The Milliken Hill road that was celebrated across the internet has started washing away, days after it was opened for use.
Obviously, the contractor did a very shoddy job.
This is why many roads in the South East are still bad.
Substandard contractors everywhere.

.... imo. The road does not worth its call. Too much propaganda. It shows that no proper soil test and EIA is conducted.
Our politicians must be held accountable for their actions. Later on, funds will be budgeted for its maintenance.

I tire.
IF YOU KNOW.. YOU KNOW!

I don't even know why they bothered rebuilding that colonial road. They should have built a modern dual carriageway linking those areas without having to make that dangerous journey on Milliken Hill.

spoilage do occur. Enugu is too hilly. The east is too sloppy. The solution is constantly repair it. As you said it's a hilly road. Vulnerable to erosions.

There has to be a rethink on the approach to road construction in the East given the very fragile soil of the area. Those in leadership in the East should begin to think of how to hire first class engineering firms to achieve durable number of roads, than having numerous roads constructed with low or medium quality materials.

A governor should take a look at the state budget; if he planned on constructing ten roads of medium quality materials, he should cut it down to five or even four roads and invite a world class engineering firm to do them. Government is a continuum, the next administration would continue from there.

If some of the colonial roads and bridges built by M.I Okpara could survive for fifty years and still counting, why shouldn't they be re-enacted even with new technologies.

That is Milken hill for you. If you lived in Enugu in the 70s and 80s, you will not be surprised about that.

Comprehensive stone pitching would have prevented this embarassment. I wonder how those heavy road construction machines didnt wreck havoc during construction.

Thanks for sharing this observation

From the pics, it seems the area has already been cordoned off.

Let's hope the contractor quickly rectifies this with proper stone pitching

I think it's in their Gene, they always have a thing with the word "Fake".
South East Governors should learn from other Governors in the other part of this Country. Where, the tax payers money is subjected to Construction of standard infrastructural projects that will stand the taste of time.
