My Interview Experience-you Might Learn A Thing Or Two. by charles009(m): 1:00pm On Jul 12, 2018
Last Month, my friend tipped me off that a new company is sourcing for experienced hands in Marketing and Sales. Though the conditions were stiff, I decided to keep my options open so I applied.(i don't really need the job, i love honing my skills to be able to compete, preparation!!)

Saturday was the interview day, held at a hotel in highbrow area of Victoria Island, I arrived the venue to behold thoroughly drilled men and ladies in suits, in their own rights, cleanly shaved. about 10 of us. I was my usual self, a milk coloured chinos, a white shirt and a blue suit to match my rather casual looks, and of-course I keep cleanly shaved beards.

After a few mins a mixed breed lady walked in and said we were gonna write a little assessment to gauge competence, this announcement was met with silent murmurs from us. As I flipped through the questions, I noticed they were purely credit questions. (bankers would understand) At that point I understood, the essence of all the suits and clean shave lol. immediately I gestured towards the door, the lady questioned why, i reminded her my experiences are in FMCG not Credit institution. so definitely i should be in a wrong place. She persuaded me to stay that it was the MD who personally screened the list before approving the invite. Anyways I stayed and still vehemently but politely refused to answer those questions.
After the sessions we were shortlisted for an interviews immediately, my name was the last name on the list. I was very angry and felt i needed to leave, but when i saw the sumptuous meals they were gonna treat us to, I simply decided to stay. while we discussed we collectively agreed to give them salary in the region of 400k and above( I currently earn above 400k though, read on you will see reason why i made this remark) Then there was a twist, people who came Outside lagos were given 30k while within lagos was 5k. a whole lot of us demanded for the list and suddenly everybody came outside lagos lol.

Finally it was my turn, i walked in to a panel of over 8 people, i was bold enough, though nervous initially, They all laughed, finally the man who refused to write our quiz. tell us why, i reminded them that i better not answer and look stupid before them, I do not have competence in that area i reminded them. they totally inundated me with questions, I was ripping the questions to shreds you know that kind thing. At some point, I started showing them figures. it was time for the MD to speak, gracefully he said, thank you young man, you are a very strong candidate nonetheless. you really thought us strategy. The secretary now gave me a white envelope and said its 30k for your fare back, i immediately reminded her, I came from ikeja. she smiled, you can keep the money. you will hear from us was the last word i heard from the MD

Tuesday, 8pm local time, my phone rang, and it goes my name is ****** the HR of ******. i will like to make you an offer, please revert if you accept or reject. Guys the offer made was crazy, i repeat outright crazy. still thinking about it though, cos my new place of work is just so much mad fun. will let you guys know if i accept or decline the offer.

Afterthoughts: I am still thinking why I was the preferred candidate?
would love to know your thoughts as I will also include mine in the comment section.

Either way, I am happy for you and believe you will make the best decision. However, since it's a new company, surely there must be other available positions. If you accept their offer, please link me up o

I guess I have to dust my CV again currently doing my Msc I like your courage but what gave you the boldness to walk out was because you had a job already at hand and this was more like a freestyle to you .no job seeking jobless person would walk out on that questions congratulations.
