Quality education is not cheap.

300k is fair enough provided students enjoy improved facilities

Everyone must not go to school, those who can't afford it should learn handwork.

Do the math bro, using your facts, 11b divided by 400k students is 27500 per student. Where then is the 300k subsidy? Now apart from these subventions, schools still generate funds from sundry fees including but not limited to tuition so Bro don't justify the unjustifiable.

Also you were talking about subsidy for amongst other things labs..... For real.... LABShuh Which labs are equipped?

You mentioned salaries..... Are salaries paid from subventions?

Power: How many institutions actually pay their utility bills?

How many hostels are in decent habitable shape and sanitary condition?

Bro get your head out your ass
Where did u see 400k in my post? bold it please.

Your argument is that developed countries pay heavily for university education which result in better university education for citizens.
1. My first question is that is our minimum wage the same as these countries?
No it isn't. Minimum wage in the USA is about $1500 monthly. Fees in the US on average are above $20000 for most universites annually ($3000 in state unis for students WHO are long term residents though).

2. In these countries students have access to loans, grants, scholarships which means so far you are a brilliant and hardworking students, you will surely be able to go to the university, but in Nigerian situation, our public primary schools are worse enough that it only takes God to make a brilliant children to still remain brilliant with classes where roofs are leaking, or no roofs, inadequate teachers, abused children, mentally disturbed teachers(teachers that's has not been paid for months will be mentally disturbed, might have depression, anxiety e.t.c) plus the fact that scholarship is only meant for people with connections too if there are any.
Most university students in the US and the UK fund their educaiton via loans...and those loans can be very very heavy. Plus, you pay them back. Scholarships and financial aid are partial, and dependent on academic perfomrmance.

And in countries that have free educaiton, the costs are borne from taxes , which can reach as high as 50% of your annual income.
And most Nigerian teachers do their jobs well, plus a good number of schools in the US for example are poorly resourced, poorly staffed, and inadequate.

3. At abroad, so far you are an hardworking person, you will be able to send your children to the university, but here in Nigeria, come to the the cities, villages and see hardworking people, sweating all day and nights but they are still poor. Because the Nigerian environment is not enabling
American salaries and wages have been stagnating for the last two decades. Plus people are losing jobs (one of the reasons why Trump won after all)>

4. At abroad, getting a job is not difficult, once they finish the university they are able to secure jobs to pay for their debts,in Nigeria after all the high payment, still there won't be any job, which makes it lost upon lost.
Hey there...itcan be diffiuclt there o. then there is getting the job, but not being able to get affordable accomodation (I know a Nigerian who works in New York and shares an apartment with four other people there. None of them can afford even a one bedroom flat for themselves. And the other four girls are white.)

My conclusion is that most people in developed countries who do not go to the university is due to the fact that they have no interest, or find something better to do,or they are lazy and couldn't find thier ways, but as a Nigerian, most parent won't mind to suffer to make sure their children attend the universities but truth is the suffering is not even available for them to do that will make them afford such unless they go into robbery,Yahoo, ritualsetc . With increments in school fees,we will only end up having kidnappers, yahoo boys, ritualist, bokoharams in the country
On the other hand, if we don't find a way to increase funding for education...to the tune of 1.5 trillion annually for university educaiton alone, and probably more for primary and secondary educaiton...on top of an economy dependent on oil prices that need to be above $140 per barrel for it to make sense economically for us...it is the poor kids that would gfraduate with poor degrees, and would lose out in the job markets to the rich kids from private universites, and foreign universites.

Maybe we should just take another loan.

Higher education is not cheap anywhere in the world

Nigeria must fix her vocational and technical schools

Higher education isn't made for everyone

Let's stop this madness

Go to serious countries in the world, their people hardly go beyond high school, including USA
What are you talking abouthuh Do you know the large number of people who don't even have the opportunity to see the four walls of a Uni in Nigeria, compared to the ones who are currently in it?
And they still want to make it hard for the few who're in it so that they'll dropout as well abi? I'm not even sure you know what quality education means.

How can students pay for 300k for that trash. Even if they want to increase the tuition, it should be gradually, not that someone would just wake up in the morning to hear that he's to pay double of what he use to.
Make them use government money improve the quality first, then people would know they're truely paying for quality education.

You guys should stop that rubbish talk that " education is not for everyone"... Most Nigerians are already illiterates. Make una leave the few wey dey try to learn.

And how much is the salary of their parents who are civil servants? shocked Soo 300,000 naira is fair - let me ask - are you the one going to make the payment for them? How did you arrive at the sum being a fair rate for university students? In your view, "university education is not meant for the poor, it is the preserve of the rich." So the children of the poor, should perpetually be condemned to a life of handwork and penury, isn't that how you think? shocked

Many of our elders, parents and grandparent's generation in the 50s, 60s & 70s, were children of farmers and commodity traders, but they enjoyed university education due to the low fees, scholarships and grants in place, during their own time. How many student loans, grants, scholarships etc exist in Nigeria today for those seeking university education? huh

Some of those making these asinine laws went to school, when annual tuition fees were like 10,000 naira per session. Only to turn round and inflict hardship on those coming after them. undecided The same govt that increased the fees, will squander billions on ill-conceived projects at the end of the day, instead of using it to improve the fortunes of the university. Please do not hit your keyboard to type nonsense, if you do not understand the dynamics at play.

Thank you for hitting the nail on da head, my brother. sad And the same govt making these silly laws to increase fees, has been squandering any money they get, on faulty ill-conceived projects and political gallivanting, all over the place. And they will continue to do so. Instead of them to reduce their wasteful expenditure and pump it into education, dem no go gree. Only the children of the masses will be taxed further, and compelled to pay more fees to support their excesses. undecided

You're foolish beyond belief! So, you think quality education is directly related to the amount the citizens pay to acquire it? What then is the primary duties of government if not to provide basic health care, quality education & social amenities. You're the foo.lish one here if you don't know.

.....and to u, u believe that made sense cos they were unable to go beyond high school, what happens to such group of people? They will become terror to d society even to the ones who had higher n quality education cos they can't get a tangible source of income with such certificate. Have u checked out their crime rate n do a background checkup on the set of people that commits such? Or is it after paying so huge amount of money only for the person to graduate n be jobless. Meanwhile those management probably had free n quality education during their time. That is pure madness cos at d end of is still d same poo, finish from school n be jobless. I kept telling my friends that if I knew I would end up venturing into biz I wouldn't v wasted my money n time in d university that probably doesn't guarantee a brighter future. Maybe by now I would v bn controlling millions, we need to start thinking outside d box abeg. The educational system is so bleeped up abeg.

Wow! That's nice. I just googled the school and I'm seeing that it has two Campuses. One at somewhere called Bosso and The other at Gidan Kwanu. Why are you guys separated?

Is one of the campus bad that's why they separated them from the rest? Are students allowed to enter both campuses?

I'm sorry for these questions, my younger one has been thinking of a technology school to attend, maybe I can suggest futminna after I have enough information about it. Thanks

I know how this trend works in universities

1. Increase fee to 300k
2. Students go on strike
3. They reach a compromise of 200k or 250k
4. Threaten students to resume back to school.
5. For Uniben, they implemented the increase from the 100level students while the staylite pay their usual fee till they graduate. grin

Students are allowed to enter both campuses...
Bossing is the former campus but because it couldn't contain the rapid growth of the school that's the reason we have gidan kwano campus which happens to be the main campus now...
Bossing campus has up to 4 schools while Gidan kwano had 6schools.
