i'll tell you this. I just graduated from school, last year.
My first 3 years in school i had one carry over from each level respectively, fair right? i had plans for my final year, plans of finishing with 2.1 because i was still on that line but when i saw my 400level first semester result i cried. What as never happened from my previous levels happened, i had to work extra hard semester for me to graduate and yes i put in more work, i believe, i was calm though scared. At the end of the day i graduated with my classmates.

Now what i want to tell you, i had a friend same class with me. His 100level result, he failed 6 courses, the courses was so many that he could not register some in 200level. He took some of those failed 100level course to 300level.
In 200level, he worked hard though he failed some other course but he cleared most of it and that of 100level too. It was in 300 he cleared everything. There's still hope for you, just work towards it Mr.
In everything you do henceforth, always remember where you are coming from(YOUR HOME). Keep good friends, just let the positive vibe stay strong.

All you need to do is to work extra hard, and also learn how to answer questions, like understanding how you should answer Mr Agbanike question when writing his course it helps

Also apply for extra credit load in your 300l and 400l talk to your D.O he will help you out. I think the maximum should be 30 credit unit. Wish you success bro

I gained admission around August / September 2016 but i couldn't resume same time with my mates because of some financial problems with was later sorted out and I had to resume half way of the semester with almost all quiz already done and just a week to exam. I did all i could do to make sure i avoid carry over but unfortunately for me I had 3 carryovers in my first semester year one and 4 carry overs in my year one second semester.

Our 200 first semester results level results was released two days ago and i went to check mine today to my utmost surprise i had 4 carryovers out of 7 of our departmental courses which was released, i couldn't believe what i saw even though i did all i could do to make sure I don't miss quiz or assignments. I wasn't always in school to mark my attendance because of my financial situation to transport my self to school every day and i can't tell someone to mark my attendance for me cos the lecturers are fond of calling each and everyone names one after the other to make sure no one is trying to helping anybody.

You see OP I was in a similar situation, I gained admission into one of these private universities and started having carry overs from day one, I guess due to me being an extreme introvert and cause I hated answering questions in class and felt I needed nobody's help. Well I made it to 400 level despite accumulating so many carryovers until the final semester school authorities advised me to withdraw..note. I never for once told my parents about my difficulties in school, After all the scenario Parents and close Family members held meetings on my head like kilode I had to stay at home for almost one year re-wrote jamb and finally enrolled for IJMB program to make it to 200 level in any institution of my choice, I had 11 points, I'm currently a 200 level. Now I've realized that the problems I had in my previous institution was laziness,procrastination towards school Work and to add I was an extreme introvert. OP if you face any of the aforementioned challenges you need a total overhaul of mindset you can do this by reading motivational books and believing in yourself, please make it a habit of keeping those who are tops in your class as friends to help,furthermore talk to the guidance and counseling unit in your school or your course advicer for remedying this problem.

It all starts with determination, always have a focus, I always tell people to understand themselves and their ability...
If you are the type who assimilate rather slowly, read , read , read everyday...I am an avergae student by every standard buy yet I read a week or sometimes a day to exam and thanks to a 5 year course...I made a second class upper degree in my field.
Understand yourself...understand your ability...i know how long it can take me to assimilate a page..so I always know I'd finish reading my handouts in a day or two..so i always push myself hard during exams and sometimes i tend to fall ill..There are things you need to understand like I said...
I cram mathematics to the hall if I must...
I am a very poor student in arithmetic..I know my flaws and I try to work against it...I meet friends who have better understanding and they put me through....

Schooling is not for everyone. I advise you to drop out and become useful. Stop wasting your life away...

You're studying economics but don't like Math? ...you'll have to work even harder than normal to succeed.As I see it..... you have to change your mentality.... set your mind to bear your cross alone and not be looking forward for help from others....as in Nairalanders should help you financially because they helped others. What have been doing to help yourself financially? You have excuse for everything and rather contemplate suicide instead of doing something to improve your situation.

I'm sure you have a course adviser who is a lecturer in your department. Go and meet him and explain your predicament.

You may end up having at least an extra semester but at least you won't be advised to withdraw at the end of your 4 years.

Also, try and meet with your lecturers one by one and explain your financial situation to them so that they understand the reason you can't make it every day to class.

In some schools like my alma mater, you must make at least 70-75% attendance before you can even be allowed to sit for the exam.

I will advise you to go and register for jamb and choose another institution including with the course you are offering now.

Worry less bro, you're in already and the only thing you should think of is how to step out of this cos u've done a mistake in ur choice of course chosen earlier. Solutions:
1. You have identified ur weakness, work on it. In real world shy people hardly get the best placement, relate it to anything. Get me right is not a crime to be shy but not to something that we better you life.
2. Change they say is inevitable, change your circle meaning change your friends move with people to look up to not those you're better of academically. Stop being a local champ.
3. One can only succeed in Nigeria institutions if you play by the rules: attend class if u can't get note and better explanation from the regular guys or attend tutorials better than lectures some times.
4. Never compare yourself with others, manage your time. We all have 24hrs in a day, poor,rich etc.
5. God! You know why I made this last. He can't do all the above for you but can multiply your little effort.

Note: No excuse for failure because there are people we're better than yet they succeeded.

Young man don't do anything stupid to yourself as you mention in the last paragraph of your post.

l see an aspiring and determined student giving all he has got to his studies in you. Is unfortunate that you are not getting the results you have devoted time and resources in your studies however you need to be regularly present during lecture periods.

You pinpointed financial challenges as reason for not all attending to lectures timely thus leading to absence when lecturers are calling attendance list to ensure that the number corresponds to actual students present in the class.

Since this semester is almost over with quizzes and exams fast approaching, then comes next academic calendar. Plan to balance your lecture period with the merge resources at your disposal, by this l mean since you can't be going to school daily or attend all lectures due to some constraints. Enquiry ahead of time from those who year above you in your department the lectures/courses most critical and compulsory require physical presence in class.


Get to know the lecturers in your department, this would help know their personalities, rules during lectures and strictness to attendance register.

Finally young man if you can't afford to daily transport yourself to school then try to on occasion sleep in school or make friends that stay in hostel and squat with them when lectures are demanding.

please kill yourself! mumu i know guys that have been in the university since 2012 till date jjc dey worry you! better relax your mind read and pass Economics is not even hard! as un serious as i am with studies i still get good results! [color=#006600][/color]I have seen people with similar stories as urs. But what do we do when it happens, we don't think of suicide. Instead, we dust ourselves and take it as our fate. I studied 5 years course between 2012 till 2017 in UNN. I won't say I am that brilliant student; though I try as much as I can to escape carryovers after having one in my first semester first year. I never imagined carryover will be my portion again until when I couldn't see my name in the list of graduating students. I was devastated and I went down to school to know the actual problem. Low and behold, I had 2FFs out of 16 courses I offered in my finals excluding project... Alas!!!.. I dried up and lose weight withing couple of days. I broke the news to my people, close friends and associates and at least, I was leveraged a bit with their encouragements.



Right now, my course mates are serving but I am here still going around sch preparing for the second exam coming next week.



So Bro, dust urself and pick up the challenge. Suicide won't help the matter. If u couldn't meet up and lands in extra years, it doesn't mean extra life. Embrace it and work harder for ur academics.
