Blue3k:The big mistake obakpolor is making is for him to encourage the Federal govt to takeover this facility instead of seeing that it can be an engine for entrepreneurs and investors to use as a great opportunity to monetize naijas lucrative aviation industry. If they really want this facility to useful and survive, they should sell it to entrepreneurs and investors who will find out how to monetize it |

Its incredulous that d state and federal government were of d same party yet they couldn't collaborate to achieve success for such a monumental project. Oga Jona no try at all |

Dead on arrival because government is not structured to run businesses. Same issue with Tinapa. Don't be surprised that the individuals in government who initiated this project deliberately killed it so they could come back to buy it over from government at give away price. Nigerian politicians are not just evil but also wasteful. |

Imustreturn:No Akpabio did nothing, honestly it beats my imagination to read stuffs like this....Imagine Tue number of jobs this $100m would have created if it was used to build industries..... This will take lots of people off the streets.....in all my over 8 years on Nairaland, am yet to read where a certain Governor or Government gave verifiable statistics on the number of jobs added or created in their state..... What we need in this country is industries and of course enabling environment for private businesses to thrive....it is so shameful that the average Nigerian politician thinks building of roads is the ultimate campaign promise yet some gullible idiats still celebrate them, what nonsense.....I weep for this nation |

Rudderless leadership abound in Nigeria. Across board , they are as aimless as they can be. PDP was woeful. APC has set a new low of irredeemable woes. Something tells me the black man is perpetually jinxed and may never do as the occasion demands. Past and present leaders should be stoned with rotten eggs. They have failed abysmally. The followership has been nothing to write about. They sell their votes for 500 naira and end up electing orangutans as leaders. The Nigerian project is a charade after all. |

If the MRO was built in the North or in Lagos, maybe this federal government would've had interest in it. Lesson learned: 1). Governors should stop wasting money in fancy high-tech projects that have no real impact on the masses in their states. Nigeria is not developed, so stop wasting money on projects that have no demand. Which airplane owner would bring their plane to service in Akwa Ibom, anyway? 2). If your governor wants to build a project that costs $100mil, that project certainly would only benefit those in government who use the project as an avenue to steal. Expensive projects won't, I repeat, governors don't do it to benefit the masses. They do it to steal from it! 3). The most useful and beneficial projects DO NOT COST A LOT OF MONEY! |

You have to wonder if there ever was a feasibility study - that would have given them the insight into the usefulness of such a project, Duke did the same thing with Tinapa ---yet he wants to run for president. education does not equate to common sense --just ask the phd holder from bayelsa ---drunkard ex-president. |

This shows the level to which some leaders lack capacity to see the future of a state. Laughable men as governors! |

Imustreturn:If Emmanuel udom start continuing with the project Nigerian will start lambasting him that he has not initaeted any project of his own. Just as the case of project left by Jonathan and continued by buhari but Nigerian are accusing buhari of not initiating any project |

I pity all the clueless Nigerian youths blaming lack of maintenance culture or different political parties. This so-called $100m was a direct route to put money in the pockets of Akpabio and his cronies. A state government has NO business in building a project that only a viable private sector business should establish after doing their due diligence and business planning. How many people in Akwa Ibom state IF this project ever worked would benefit from such a STUPID WHITE ELEPHANT? $100m in soft loans for market women, carpenters, mechanics, farmers....channel the money through micro-finance banks. $100m on local and rural roads $100m in partnership with private sector to establish local electricity and power plants...NO NO NO instead our Governors want to build airports, 5 star hotels and other gradniose projects - and poor, employed youths that can never afford to use these project will be bragging to their mates in Lagos that 'my state has.....airport, my state has finest hotel, etc....rubbish!!!! |

Government has no business doing this. It should be a private venture. At most government can give free land, free tax for a number of years, etc |

Even fufu maintenance facility will rot away in Nigeria. Aircraft maintenance, sounds like 'NASA going to the sun project' in the ears of our leaders. |

FarahAideed:Perhaps because it is in Akwa Ibom. This is not the only laudable world class project that lies wasting in this state. There's a world class International Hospital with state of the art facilities that Akpabio spent billions to build, yet for some strange reasons, it now lies wasting while buhari and other top politicians choose to travel abroad for medical care. The one that annoys me the most is the Aluminum smelter company that lies wasting in my local government area. The facilities in the plant are all world class and the capacity of the plant is only second to none in the world except the Qatar Aluminum plant in the middle east. The power plant that also lie wasting inside the company has 6 giant turbines that can supply steady electricity to at least 3 states in the country, yet we are crying of power. The company can employ close to 1000 workers, yet we are crying of unemployment. Anyone that visits Akwa Ibom to see how things waste away will not fail to shed tears for this country. |
