Yes you can erase data and lock your phone.
Be sure you log in to the MI Cloud website with the account details in your phone. Tap find device... You'll see options for Wipe, tap on it.. and lock.

Thanks bro I used find my phone on Google to lock the phone but I don't know if it was successful. I later followed your instructions but it was saying they could not find my phone online. So it's either findmyphone stuff was successful or something.. Cos it shows the phone was on few hours after it was stolen. But since then it has not come online..till date..

na as if God wn catch me yesterday...my small nokia back up too yesterday o...i just off am normally,to on am come turn to wahala o..na later i notice say battery dn swell...so i can't receive or call since all phones are dead

Am serious too. I got the update also but don't see the need to install yet.
You can search on the MIUI forums to see what people are saying about the update. Yet to see anyone here who has updated to MIUI 9.6.4 for redmi 5 plus.
