whoa! Is that how small Canada's economy is ? Its way easier entering canada legitimately than the US hence my reason for relocating there. Maybe after settling sufficiently one may consider the Us. But with the 'rate' of gun violence in the US its becoming a scary place for me,personally.
Thanks for the heads-up tho.

Don’t be fooled , Canada has gun violence issues as well, may be not as bad as the US

Im not in the IT industry, Im in healthcare. Im the opposite of you, I hate computers. I only talked to my uncle to confirm some things that were said here. That being said, the skills you mentioned, will only help you. Continue to build upon them. As someone else mentioned, IT and Health care are the major industries of growth here.
Yes, US and Canada are very comparable. But as far as I know, the US is more strict on medical licenses.
Hell NO
Get medical license much easy in U S than Canada
Canada is hell

sure I agree, that why I mentioned ''rate'' as I remeber some weeks ago an immigrant shot and killed an 18 year old woman and a younger girl in Toronto or so.
From another point of view, the gun violence in Nigeria dwarfs that of the US and Canada combined these day, if deaths by police brutality, kidnappings, and insurgency is anything to go by.

Nigerians in the US like to encourage people coming into the country to go for nursing because they feel like it's an easy field to get into and you will make alot of money from it . I even read a post on this forum that stated that nurses make no less than $30 per hour in the US which is not true. Some registered nurses can make low as $19 per hour so all I'm advising is that you look at different fields.

Same here. I have seen a lot of exaggerated numbers all over the place here. I am in IT (application development) myself, and have been for a very long time just like you. While there is money in IT, it will not be handed to anyone. You have to work for it and prove you are worth what you are being paid. And believe me, you will be challenged! $700k salary, for real. Common my people! That has to be a joke. In some expensive to live markets, $300k is attainable. Also, I saw mention of $19/hr for a nurse. May be an LPN, But definitely Morgan RN. My wife is an RN and has been for donkey years! That $19 number is barely more than the minimum wage in some places.

So my people, do your research. You have all the tools you need at your fingertips. A lot of the salary numbers quoted here are certainly NOT true at all.

@Originalsy, NY or any DC friends here

Is this true? $19 an hour is barely minimum wage?
I mean US federal minimum wage is $7.25 or $7.50 per hour. I know that California was trying to get the wage up to $10 or $12. There are millions of Americans who would love the chance to make $19/hr. I could be wrong here, but unless you are living above your means, high rents, car payment, going out to eat for most of your meals, keeping the mall open, $19 an hour is doable. Im exempting, supporting a family on one income.
I would like to hear from people who are not making 6 figure incomes.

You say others are extraggerating but it seems like you are . I’m a nurse so I’m aware of the nursing rates . That $19 per hour is not the norm but there are some RN getting paid that . Like I said most are getting paid $20’s -$30’s per hour and thats forRN.

I was with him until the $19 is minimum wage comment. There is only one federal recognized minimum wage and that is $7 and some change. And people are having to make ends meet with that in places like New York and DC. Any dollar range even when you are at the top can not feel like enough if you are living above your means.

Well it’s does vary accross states , in my state it’s around $9 per hour and some counties in the state formed it’s own minimum wage where it’s $10 per hour.

oh yeah, I know that. That's why I said federal recognized minimum wage. But minimum wage nowhere is $19.

Anyway, as a RN is it true that new RNS start off at 3rd shift and get stuck at places like critical care? Would you say that there is a high turnover rate because of this? I had heard that there is a very high turnover rate in the RN sector because of being burnt out. Also, can you practice as a RN just out of school? Im asking how long do you have until you have to take your boards? There was a lady, born American citizen who worked with me in my facility as a medical assistant, went back to school as a RN but never left. We couldnt figure out why you would go through all that and not ever leave.

No the Rn in general do not get stuck in third shift or in critical care. The general hours for bedside hospital nursing is 7am-7pm and 7pm - 7am , but there are variations. Top place to work is critical care for new graduates nurses. A new nurse can work anywhere that accepts new graduate nurses. In order to work as a RN you after finishing from school, you need to get a state license, which requires passing the nlcex( the boards), in the addition to meeting the state requirement. Some people may have great difficulty passing the boards, some states have limits on how many times you can take the boards and may require you to take a refresher course after a certain amount. Some people may not be able to pass the background check. There is a high turn rate in nursing which is due to many reasons, people get burn out due to low wages, being over worked, some facilities are very understaffed, unrealistic demands from management and patients etc. Another big thing is liability as well. Also this job is not the most glamaourous, you have exposure to blood pathogens, urine, feces and contagious diseases. Who really knows if your work mate ever started the nursing program or actually finished. I found quite a few people lying that they're in nursing school or actual nurses.

There is the Federal Minimum Wage...that is nationwide. ...but wages can be above. How much above depends on cost of living in the location. I'm in New York City in New York State.. (Lagos, Lagos State)...New York City minimum wage is $13.50..... but outside NYC ..other places in NYS...it is $11.75.
On RN earning $19/hr....I wouldn't doubt before knowing location.Mississippi. ..Tennessee. ..Kansas....it can very well be since some States have a veryyyy low cost of living and many workers there are really paid federal minimum wage or just above so the RN there at $19hr can be living larger than one in NYC $35 hr. But I know $19hr for LPN let alone RN is not happening in NYC.

Nursing manager is different position, any decent paying job can gather your a lot of money in your words if you work a lot of hours. A nursing manager position is totally different than bedside nursing. Make you sure you google pay for the average bedside nurse and it vary across states. Please Nigerians, when you come to this country make sure you shine your eyes well and don't take everything at face value. When your offered pay, see what you actually doing compared to the pay. Sometimes that high paying appearing salaries may end actually being low when you factor the actual work. Nursing involves human life, I'm sure you don't want a nurse taking care of you or family, whose worked too many hours and can not properly focus because of fatigue. Mistakes in nursing can cost somebody their life. As you learn in life, you want to work smarter, not harder.

Thank you for explaining about wages and it's variations to theses people. That $19 per hours, is for someone in those states you mentioned like Tennessee. Of course its not happening in NYC or California, everything is relative to the cost of living in that state. In NYC , CNA can earn $19 per hour, so I don't expect an RN to earn that

I think you guys get my drift. I may have misspoken regarding the $19 minimum wage comparison. However, RN's definitely make more than that here in Chicago. But the bottom line is the IT salaries of $700k and stuff quoted here is definitely not correct. As I mentioned I have been a consultant in this field for a long time. There is no need to believe anything we write here guys. All the info you need is out there.

Its ok. Ive done it too. I think we all have learned that everyone is responsible for themselves in getting the right information.
Being in IT for a long time are you seeing a shift towards AI (ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE)? And if so what areas are you seeing that the most now? Suppposedly that is the next thing on the horizon.

In my state and major city in my state it is $7.25. Doesnt get worse than that. With the cost of living being high in NYC, what should a person aim for making in order to live comfortably there? Not extravagantly but just an everday person.
