It's only in Africa that Education doesn't mould a person, even one bit. Which is why you see a SAN, Medical Doctor, Professor, Eng. etc behaving like common criminal. The likes of them in various political positions, heading institutions.

When you look at the national assemblies, state house of assemblies, governors, executives, judiciaries, heads of universities, family heads, religious leaders, youth leaders, what you see mostly are educated illiterates, who are rascals and miscreants with bogus certificates yet not disciplined.

I also blame the collapsed family institutions for not instilling disciplines in children.

What a sad reality.

You need exposure .

Why must you slate Africa to make a point.

Doctors behave like criminals everywhere not just in Africa

In the UK within the last month we heard of doctor misconduct from the UK. There are countless examples of sexual misbehaviour, criminal prescribing and even murder. Ever heard of a doctor called Harold Shipman??
Education has little to do with morality.
Many of our greatgrandparents never went to any school and were not touts or thuugs

Social services in Nigeria is still in its infancy. I'm sure that in the coming years things like mandatory counseling and psychiatric assessment will be added to employee medicals.

She should have informed the doctor first.

With my little experience I know that in critical conditions like this when I patient is brought.. The doctor consent to be taken first

That is the rules it has been there for years.
It's even recently that govt amended the rule of getting doctors report before treating bullet wound or admitting a shot patient

I'm kinda confident that by the time all the facts are laid bare both parties would be found culpable in one way or the other. What we fail to see here are the silent but potent undercurrents that preceded the outburst of violence. Anyone who has ever had to work with nurses giving continuous insurbodinate and saucy attitude will have an idea what I'm talking about. The nurse had no business admitting the patient. It's not her duty to. Administer BLS to the extent you can while alerting the doctor on call for urgent review. That's her call of duty. What if the hospital was inequpped to handle the case in terms of specialized manpower or wherewithal? The delay in itself could spell doom for the patient. Most people never see it from that angle. The brunt of patient management outcome falls on the doctor ultimately. He takes as much glory if everything goes right as well as blame if it's the reverse. The bomb has gone off only because we also have a very arrogant and abusive individual in the garb of a doctor here. Professionally he simply should have just reported her to the Medical Director and threatened to resign if she's not dealt with provided he has his facts. Works 90% of the time all things being equal.
Since no-one has all the facts yet, it will be nice to see how this plays out eventually.

If you are not supporting him why do you need to explain that you are not supporting him?

Because the comment is either supporting him or it lacks sense.

There is a time and place for everything and this is not the time for such an irrelevant question.

The issue here is assault. So if she was your sister the first thing to ask is why she admitted a patient without informing him

Has he come out to make that claim and even if he did.She claimed she informed him.Did you read the story

Buhari ordered the IG to Nassarawa he did not go.Did Buhari flog him?

It isn't a case of "right now", Africans have behaved in an uncouth, unsophisticated manner towards their own children for centuries.

What you are seeing is the end result.

They are both adult professionals governed by ethics or rules. There is no place for assault no matter what.

No ifs, no buts no explanations.
With regard to the claim that she had no business admitting that is debatable

What is the definition of "admission"

When a patient is seen at A&E have they been "admitted"
First you say the facts are not available but you have concluded that she "admitted a patient" based on what?

Even if she admiited . Why does she have no business admitting based on the rules of that hospital or a WHO agreement that nurses cannot admit?

You say it is not her duty to admit ?? Again this needs clarification because this is the sort of nonsense I hear from Nigerian doctors.

There are many many World class hospitals where doctors have no gatekeeper function. Rather admission s controlled by a Bed Manager usually a senior Nurse. The best the doctor can do f they consider admission inappropriate is to discharge and then discuss at service improvement meetings not flogging the nurse

He is a bad example to the rest of us. He needs to be dealt with according to the law. As a doctor you have to maintain good professional conduct at all time. You don't even have a right to shout on a patient not to now talk of slapping any member of the health team. As a doctor, all other health workers must be respected as we need one another to make the health system work. That is why it's called a "team". Guess the doctor has some attitudinal/behavioural/temperamental issues ab initio.

This is a lacuna in the training of the NIGERIAN doctor and that iis why they are overrepresented in misconduct hearings in the UK and USA. This is a fact. Many intimidate nurses to sleep with them and so on.To be fair it is also an indictment of the quality of training that nurses get in Nigeria otherwise what would make a doctor so bold as to ask a nurse to kneel down.

For what he is alleged to have done ; in a place like the UK he will get convicted and lose his license to practise if not permanently for a long time and would require a series of retrainings and supervision.
