The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has announced that it realised N2.52 trillion from various taxes from January to June 2018.

The amount showed that the Service had realised 75 per cent of its total target for the year, which is an improvement over what was realised in the corresponding period in 2017.

A report on the revenue performance by the Agency, submitted to the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, confirmed that the figure represented an increase of N746 billion, representing 42 per cent when compared to the N1.7 trillion total tax revenue realised in the corresponding period in 2017.

An analysis of the total amount shows that N1.6 trillion was collected as Petroleum Profit Tax (PPT) as against N636 billion resulting in a variance of N532 billion.

From the company income tax (CIT), the FIRS realized a total of N680 billion, which was N128 billion more than the N551 billion in the previous year. The Value Added Tax (VAT) yielded a total of N536 billion in the period under review, which was N68.8 billion more than the N467 billion realised in 2017.

Milking Igbo businesses to feed Northerners and Afonjas. Go to Onitsha, Aba and NNewi and see them harrasing Igbo businesses everyday. My uncle has this small spare parts shop, but I was shocked when he showed me over half a million paid in tax. I asked him if you pay this much in tax, how much does the distributor or importer pay? He that big shop there is a major importer and pays over 10 million in import duties and taxes a month. I almost fainted!

So what's the good news there? For any statistic issued by the government, there should be the corresponding effect felt by the populace.

In the history of the country, has security been this bad? Salaries have been delayed for months, Health care, Good roads, Portable water, Electricity, Economy etc has never been this bad since the history of this country.

The only things on the increase is Crime, Murder and Sucide.

Shame!

Until the Naira gains in value against the dollar and there is increase in minimum wage, even 20% increase, the land and its people would not feel it.

Sadly, they are playing this for keeps till the presidential election is nigh . . . those who've not died of ill health or starvation would vote them in, that's the mentality -- that's the plan.

So why is Buhari, Kemi and APC still borrowing money upandan?
They also recovered loot from Abacha and other thieves.
They stopped paying subsidies.
They implemented TSA.
So what happened to all our money
Buhari is a monumental error of gargantuan proportions that must be corrected in 2019!

Go and ask your state Government. The FG has no business collecting revenue from the local spare Market stores/ dealers.

Guy thats not the point . dont speak as if you are hating... if you are giving kudos to the govt for raising the revenue , you can do so without spreading hate comments...

You can however also listen to the school of thought who believes there is no consequence of saving money for the dead - or rather the life of one person isnt worth the millions

Don’t you think that it is better to match (and effectively decrease) the maximum wages we pay to our public servants and their numerous aides with what is earned by civil servants?
Then we can have more money for infrastructure, services and utilities with greater purchasing power of the current minimum wage

Igbos who are aversed to paying tax to their state, yet ever willing to claim some importance and delusional relevance with FIRS taxation of mushroom shops in a local market.

How much of his tax went to FIRS?
Did he tell you how much the Anambra State IRS collected from him? or the one those Obosi, Nkpor and Bridgehead thugs dey collect?

The FIRS is collecting tax due to it and you can easily see the results in the number of projects on-going accross the country.

You are dull if you keep believing these people and their figures.
Why is the government still borrowing to finance a large chunk of the annual budget?
2,5trillion in 6months from taxes alone , not talking about revenue from other agencies??
Nigerians should be much better off than really the case.
Re: FIRS: Tax Revenue Hits N2.52tr In Six Months by Deeldorado: 8:11am On Jul 16, 2018
Nigeria is actually the worst performing economy in the world in terms of ability to collect tax revenues. Nigeria's tax to GDP ratio is just 6 percent. South Africa is doing 26 per cent. With a smaller economy and population, South Africa collects about #30 trillion in a year. Their budget is also far bigger and the economy better managed. Stop celebrating mediocrity in public. Nigeria has not even started and it's shameful.

Nonsense , you devalue the naira almost 3 times , increase tariffs and duties across board and unnecessarily extort organizations by slamming concocted figures on them then come back and say your tax has grown ...please convert that figure to dollars and compare with past tax frames to see the Buhari govt is just playing smart figures .... Well I commend the Fowler led tax body for fettingvmore Nigerians and organizations on the tax base .
