Saw this beautiful but kinda strange fruit alone on a Short tree in the bush when I visited my friends village, it was so tempting to give it a bite, but I wasn't sure if its a good idea.
Who knows the name and if its safe for consumption

up till now bro am searching, don't know the name. This stuff is not common I will not be surprised if it doesn't have an English name. I didn't know this stuff till 2016,since den I Neva see am

Is that a loquat
Can't say 4 sure.

Should be a loquat or Japanese plum. Indigenous to Far East Asia but can be grown in our climate too.

Its a good source of vitamin C. Its related to pears & apples. The one you posted looks a bit different but I think its a loquat.

It is called utu in my igbo area, Oru West, Imo State. There are several species

Utu is the Igbo name. It is edible

Utu, very sweet sharp taste. Loaded wit vit C.

I asked one small boy that passed by, he said there's another with smaller but much seeds and soft spike that is edible not this one

Thats obi edun, monkey kola, delicious and medicinal
