Emmanuel Okolo a Lagos based Doctor has appeared before Epe Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State after he allegedly slapped and flogged a nurse that works at his Hospital.

The 35-year-old doctor was arrested on June 20th after he slapped Dorcas Adeyera, 23, for admitting accident victim without his consent.

The police charged Okolo with a one-count charge of assault. Moses Oyekanmi the Police prosecutor told the court the accused committed at about 2 am, at Awoyaya Hospital in Ibeju-Lekki.

Okolo was said to have initially summoned Adeyera into his office and ordered her to kneel down. When she refused, the doctor was alleged to have dealt her several slaps and also flogged her with a belt.

The nurse, in her report to the medical director of the hospital, said she was humiliated by Okolo. “My Lord, the accused caused bodily injury to the complainant. .

He slapped her just because she worked for him. He should be punished for it,” prosecutor Oyekanmi said.
The offence contravenes Section 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. (Revised) .

After pleading not guilty, Magistrate O. A. Fowowe-Erusiafe admitted him to bail at N50,000. Fowowe-Erusiafe adjourned the case till August 19 for trial.

Why not refer the patient

Why assault the nurse

He's not the owner of the hospital ? Why was he angry to the extent of assaulting a female staff. Why tell your staff to kneel down. ( an adult )


Also why did the nurse admit a patient without the doctors input. What gave her such boldness?

Finally he shouldn't have assaulted her, just report to the owner of the hospital. Now he's up the creek without a paddle.

She should have informed the doctor first.

With my little experience I know that in critical conditions like this when I patient is brought.. The doctor consent to be taken first

Very good

It's only in Africa that Education doesn't mould a person, even one bit. Which is why you see a SAN, Medical Doctor, Professor, Eng. etc behaving like common criminal. The likes of them in various political positions, heading institutions.

When you look at the national assemblies, state house of assemblies, governors, executives, judiciaries, heads of universities, family heads, religious leaders, youth leaders, what you see mostly are educated illiterates, who are rascals and miscreants with bogus certificates yet not disciplined.

I also blame the collapsed family institutions for not instilling disciplines in children.

What a sad reality.

All these nurses who doesn't have respect for laid down procedures......

Her name speaks volume of her background......am not surprised.

That Doctor should be freed...who a catastrophic event the young doctor prevented.

He should be stripped off his License aswell.....

I have no idea how some guys feel that you can always raise your hands to pass a message or to stamp your authority. He’s a disgrace to that noble job. The judge should make him a scape goat for others.

nurses are gradually their right against bully doctors.....Young nurses will surely emerged and change the status quo
